Couldn’t we already use Ai for text? What exactly is new? As far as I could tell you could ask Siri about the current document and so far I’m unimpressed with the implementation. I have unchecked “confirm ChatGPT requests” and yet it still asks me to confirm to send the document to ChatGPT, and also I need to chose the option to send screenshot or full document. Like why would I ever only want to send a screenshot if I’m asking siri about my document? Also there is no button to bring up a text box for this feature. You have to ask Siri over the microphone which is also annoying. Then the summary that I do end up getting gives me the option to open the ChatGPT app (why wouldn’t I just go there first?), as the dialogue doesn’t persist and vanishes before you can ever read the whole thing.

I use Pages and Keynotes all the time for presentations, I don't need advanced Word features for a simple talk I'm giving. It's also much clearer interface and more productive for me. I use Word for more advanced documents though, as well as Powerpoint when needing to share

Some of y'all Cray Cray! If Apple gave you a Mac Pro fully loaded with a ton of memory and storage with super most best graphics and a ton of the best games on the market or a MacBook Pro with similar specs all for free you would find a way to complain because they didn't offer to pay your electric bill when you use it. - SMH LOL
Yeah like if you don't like what they did for these 3 free apps, ask for your money back? Shivers people can be ingrates.

The iOS and iPadOS version upgrades are out and installed my on my iPhone and two iPads. No sign of the MacOS versions at 18:41 in Arizona on 12 DEC 2024.

I say that because the two Mc forums stated they were released many hours ago.......

Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian etc languages…
iTunes Store was released like back in 2010 in Estonia as far as I can recall, which is pretty late. I don't know the reason for it, but yeah, none of the Apple products support. There are more spoken languages in the EU that Apple does not support but Microsoft and Google do…
Apple supports Latvian, Estonian & Estonian according to their website. Maybe you need to install the language.
Go to Settings, then General > Language and Region > Other Languages

My phone shows:
lietuvių - - Lithuanian
latviešu - Latvian
Eesti - Estonian

So either we are talking at cross purposes, you need to update your phone, or I am being Gaslit? Unless you have another explanation?

Sigh, this is either terrible design or a bug.

For me, the new writing tools button is greyed out unless you select existing text. This is poor design because not all the functions require existing text.
Compose generates new text, or even complete document templates.

I've already wasted time with a friend and family member having to show them that they need to type some gibberish, select that, then choose a compose function.

Seriously Apple, this all feels rushed and not thought out.
Does anyone actually use this stuff?

It's just the keyboard, but the system itself is not in those languages… Yet Android and Windows are.
And by the way, the iOS keyboard doesn't even work in those languages. It even falsely autocorrects in Polish and in Finnish from time to time. And I am on iOS 18.2. And what you pointed out does turn apps like Tinder and instagram into those languages but not the whole OS.
Android and Windows and Linux are fully available in said languages.

Edit: Excuse me, there's Lithuanian now, but Estonian and Latvian are still missing let alone all the languages in India etc…

Rather than gimmicks like Apple Intelligence, I would love continued progress to acheieve some semblence of feature pariity with Powerpoint for Keynote.

Nobody serious uses Pages or Numbers anyway.
So, you may not know this, but there’s already an application out there with 100% feature parity with Powerpoint.

It’s called Powerpoint.

AI & Image Playground‌ in a spreadsheet? Can y’all fall back to an updated but retro Multiplan please ?

Hmm i do invoices with numbers. I really really hope "AI" won't "improve" them.

Of course, unless they can somehow get the customer to pay more than they agreed to...

Should be very useful to use writing tools on the Pages app. A very useful update to the key Apple apps.

Until brexit, Welsh and Scottish Gaelic.

Just adding, you get warned if you add either of those that they are NOT fully supported by macOS.

That’s not true. It’s all about licensing agreements. Again, it’s where the EU think they are better than everyone else, and they restrict international companies from competing in their market. So the people suffer for it. Apple would Love to be an equal player in the market, but the EU will not allow them.

Don’t blame Apple for an EU restriction.

What languages doesn’t Apple support in the EU?
I do not know which Author meant but there is number of services and features that are not available in many languages, usualy from small countries.
For me, there was hillarious situation that we did not have keyboard prediction for Czech language till now in iOS 18. We still do not have translation support. Of course Siri, I do not expect it even there was leak showing Siri in our language 10 years ago.
Other languages missing dictation also.

I do not hail for many EU restrictions as they are economically or politically motivated but some are not bad.

Apple is copy cat. Microsoft cram AI features so we have to do as well.
I do not think so. It is natural evolution of industry but I do not think Apple and MS feature set is comparable. Office can design whole documents for you, especially presentations, to look profesionally.

What do people speak in Estonia?

I opened a letter in Pages, that I had written in the past, and asked Apple Intelligence to make it "more professional" and I was really quite impressed by the result.
I have a considerable number of documents that I have been writing and updating for years. Add something here, delete something there, reword a bit, include some links, etc.

The style is towards formal/professional. (And I wish I could choose Friendly and Professional!)

I find that a huge amount is so familiar it is hard to actually read rather than just cast my eyes over without it really going in. And I often remember why I decided to word it one way rather than another. The Rewrite option has been quite helpful in some testing. Don't always agree and some of the wording is distinctly too USA for my liking, but it repeatedly picks up where the poor wording exists.
