Give it a couple of days, or try restarting both watch and iPhone and then give it a couple of days. After updates I think the watch and the iPhone talk a lot more in the background than usual. Once all the apps are up to date things settle down.

This has happened to me with previous updates, and it's happening today as well. I updated my First-Gen 38mm AW last night. I wear my watch to bed to monitor my sleep (with the Pillow app), so I usually charge it up to 100% before I go to sleep, and then I put it back when I get in bed at 10:30 or 11. I usually still have 25-35% battery left before I charge it (maybe down into the teens if if I record a workout). Today I am down to 5% after having it on since 11pm last night. I recorded one 45-minute workout.

Ok, so it's the Workout app that's the culprit. I went from 6:30am to 4pm, and my Gen 1 was at 50%. After a 45 min cardio workout I was at 14%.

This update killed my battery if I use my watch for workouts.

I hope they bring back the lock option. I hate that they removed it in 3.1.3. I don't understand why this feature couldn't have been left on the watchOS. Also noticing battery drain.... Maybe if enough of us complain about these things, they'll bring them back... http://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html

Excellent point, if issues are not reported to Apple, they can't be repaired. Also another issue that seems to be plugging the Series 2, is random re-boots without cause.

Thanks.. Hopefully if enough people will complain, they'll bring it back.. Who knows with them though.. Or why the even did it. The battery life is pretty bad on my watch as well. I charged it to 100% last night and took it off the charged before I went to sleep. I haven't put it on my wrist yet today and it's already at 75%

Do you use an app on your iPhone like Human that track movement independently? If so, that could be the culprit. That information is read by Health, which then is read by your watch. Maybe you have an app that is sharing additional tracking that is adding to what you're already doing in addition to your Apple Watch. I have Human on my iPhone and after I go in that app, I can have a sky high workout number since it seems to track simply walking. As a workout rather than the Apple Watch which takes into account heart rate and other things before it actually gives you credit. Hope this helps.
It seems to have worked itself out overnight. Alll back to normal but thanks!

I don't know if it's just the Workout app. I'm sorry to report that I'm still having faster battery drain compared to before this update. Even on days when I don't record a workout it seems like the battery drains significantly faster. It will still last the full day if it's at 100% when I start my day. My old routine of charge it the night before while putting the kids to bed doesn't work anymore. I used to charge it up to 100% between 8 to 10 pm. Then I would wear it overnight for sleep tracking, wear it all day to work, record a one hour workout, and by 8pm I would put it on the charger with around 10 - 20% battery left. Now if I follow that routine the battery will be dead by about 5:00pm. As long as I top it off in the morning while I get ready for work it will hold out.

I would also add that I updated a lot of apps recently. Any one of them could be contributing. Perhaps Apple is allowing more frequent updates for apps? I've experienced similar issues with my iOS app updates. The OS update usually isn't the problem... it's the updates for apps designed to run on the newer hardware that cause the most trouble. Maybe I will remove some of the apps I don't use or need as much and see if battery life improves. I bet it's one of the apps I really depend on though. Wish you could monitor individual app usage like you can on the iPhone.

UPDATE 2/15/17: Some of my frequently used apps came out with new updates last week, so I installed those and I also removed some apps I no longer use. Since then my battery usage seems to have returned to normal. Even during a workout it seems to drain less than before, so I think a particular app was causing the problem.

Some of these third-party applications are not fully optimized for the Apple Watch. They run very jittery and laggy when in use. It doesn't matter if it's the first generation or second generation Apple Watch, it's the way the developers are designing these applications that are not fully running properly on the Apple Watch. They could be causing some of the issues with the drainage.

Having the same issue with the battery life. Own a SS 38mm Series 0. Had it on 3.0 all this time up until a few days ago when I decided to try installing 3.1.3. Huge mistake. I had absolutely NO problems with 3.0. I could start the day at 6AM end the day around 11PM with 30-40% without fail. This update kills my battery by 9PM. This is after rebooting both the phone and watch and repairing. Also the dark sky complication no longer works, and I relied on that app quite a bit. It's unfortunate how time and time again, one update can totally destroy a perfectly functional but aging Apple product. When will I ever learn. I'm having flashbacks from when I accidentally updated my 4S to iOS8! :(

Unfortunately, I think there are too many variables with these software updates. It's hard to say where and how they will benefit or overall degrade the Apple Watch. But If there are issues, report them to Apple.

Well, I updated yesterday evening, and something seems to be wrong with my activities app. today. It reported 10 stands by 10 A.M. It never happened this way before, and since I'm 86 years-old, it's should be obvious how unlikely it is. I'll restart the watch and see if this happens again tomorrow.

I wear my Watch when sleeping, but have noticed that I am getting up to six hours stand credit while I am in bed. Wondered if any one else was experiencing that issue....

What do you average for sleep? Do you get up at all?

I think you're right. I removed a few apps I no longer use and updated some others that I do frequently use (the updates had recently posted). Since then (about 4 days ago) my battery usage seems to have returned to normal... or at least much improved. Since I removed or updated many apps at the same time, I can't isolate the issue to a particular app. My battery usage during workouts has also improved.

Excellent. Glad it worked for you.
