I guess they are not using pure elephant ivory recycled from used domino's for the keyboards now. GOOD!

I can't wait to get rid of this loud-ass computer. My wife has been going crazy listening to me type for nearly a year now. I hate hate hate this machine.

My old 2012 unit is still there - I really still miss it - but of course I wouldn't "downgrade" - but sheesh - what a nightmare this keyboard is. I just ordered the new one and the keyboard I hope is quiet.
You might consider tossing a $15 el-cheapo but breadcrumb-resistant external BT keyboard with you all the time to supplete your 7+ grand MBP.
It may stick slightly out of your 7 pound dongle bag, though.
Joni-style portability - my god, makes me wonder if those clowns ever travel around with their own gear...

Don't forget the same display resolution as the 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2012 Retina models (2560x1600 for the 13" and 2880x1800 for the 15").

It's sad to have to use a non-native resolution for more screen space on a $2,399+ Mac.

Agreed. I run my 2015 at 1920x1200, and it's sad that they can't double that with an updated Retina display. Does anyone really run 1440x900 on these things?

It's quite better than I expected for the 13" (and my guess is the folks who were complaining about the 15" got an even better upgrade).

In summary:
- Quad-core (vs dual core)
- True Tone
- Faster SSD (T2 chip)
- 20% increase in battery watt-hour capacity (& same weight)
- faster graphics (128MB of eDRAM vs 64MB)

Will likely wait for prices to drop a bit and upgrade my 2016 MBP (original butterfly, no problems so far ). My "old" MBP will be handed down to my son who is heading for college and still uses my old MBAir. He will enjoy the Retina display

The 13” upgrade is quite nice. I may try to order it for my wife versus an upcoming MacBook.

It’s not much, but I receive a 7% discount through my firm. It’s effectively a mini sale.

iPad at $329

Also, they aren’t a charity or something, they are a for profit company, and their profit source isn’t selling user data piece by piece to advertisers.

It's not like those of us complaining about price lack the basic understanding of how a business works...

Not every complaint about price is some expectation that the precious Apple give us **** for free. It's pretty simple. The old 13" MBP used to start around $1300, now it starts at $1800 for a current model. The old 15" started at $2000 (mine cost that in 2015). An equivalent model costs $2400. There's been a huge markup on these models compared to Apple's own pricing of the past for what many view as less functionality and usability.

A little off-topic, but I'm betting that Apple's keyboard woes are intentional training of us in advance of transition to touchscreen keyboard.

(Not claiming originality on this idea, only that it makes the Touch Bar make much more sense. It will one day takeover the whole keyboard.)

And the whining continues. Apple gave you EXACTLY what you kept asking for and you just don’t let up. Since 2016 it’s all been about 32g RAM and how the computer wasn’t fast enough. They’ve done it but of course it’s still not good enough for you. Then of course there’s the shock of the price. It shouldn’t be a surprise because realistically, you would be stupid and moronic to think that Apple would be dropping prices.

The 13" laptop still starts at $1,300, they just didn't update that one today (which I assume means they have other plans for the entry level 13" laptop).

When is Apple going to release something people can actually afford?

I assume Tim wanted to build a machine that only he can afford - not his fellow Board members.
(to conclude that it doesn't sell very well, so he can kill off the Mac that he hates so much)

Nope. They didn't. But that only vindicates my recent ThinkPad purchase, so I guess it's OK for me. Still sucks for those that were hoping they'd actually fix the keyboard and remove the touchbar (or at least make it optional).

Could anyone tell me if I can upgrade the RAM and/or SDD of a 15inch macbook pro AFTER being purchased? like, in an official Apple way (?)

If the non-official (user based) upgrade is possible I would like to know too.

Anybody? Please = )

I have a 2016 MBP and feel no need to upgrade to a faster model. As long as the keyboard works I'm really happy with my MBP. I just hope, in case I'll need a repair, I'll get the new quieter keyboard.
I love True Tone on my iPhone 8+ but is not a compelling reason to upgrade to a new Mac, not yet.

I don't think so. RAM is soldered, you'd need to replace the entire logic board.

People want what they can't have. They couldn't have it before because it didn't exist. They can't have it now because they can't afford it. And they won't have it in the future, because by that time it will be 'obsolete'.

Key takeaway is it’s still over priced garbage. The cpu update is nice and they are using ddr4 ram finally which has been the standard the last few years but the touch bar is still useless, the GPU is just the same chip from 2016 rebranded for the 3rd time and still only has 4gb of vram so there’s is nothing about this refresh that makes this over priced hunk of garbage any more worth the value Apple thinks it’s worth... It’s sad watching apple fall as hard as they have, they used to be the leaders of revolution and vision of the future now they have nothing fresh while everyone around them gets better and advances they just stay the same and charge more for it.
