i guess i thought for a second about everyone else having iphones soon ruining my street cred, but i was mostly kidding. i have an iphone because my phone and ipod both died the week they came out. it was convenient to buy one device over two, and hey, it makes me look cool ;).

Any brat that has mommy or daddy paying for their iPhone and monthly service plan instead of paying for it entirely themselves devalues it for everyone. Get a job you damn kids, and get a haircut!!! :D

First off, let me say that I'm not totally shallow, wanting to buy phones only for their aesthetic appeal and status. I am getting one for the progressive technical aspects of the Iphone 3G, and being that I'm about to graduate college, will need most of its features...:)

With that being said, I wanted to ask the semi-older crowd (20+) if the Iphone 3G will lose some of its appeal with you, being that the 199/299 price will draw the younger crowd (most, not all) that thinks having the Iphone makes you cool, so to speak. They don't know crap about the device and its features, they just know it has a touchscreen and its a cool device. Does this devalue the Iphone in your eyes, not wanting to be associated in your graduate school classes or business meetings as having a "kiddie phone"?

Again, no offense to the younger folks that actually buy things for their functionality.......

I'm 24...and I didn't want an iphone at first. infact, I avoided getting one right off the bat...for the sheer value they were introductory models. If you look at the price factor comparatively to cars (disreguarding the price difference of course)...certain vehicles are priced for teens to afford (or parents of teens to afford). Others, are priced higher with slightly more prestige, and after a few years the price drops into the range that is affordable for most everyone.

Being that I live in the USA...the economy crunch is a serious factor in a lot of the ways I spend my money. I have a phone that works perfectly fine...so, I'm not hurting to make a new purchase. But, apple has always done a fantastic job of hyping up their products...and mac followers have always done a fantastic job of hyping the products more, and making them more desirable for all ages.
(If I were 16-18...with a decent job, pulling in decent amounts of cash.....why couldn't I have one too?)

I understand the 'want' of a product from all age ranges. What kid doesn't dream of one day owning a corvette? Granted, some kids are extremely spoiled...and are always receiving things that some adults wish they could afford.
My husband's family has a great theory on this...
"It's okay to be spoiled, as long as you don't act spoiled."

These are great words to live by...don't let spoiled brats get the best of you. You will always appreciate the things you earn...I know I always have.

I know a few people in my school (I'm 15 by the way) that have iPhones. When I got mine, and people saw me using it, I felt like I was going to be robbed. :/ So I really don't care that many teens will be getting them now, but come to think of it, the plans are expensive too and the economy now is pretty bad and that might draw people away from the iPhone.

It's still tempting though.

I can't wait to get my 3G :D

Im 17 going into Grade 12...

for the 3G iPhone i just gotta have it..thats really why

i have the old iPhone unlocked on Rogers and now i want it with warrenty and basically "legally"

At my school, yes they are technically banned. A lot of people get away with using them though, mostly texting of course. Some teachers will just glare at you and make you put them away, but most of them take it away and send it to the office for you to pick up at the end of the day and you get a "point" on top of all that. Definitely worth the risk if you ask me, lol.

Just wait until they ask for my phone and I give them my new iPhone.......

I do have to ask...

Are phones banned at your schools?

Please tell me they are.

Nope. We can use them at breaks and during passing periods, but they need to be off during class. But nobody (at least at my school) follows that rule and lots of people, including me, text during class w/o getting caught. If you do get caught, it is up to the teacher whether or not to take your phone to the office and make you get it back at the end of the day or just give you a warning.

Looking back at college...it was just really annoying to sit during a test and watch a foreign exchange student whip out their "translator" and cheat. Finally the teachers caught on.

Please make your education a truly genuine one.
Don't get too caught up in the glamour of expensive toys so early in life.

It will definitely pay off one day.

Completely agreed! Adds a sense of adventure to using your phone and always fun to watch others get caught. LOL!

Ha, for sure! Plus, at the beginning of class it is super easy to whip out your phone when all the hullabaloo is going on for the first 4 minutes. Plenty time to send a few texts.

i usually get upset when i see younger teens/pre-teens/toddlers with expensive cell phones and things, but only because i also see many of these same families filing for bankruptcy and things, because they're spending an extravagant amount of money that they don't have. i'm not saying it is always that way, but it seems that a majority of the people i see are living that way.

note: i live in a relatively small town, so i typically know or at least know of most people.

good point...kind of like the more mustangs you see on the road, the fewer mustang carjacks you hear about. :)

At my school

They are only supposed to be used in the hallways and thats it

but most good teachers dont care if you use them in class.. (well they dont like you using them to talk with just text).

all of my teachers havent really cared..

i text/browse the web in class

Don't worry. I've been a straight A student in private school all my life, and I can honestly say that I've never cheated and don't plan on ever starting. Still, thanks for the advice.

Are you going to be getting an iPhone 3G on the 11th?

I can't use my iPhone at all in school. It doesn't mean I don't :D I can't tell you how many times they have taken mine away :p

Conceited much?

I just happen to be 19 years old, yet code Objective-C, Ruby, and extensive web codes... I also happen to be an iPhone Dev, and work on theiphoneproject.org... My advice, check what you say before hitting submit, it just makes you look like an ass.

It's funny, I bet myself and other "young people" could run circles around you and your technical features.

Relax dude. Its just a topic I created for the sense of conversation. Don't take it personal. If the type of person I described isn't you, don't worry about it. :D

Im 21, by the way...

Yea i understand though. I am a 17 year old and an upcoming senior in high school. As some might call me a kid I understand..But I am truly getting the iPhone for the developer program when i turn 18 next year. Be cause i do plan on doing some kind of work with apple after graduating college. So yea all though it is an impressive phone and I am going to be enjoying the cool features I am also going to be buying for a major investment......minus the outrages plans.......
