Well if they use lots of guest speakers like at WWDC, 2 hours really isn't much split between them all.

I hope he uses a lot of guest speakers. The stock market likes that. It results in the "company" grooming others for future "face time" just in case anything happens to Steve, of if they simply want to make the face of Apple something other than exclusively Steve Jobs.

I felt the best speaker at WWDC was the guy who previewed Time Machine. I would consider him a candidate to take more face time from Steve in the future.

Rocketman

Blasphemy!

When you say early ...do you mean crazy 3 a.m. early ..or say somewhat sane 6-6:30 a.m. ...or late early like 7:30?

Thanks for the advice! :)

I don't think "before the crack of dawn" early is required, unless you really want to sit up front. What I would not do is show up at 8:30 and expect to get a seat. Probably 7:30 is early enough. As a matter of disclosure, I've never stood in this line personally but it seems the crowd had always been well-established when I would show up for the much shorter media queue around 8:00.

If you really start breaking everything down 2hrs is not much. With Leopard coming if its previewed there are a lot of "hidden" features that they have to show off, they have to talk about iPod and iTunes and blah blah stats. Some guest speakers, get our pants in a knot show off iTV and all its wonders and actually tell us what it does that will take MORE time, than show us iWork (if it comes out) and if that new program even MORE time, and than be like "one more thing" and show us the iPod which will take even more time! And inbetween the one more thing they will go back over ipod/itunes stats plus guest speakers... pshhh.. my fingers are tired just typing it!

1. Apple Stats includes iTunes
2. Leopard
3. Guest Speaker saying how its awesome, maybe sony for blu-ray technology...
4. iTV and all wonders
5. iWork..
6. iPod

So really only four new things.. 2 hours is actually not that long, I was hoping for a new computer or two and that doesnt even allow for the infamous iPhone or much room for anything else.. :(

He'll need the extra time to wait for the ovations to fade after he announces a new incarnation of .Mac that doesn't suck and changes the name that doesn't make grammar checkers puke (and sound like a riff on .NET).

For the record, when .Mac was introduced, Steve said something about the name being a riff on .NET. So, umm, that's intentional. Kinda silly, since .Mac and .NET have little or no comparable points (even at the time they didn't; I recall thinking that it was an odd comparison when he said it), but it's intentional.

Btw, that picture of Steve is kinda creepy. They don't have a better one?

It could be worse....

Would be great if somebody can capture the QuickTime broadcast on Monday and mirror it quickly on Google video, YouTube and others. I can usually never watch it for 2 days as Apple's servers are being hammered. This year it's likely to be worse than ever (ref: iTunes on Christmas Day).

I don't know - The video quality will likely be the same and their servers strengthen year on year.

What do you think is going into iLife '07? What more is there to do or demo? Sure there will be a bunch of new awesome features for it that we never would've imagined, but keep in mind that Steve managed to fit iLife AND all the intel stuff last year, and that was 1.5 hours.
I tend to agree... I'm not sure what else would take time to demonstrate. I'd like to see slideshows & movies entirely merge, and I'd like to see a differentiation between the interface and access to purchased movies & dvds versus created movies & dvds... but beyond that what's likely? More themes in iMovie?

Actually... I could see new ways of creating music playlists which integrate photos from iPhoto for your iTV listening/viewing pleasure.

Maybe he's going to announce his retirement and the extra time is for introducing his successor.

What you will see at MacWorld 2007

Macworld 2006 keynote was 1.5 hours long, with only 2 surprises... iMac Intel and MacBook Pro Intel, so if Macworld 2007 keynote is 2 hours long it must mean more then 2 major annoucements. Here is what I see happening:

Steve will start by talking about retail stores (showing the new Fifth Ave store) and how many people came in during the Holiday quarter. Then he will tell us how much revenue the stores made during that quarter. Steve will then say how much total revenue Apple has made during the year, because the CFO of Apple (Peter Oppenheimer) doesn't want to confuse any analyst who many be attending or watching. Steve will go on to talk about iPods and how well it's doing with market share, how many they sold durning the holidays and which car companies are now on board with iPod, he may even talk about Nike+iPod. DON'T EXPECT ANY iPod UPDATES. Steve will then talk about iTunes and how many downloads it has. We may see some more movie studios come on board and even the Beatles on iTunes. Then he will talk about iTV , give a demo and annouce that it will be shipping today or February. After the iTV Demo, Steve will say that the rest of the time will be spent on the Mac. He will then go into iLife '07 and give a demo of iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, Garageband and tell you about iDVD but no demo because of time. Then he will show us iWork '07 with new Keynote features and themes with updated charts and Pages plus a new application (maybe Charts) After iLife and iWork he will talk about Leopard and maybe show some new "Top Secret" apps since Vista is lauching for consumers on 1/30/07. I expect him to release Leopard at WWDC not at MacWorld. He will update Aperture. He will then announce some third party software from Adobe (Premiere and Photoshop) and Microsoft (Office) which will come out and demo their new products. Then Steve will talk about the iMac and Mac Mini and update both. I don't expect any updates on Laptops. Then the one more thing will be the iPhone (iChat Mobile) and Steve will talk about the years of development and partnerships and demo the product by doing a video chat with someone (Phil) then he will thank everyone at Apple who worked on the product and thank everyone for coming to MacWorld. So if you compare last year's updates with this year's you will see 2 additional products demos iTV and iChat Mobile, this is what will take the extra 1/2 hour. So to sum it up here is what you'll see.

1) Retail Updates
2) iPod / iTunes Sells
3) iTV
4) iLife/iWork
5) Leopard
6) Aperture 2
7) Adobe and Microsoft Updates
8) iMac update
9) Mac Mini update
10) iChat Mobile (iPhone)

That's Scott Forestall, Senior Vice President of “Platform Experience”.

Whatever that is.

Mac Mini Media Center

Re: Two hour Keynote

My addition for 'Mac World Guess & Tell' would be a 'Core' Mac Mini Media Center , and here is why.

For a number of years the term "media center" has been 'slipped into our brains' and Nobody, to date, has done anything 'big' about it..++= Steve's Keynote is slated for two hours.

Next year (2008) the United States will begin to catch up with Asian and European television resolution. ++= HD2+

Leading up to New Year's day 2007 there were massive sales on what I term as 'entry level wide screen televisions' at very 'low prices'. ++= Cheap 'wide screens'

Based on trends, I asked myself, "What would be perfect for the "Socneter"," (Social Networker) and a vision of "Media Center" appeared.

Here is what the vision provided: Dual or 'low end' quad core Mac Mini, equipped with wireless devices, sitting next to a 'wide screen' television, with an advanced form of "Apple Remote Desktop" sharing that would allow direct streaming of audio (iTunes, etc.), video (? iVideo), email, browsing, data and PPV movies from a desktop connected to the Internet, to the new Mac Mini connected to wide screen TV. Accessories will include a wireless keyboard, remote control, and mouse (mouse and remote may be built into keyboard).

At our house there are two computer rooms, a media room, and a building near the house has another computer room. A media center, as mentioned above, would allow me to carry a wireless keyboard to the media room, and do multiple computer task and other 'things' from ;-) a more comfortable chair.
