As I posted on other Mac Rumours threads, the KPs with the Duet are totally gone now. Have not had one since the Apogee update was released (which included both an Apogee Driver and a new Apple Firewire Driver). Others have reported that the new Apple driver was included with 10.5.3.

I have a macbook pro with 4GB ram, 10.5.3, recent firmware update, and an Edirol FA101 interface, still does the kernel panic thing on connect if the machine is on, or after wake from sleep.

it's annoying. very annoying.

Use reputable hardware vendors.

Folks,

You managed to get Mac Pro and the best you can do is to plug in a cheapo audio interface? Ouch!!!
I bought used MOTU 828MKII few years ago - zero problems on Tiger, Leopard & Windows, period. Not to mention its phenomenal performance all the way to 96/24 with smallest IO buffer (32 in LogicPro). It is not that expensive, but once you get your hands on any MOTU - you would not want anything else...
I also have E-MU 0404USB ($199)- no any issue on Tiger and Leopard, not as fast as MOTU on Mac (probably as fast as FW discussed here), but on PC it will leave in dust most of the lower-end FW ($300-$500) like Echo, Edirol, Firebox, M-Audio and etc.

BTW, poorly written 3rd party device drivers (sometimes a device firmware) are source of 99% of KP. Being there, done this - one little typo or error and kiss goodbye.

Just get stuff that works, if you can...

i have echo audiofire8. ive worked with emu0404 and i cant say it leaves dust on my echo. i bought firewire because there is really nothing in the lower range on PCIe.

i dont know tho, why i can achieve 32buffersize with "Mac" as clock source, and not with echo as clocksource.
on 128 they work the same.

I hope you're not calling the FA101 a cheapo audio interface?!@#

I use the FA101 ($400) and UA25 ($230)

Both work great, but the FA101 specifically warns you NOT to plug or unplug it during computer operation in the manual. I don't think this issue is attributable to Mac, but F/W interfaces in general.

BTW, the FA101, used correctly in my production room, is rock solid and an invaluable piece of gear...both in house and mobile.

I just got an 08 MP 8 core and was alarmed to hear of the potential for Lucent/Agere FW chips to be in there instead of TI. True for all 08's? & is FW PCIe a solid remedy ?

I need to run an Apogee FW Ensemble audio interface on the 08 MP.
