Wheat Bread
Turkey, Ham
American Cheese
Miracle Whip

I'm easy...

However, when I'm feeling adventurous I do a BLTA, the A, being avocado.

Also, I think Wawa makes the best sandwich available at retail. I always hit up 1 or 2 of them for a Ciabatta melt when I'm headed to Atlantic City from D.C.

Smoked salmon, smoked muscles, watercress and a lemon dressing in a granary bap.

I ate that every day for a week when the delicatessen we live next to did it.

A Personal favourite is a classy take on peanut butter and jelly is a Mulberry jam and cashew nut butter sandwich, I discovered this last year upon making both the jam and cashewnut butter, it just seemed like a good idea to combine the,.

Nice thread! :)

OK, two favourite sandwiches.

The City of London is littered with small Italian sandwich shops, that will make up a sandwich for you while you're waiting.

I always used to buy the Chicken escalope ciabatta sandwich from Pavarotti's on Threadneedle street:
Whole breaded chicken escalope
Mushrooms
Cheddar cheese
Mayo
Salt & Pepper
Butter
All in fresh ciabatta bread, toasted. :)

Joint fave is Pret a Manger's 'Christmas Lunch' Turkey Sandwich
Turkey
Stuffing
Spinach
Cranberry sauce
Mayo
Crunchy onion bits
All on a malty slice of bread.

My sister and I are hooked on these, and for the last 5 or 6 years we've texted each other when we see the first one of the season appear. I could then quite happily eat them every day.
A few years back they swapped the Spinach out for Iceberg. Just didn't work - you need the slight sourness of the spinach to balance out the sweetness of the sauce. Luckily they corrected it the following year. The crispy onion bits are a fantastic final touch - giving it great 'mouth feel'. :D

+1

BTW, great thread.

After reading through and posting, I was hungry. So I went ahead and made a tuna fish sandwich, because that was the only thing I had in my pantry. I think I shall venture out tomorrow and pick up some good cheese and meat from Wegman's and just eat sandwiches all week.

No thread about killer sandwiches can go without a vote for the hamburger. The hamburger is the perfect canvas for building the most mouth-watering and satisfying explosion of flavors in your mouth. USDA Grade A beef, melted Wisconsin cheddar, crispy bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce and a bit of ketchup and mayo.

Hands down, a Pastrami Reuben is my favorite sandwich.

There's only a few places here in Houston where I can find them, but whenever I go home to NY for a visit, I have one every day!

And the Pastrami is so,so much better than the more popular Corned Beef Reuben.

When in New York for a couple of days recently for the first time, I wanted to get to a proper deli and have a humungous sandwich... but didn't get the chance. :(

Love all these replies so far, although not entirely sure about the banana and mustard.

Yeah, sounds a bit weird too. Although it depends on the mustard.
I'd never have though strawberry and black pepper sarnies would work, but they do.

My favourite sweet sarnie is a Peanut Butter, Banana and Honey one! MMMMmmmmmm!

A tragedy. No trip to NY is complete without going to a Deli, a pizza place, and a diner! Cheese fries from a diner in NY or NJ is worthy of it's own thread!

Didn't get a Sabrett's hotdog either, which I guess counts as a form of sandwich. All the more reason to return to do the town properly.

Question for peanut butter and jelly sandwich fans: Crunchy or smooth? And are we talking Welch's grape jelly? Over in the UK, raspberry works quite well.

Potbelly Chicken Salad Sandwich. Extra mayo, lettuce, tomato. Best thing ever.

In 2nd place: Al's Beef Italian Beef Sandwich. A Chicago classic. You have to get it dipped and with peppers.

I'm sure it's delicious, but it looks alarmingly like the sort of thing I'd flush.

My favorite of all time:

Bread
Mayo (optional, I prefer mine without)
Bacon
Tomato
Lettuce
Bread

Hehehehe. :)

Second favorite would actually have to be a combination of sandwich and soup:

Tomato Soup + Grilled Cheese Sammiches

Mmmmmmm...

Another one I like is a simple hummus sandwich. It's best made with freshly baked pita bread (I could live on this alone). Unfortunately, you'd be hard pressed to find a bakery in the states that makes them fresh daily. That is unless you live in an area like Chicago or Detroit. If no pita bread is available, I would substitute with french bread. My preferred brand for hummus is the Sabra brand, which could be found at any local Super Walmart. And for the finishing touch, slices kosher pickles. There is a certain type of pickles I would recommend but I don't know what they're called in English. They're thinner and sometimes longer than the traditional cucumber and they're pickled with red hot peppers . Mmmmm just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

My favorite at-home sandwich is a fried-egg, baloney and cheese on grilled wheat. Nummers!

There's a sandwich shop in Lancaster that I frequent, and they do goodies like this:
10-29-10_1245.jpg

This is the St. Val's -- pastrami, Italian sausage, meatballs and marinara sauce, with lettuce and olives.

Lately I've been more of a wrap man than a sandwich man - going with something like a whole grain wrap, romaine lettuce, chicken breast, tomatoes, avocado, and maybe salsa or cheese.

Otherwise, when I'm not feeling quite as healthy I like to do a grilled cheese sandwich with a tuscan bread, plenty of butter to make it nice and crispy, use shredded cheddar and some salami. Also throw some pickles and mustard on that and if I'm particularly cholesterol deprived I'll throw on a little bacon as well.

Damn it, I've got another hour before I can reasonably eat lunch...

Alright, I'll bite...(no pun?)

A BLT loaded with bacon, topped with a perfectly poached egg...delicious!!

A WaWa Gobbler... provolone cheese, cranberry sauce, turkey, gravy, stuffing...all on a sub...it's like thanksgiving...

Philly cheese steak from Pudges (local 'steak place outside of philly)...

wawa-gobbler.jpg

The all mighty, WaWa GOBBLER....:D
