I'm all for this. Maybe something wrong with my phone, but I often only have 1 bar, sometimes 2 in places I should be 3-5

Cool. How about some 5G chips so we can use the new iPhones/iPads for a few years?

No?

Ah okay. Well I won’t upgrade for some modified-PI antenna. Sorry

Anything that steps up reception is a welcome change.

For starters forget the case. Anything covering has got to be worse than not covered. Although it may be cheaper to produce, that could be the only reason really.. since LCP looks like it would stay around anyway.

Perhaps I'm NOT technical enough.

What exactly are the benefits ?

Performance means precisely what here ?

I'm assuming improved SNR, but I'm just guessing, I have NO real clue.

I’m with you.
Reading through the article, the only benefit is that it’s cheaper. Since Apple won’t change the price of the newer phones, that means more profits for Apple.
I mean, a very good reason for them to go that route but if there’s no benefit for the user, they won’t advertise the change… not that they do anyway for this kind of hardware changes.

i am an idiot, or is this paragraph just entirely inscrutable? all i see are acronyms pls help

Kuo believes that LCP limits the RF performance of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR antennas due to current technology limitations and production issues. This puts the RF performance of MPI material at least on par with LCP, despite MPI being easier and cheaper to produce.

What is MPI, Modified-Pi isn't clear enough, you do explain LCP (Liquid crystal polymer) though.

This seems to be a rehashing of an article published back in November, and it has a bit more detail:

Maybe MacRumours schedules these articles to go live on Sundays to keep up the hit count over the weekend.

Are you surrounded by a lot of metal, by chance? Metal roofing? Metal absorbs radio signals.

It’s gonna take lot to get me off my 2017 iPad Pro, it pretty much does everything I need. There are folks still happy with their iPad 2’s.

GPS Antenna
While my iPhone X locates over the street and a crossing - my Huawei Mate 20 Pro locates exactly in the room in the house where I am.
So a new dual-frequency GPS-Antenna would be a good step forward.

iPad Pro had its own bendgate issue with bent iPads in the box. Part of the reason I’m waiting until fall to get a new iPad Pro, assuming they fix it.

Have some been bent? Sure. But you can't judge things based on a forum. The masses of iPad buyers never visit MacRumors. Bending isn't a mass issue. I've bought three pros for personal/family use and multiple more for corporate use and none (as in zero) of them have any bending problems. We don't baby our pro's. They stay in Apples folio/folio keyboard or naked. Carried daily in a backpack or messenger bag. No issues with bending. I did receive one 12.9 that touchscreen issues and Apple replaced it no questions asked. Of course I live close to multiple Apple stores, if I get a bent one, I'd just exchange it. Don't miss out on a great device because of a forum or some youtube videos.

My question is: if this tech is better, cheaper, & easier to manufacture- why are they expected to switch back by early 2020, only using this for like 6-9 months? Seems fishy.

As far as I can tell ( And I could be very wrong ), Apple has always been using MPI prior to LCP, which is why I ask in my previous reply, why is MPI New Antenna Technology ? Is this a new form of MPI?

MPI performs well in the current band Mobile band Spectrum. Since it has been fine tuned for years, but it doesn't work well with mmWave. LCP promised to be one size fit all, but might not be working as well in the current frequency, or it is expensive.

What is it you’re expecting that would be really exciting? Part of that, is that there’s only so much technology/advancements Apple is going to introduce each year, such as Face ID, the next major revision will be the ‘triple lens camera’ this fall in all likeliness. In general, I would say consumers generally don’t really see/care for all the advancements that smart phones include today. There’s a much larger demographic on a site like this that follows Apple and care about iPhone upgrades , when the general consumer really pays only attention to the marketing Apple emphasizes on billboards/TV, etc.

I would care to see a notchless front design after 2 entire years, a flush back, and a true return to form of the SE size.

Also, look at what happens when you underestimate “the general consumer” in such a condescending manner. Huawei’s sales have gone through the roof in Q1, while Apple has sold 30 million devices less YOY, without even factoring in the P30 and S10 rollouts yet. Yes, it’s a saturated market and tech forum users may be extra demanding/jaded, but “newness” and innovation sell loads.

Have you been living under a rock?
The new iPad Pros are snapping in half like pop tarts...
[doublepost=1557094022][/doublepost]
They're obviously talking about the iPad Pros...do you even read Macrumors or know anything about Apple?
Really? How many has your confirmed data indicated have snapped?

Yh and I wish they bring back the design of the 1st gen ipad with ipad x chip inside if they brought back the iphone 5 as iPhone se they should do the same with the 1st gen model ipad I liked the design back then and how it feels.

Apple owns the premium market. Huawei’s sales of through the roof phones are not at the price point of Apple. (Or even Samsung Galaxy)

Is it just me or are iPhone rumors just getting really boring

Although this antenna thing is kind of interesting, but the article is not very well writen.

Paying $1000 every year for new iPhone is dead. I’m sticking with my X as long as it lasts!

well finally ... haha - it took many very long to recognize its just a phone which can be used several years ...

For those wondering - like me - MPI is Modified Polyimide.

From what I can gather (I have designed antennas on LCP materials), I know there was a delivery problem with LCP for one major manufacturer as a sub-supplier stopped production of certain base materials.

LCP had good performance up to 77GHz IIRC.

I presume MPI may allow easier integration with flex-rigid designs - perhaps also better heat handling in solder phases and probably lower cost (for Apple profitz)

What's wrong with a bit of copper wire.

I am super bored of the new ipads!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a few comments on here like this and I am not picking on this one in particular, but..
Is this indicative of why people buy these phones and pads. Do they get pleasure from the product or satisfaction from the tasks they can accomplish with their use ? Or to put it another way are phones and pads an end in themselves or do they have a real function in our lives. Or do Apple fans not think like this ?
