2009 was the advent of mobile games. Look at what fraction of time is spent on mobile games. It absolutely dwarfs the console and PC market combined.2009? No way.

That’s incorrect. I’m sorry but its just not a disputable fact that poor diets in schools and in the home are the leading contributor to obesity. Physical activity is part of it, but its lower on the list. When a parent is obese, many times the children are obese because of genetics and the poor diets that they pass down to their children. Coupled with the fact that an obese parent many times sees their child’s weight as healthy because they too are obese.
Its not like kids all of a sudden were born obese. This has been going on for years and years and while a small part of it is physical activity its not even close to being the main reason. Honestly its thinking that “hey go outside and play” will fix problems with obesity is one of the reasons that most people struggle with it so greatly. Its why people stop going to the gym. They exercise and exercise and exercise but don’t see results because they don’t do anything with their diet.
Yes, so they get the real name verification and play time data that weren't there before. Actually would have to be more than just name. How does this need more back doors? The new rules require real name verification on online game accounts, which in practice would do away with the need for deeper monitoring to figure out who is and isn’t a child. The government probably also already has access to the play time data, given that players for years at this point.

Well, looks like kids got fat regardless throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s without much help from video games.Huh? Physical activity is ”not even close to the main reason”? It’s either No. 1 or No. 2. You get fat by eating too much or being too sedentary or a combination of the two.
I mean, your avatar looks cute…You are not born in China is kind of unfortunate imo.
This quote is what Chinese government promote and sponsor.

Thanks. I appreciate that.I mean, your avatar looks cute…
Not really, look at the numbers. But also, having grown up during that exact time period, I can tell you that only total nerds spent all day playing video games back then, and nearly 0 girls. Nowadays it's not uncommon for all kids of both genders to play like 4 hours a day. Now, yes. But kids were spending huge amounts of time playing video games long before 2009.
After reading a few comments, it seems that video gaming industry and video gaming market should be outlawed in China. Why reintroduce consoles? Why develop games? Why train game designers? Just ban all of them outright and those "graphics cards" would instead be distributed to countries that need them, or feed their new supercomputers.
They take the "ban" route cause it's a short route, not because it is the best one. Either way, wonder how this will pan out in the next stage. Can't wait to see the Chinese gaming market got slowly whittle down and eventually disappear as more restrictions on gaming is being introduced. Remember, they have a social credit system that will lower your score if you play "too many video games".

A lot of it is just that video games got better. Used to be too simple to replay a lot and too expensive to buy a lot.
Yes, and it increased most rapidly during a time when video games were too uncommon to blame. No, they didn’t. You just said the percentage was only 5% in 1980.
Huh? Physical activity is ”not even close to the main reason”? It’s either No. 1 or No. 2. You get fat by eating too much or being too sedentary or a combination of the two.
What if banning was a democratic decision? Because it probably is in China, and there are votings in China, but only by committee and representatives. So, only the elites of the society can vote, but they represent the people. You can apply to join though if you are the top student in a university or industry. No, no they shouldn’t. It’s none of government’s business how my kids spend their time. It’s horrible.
It’s not a new concept, actually it’s quite old, dating in various forms all the way to Ancient Greece. It’s called “democracy”. Look it up.
Yes, and it increased most rapidly during a time when video games were too uncommon to blame.
I’m sorry but its not. Yes physical activity is important, but it does absolutely nothing with a poor diet. You seem to be stuck in a thought that making kids go out and play is going to fix childhood obesity. It won’t. I’m not going to go in circles with on this because what I’m stating are facts. What you are stating is an opinoin that if we took gaming away from kids that childhood obesity would be solved. You are allowed to your opinion but its not rooted in any fact. The leading causes of childhood obesity are genetics and poor diet. Physical activity is on the list but its further down the line and no gaming laws would do anything to prevent it from happening.
You can take an obese child and keep his diet the same and take away gaming and send him or her outside to play and nothing will happen. You take that same child and feed him a healthy diet and he will lose weight doing nothing more than his daily routine because his body will be contantly burning calories. He will eventually hit a plague where he will have to incorporate physical exercise to continue to lose weight, but nothing happens until the diet is in place. Sorry, all indisputable facts that are not remotely debatable.
You can respond againg with your opinion and I’ll just state now ahead of time that I disagree and encourage you to read up on childhood obesity facts.
By your definition the Govt has a say in every single thing I do every day in my life because they are allowing me to do it because they’ve deemed it legal. If you feel that owend by the Govt then thats good by me. I don’t think of things as “Oooh I can do this because the Govt says its legal.” If you live that way all good, I just don’t think that way.
Probably is.You are not born in China is kind of unfortunate imo.
What if we make it not legal?I just cannot disagree with you any more here. The Govt should have zero way in what my children do in my home as long as its legal. They can do what they want in China, but as a free Country I won’t ever align with this. Its almost laughable to me that people agree with this type fo thing. But to each his own, just don’t ask me to agree with it because I won’t.
Real name verification in China involves binding your ID card number to the account in question I believe, making it the only account on the platform that you can have. Yes this would let them get more accurate data but it would also not really require back doors anymore to track playtime because each account is now clearly linked to a real person. Correct me if I’m missing something here.Yes, so they get the real name verification and play time data that weren't there before. Actually would have to be more than just name.
As much as I disagree with what the CCP is doing….this and the CSAM stuff with Apple is kind of showing how badly devices are screwing up kids and how dangerous these glowing screens are to them.
Add to that devices being babysitters for lazy parents. Every responsible parent I know limits screen time for their kids making this China gaming ban pointless. Having grown up in the golden age of gaming (1990s) and being addicted to video games we were all yelled at and kicked out of the house by our parents to go play outside. Back then we weren’t a tap away from porn….or using IAP to drain moms bank account.
Double add to that the amount of teen suicide is through the roof in recent years due to social media. Guess you know you’re getting older when you fear for how f-— the future might be for kids. However this time it might actually be the case. The social fabrics of society have been heavily frayed , especially in the last couple years for many many reasons.

They are also mandating facial recognition for restricting children’s ability to circumvent the system to play games unlimited.Real name verification in China involves binding your ID card number to the account in question I believe, making it the only account on the platform that you can have.
