When your "modern" OS redesign causes instrumental people to leave...

...you know it's been FUBAR'd.

Enough said.

You know why he decided to retire? What a completely uninformed comment.

This would never have been allowed to happen under Steve.

Steve would have forced this man to work for the rest of his life? Nobody in leadership positions ever left Apple to seek employment elsewhere or to retire when Steve was at the helm?

You mean like Jon Rubenstein, Avie Tevanian, Sina Tammadon, Tony Fadell, Bertrand Serlet and Ron Johnson? They all left on Jobs watch.

I noticed on Apple's org chart here http://www.theofficialboard.com/org-chart/apple that Stephen Zadesky (mechanical engineer/product VP) now reports to Jony Ive. I believe he used to report to Bob Mansfield. This 9to5Mac story says wireless teams who were under Mansfield are now back under Federighi. Seems like Dan Riccio's responsibilities aren't as broad as Mansfield's were.

I think your comment is a sarcastic jab but I'll continue anyway.

Avie Tevanian, original developer of the kernel Mach in the 1980's, hand picked by Steve to NeXT in the 1990s, chief architect of NeXT and OSX until he left Apple while serving as Senior Vice President on amicable terms in 2006. Last seen in the latest keynote, alongside…

Bertrand Serlet, came from XeroxPARC to NeXT to Apple with Steve where he severed as Senior Vice President of Software, until he left on amicable terms in March 2011.

These two instrumental high level executives with extremely important positions, and a tremendous track record left Apple when Steve Jobs were at the helm.

Thank you SO MUCH for the final gift of the abomination that is iOS7. Be careful not to let the door hit your bum on the way out.

Here in Belgium we retire between 50 and 65, this is definitely not an early retirement. :D

'Retire between 50 and 65' '? That's also a way of naming a state of permanent age related unemployment, lol.

Back to subject, I guess Mr. Lamiraux has cashed in big time on his option plan(s) and will now be enjoying the remainder of his life on the golf course or a nice home in the Mediterranean.

I'd say after 23 years he deserves retirement. 23 years is a long time to be with one company.

LOL, I wish that was the case. I''m 42 and have been with the same company for 21 years. If could retire in 2 years......

Unfortunately I have another 15-20 to go....:(

Longtime mac and ios user here...

Ios7 sucks big time. 7.0.3 and still so many bugs. If key people are leaving, this is bad for apple. Time to sell ur stocks.

How do you equate retirement with somebody leaving because the OS is supposedly Fubar'd? The strange part here is that most of us see iOS 7 as the best release yet. If anything staying around until the OS is out the door and in customer hands says a lot about the guy as he say the process through to completion.

There is no indication here, even with liberal reading between the lines, that the retirement was anything but of his own choosing.

So what is the BS about iOS 7 that makes you believe it is some sort of abomination. I only ask because I sit here right now with my iPad 3 enjoying iOS7 big time. Even on what is relatively old hardware it performs well and has features that I find to be very useful. I just don't see a reason to trash it in this way at all.

Apple is a big company with many resources to draw from internally. If they have to go outside it is no big deal considering people practically line up at the door for Jobs at Apple. Retirements are something that corporations have to learn to deal with because the reality is corporations often outlive the people that built them.

As for bugs in iOS 7.0.3, if you have found some and are sure they are bugs I do hope you have reported the bugs to Apple. Honestly though iOS 7 is remarkably bug free considering how heavily it has been updated. The same can be said for Mavericks too. That doesn't mean bugs don't exist in these releases just that you have to consider how much has changed or been updated.

Personally I like both Mavericks and iOS 7. In each case they got a hell of a lot more right than they got wrong. Better to dwell on the positive than the negative.

He didn't retire because of iOS 7. You can't assume that. If anything, he wanted to stay around long enough to be able to work on it.

Does this mean we'll finally stop being treated like stupid little children and allowed to delete useless apps like Compass and Newstand from our phones?

Really hate iOS 7. I got iPhone 5 and Apple is consuming more than 3GB Of my storage by automatically downloading iOS 7 which I will never update.

I'm happy with my iOS6

I feel bad for you for having to get an android phone.

Because either you'll get used the iOS 7 look or go the android route.

Exactly... And it is not like this guy was in senior leadership. While I am sure his contributions were impressive and important, it is not like Ive or Federighi leaving. Some people in the forums think that any change is a recipe for disaster or a sure sign that Apple is doomed. I wonder how they sleep at night!
