Paying $1000 every year for new iPhone is dead.

But I don’t suspect that consumers were paying $1000 a year for an iPhone anyways. If you think about it, the price hike with iPhone started with the iPhone X in 2017, and before that, consumers were not upgrading every year, it was more like every two years. The reality is, now that smart phones are generally costing over $1000 without accessories, it’s keeping consumers at bay with their phones they have now until they either don’t function anymore or not supported through software.

Or just go back to Qualcomm for the 2019 iPhones (I hope we get them), as I never had any reception issues until my iPhone 7
Its a bit late for that, I think Qualcomm modems will appear in 2020 then again i have no real reception issues with my Xs compared with my 6s tbh. In fact if nobody knew about the modems in their phones I bet there would be very little whining about reception at all, most people would probably not have noticed that much of a difference at all apart from the fact that that most iPhones have dubious reception anyway, as do many other smartphones from other manufacturers too.

They may be smart but are less phone that's for sure, especially compared with some of the old Nokia handsets that like the 3310, that phone would hold onto a signal in places where hardly any other phone could in its day, let alone a modern smartphone I imagine.

They're not going to wait on the iPad Pro...they've obviously been working on fixing the major structural issues, the earliest they can get away with releasing any update without arousing suspicion they will.

iPad Pro had its own bendgate issue with bent iPads in the box. Part of the reason I’m waiting until fall to get a new iPad Pro, assuming they fix it.
A lot of people are. Make no mistake they're not going to wait one minute longer than necessary to fix that issue. This antenna is the kind of the thing that would normally wait, but they'll use it as an excuse to churn out a minor update that fixes the major structural flaw.

Yeah I assumed it would be to late and they would’ve ordered from intel already or not be able to order from Qualcomm in a short span of time. But we never know.

It is noticeable a lot of people will just have 1 bar of reception while other newer androids (or even a 6s etc) will have more. I’ll have issues with calls when I shouldn’t which is the problem.
The X/Xs models might be less prone to issues but I still see comments with people complaining of problems.
Apple wouldn’t fold to Qualcomm if the Intel models worked for them, so that shows how bad they really are

This seems to be a rehashing of an article published back in November, and it has a bit more detail:

https://www.phonearena.com/news/2019-Apple-iPhones-to-have-new-antenna-mix_id110878

Maybe MacRumours schedules these articles to go live on Sundays to keep up the hit count over the weekend.

Got me thinking, I do remember now, I recalled something similar happened quite a while ago, it was the exact same "problem", didn't explain back then either.
Plenty of rehashing going on here, sometimes on the same day.

I'm wondering, what would a new ipad Pro need to make you upgrade??
WiFi 6 and a stronger frame/body. I purchase WiFi-only iPads, and WiFi 6 is a must. It’s future proof. Much the same as 5G is a must in my next phone purchase. WiFi 6 and 5G are in their early stages, but there’s no reason to purchase a new tablet or phone without them unless your existing ones need to be replaced immediately, you live in a country where 5G and WiFi 6 will not be available for many years and/or you just cannot afford the price. My iPad Pro 10.5 2017 and XS Max will be with me until WiFi 6 and 5G happen.

What's wrong with a bit of copper wire.
[doublepost=1557131843][/doublepost]

There are a few comments on here like this and I am not picking on this one in particular, but..
Is this indicative of why people buy these phones and pads. Do they get pleasure from the product or satisfaction from the tasks they can accomplish with their use ? Or to put it another way are phones and pads an end in themselves or do they have a real function in our lives. Or do Apple fans not think like this ?

So I can't get bored with the new iPads that have nothing different with my iPad mini2?
leave me alone, thank you

This is good news but they still need to step up more creative designs, the Galaxy S10 sure does have a cool camera feature with the 3 cameras. The APPLE iOS and design are getting stale very fast.

What’s creative about the GS10 design, and don’t say the curved screen.
And what’s so cool about the three cameras?

Will they silently address bendgate too, I wonder
Every iPad since the Air has been super easy to bend, I’ve looked up so many videos and they all claim each new iteration is the weakest ever. I had a 9.7” in a tough rigid case for over a year and it still was bent...
these iPads can bend easier due to thinner aluminum but that’s the trade off for such thin and lightweight devices.

Nothing is future proof. I don’t think the draft will be finalised until late summer/autumn so I don’t think we will get WiFi 6 iPhones, probably next years iPad Pro will but to be honest I’m in no hurry. I’m quite happy with my 2018 iPad Pro. Wi-Fi 6 will be good but not over £1000 good, and WPA3 has been hacked already, the Wi-Fi alliance didn’t really go for all the features they should’ve done and WP3 is only just appearing. So we’re going to have to survive on security patches literally just as it’s released.

Also the routers at the moment are all draft too and the silicon in them can’t be guaranteed to work with the final draft features either, it’s all about getting people to buy things with big numbers on boxes without realising that nothing has been finalised at the moment, and nothing in the electronics market is ever future proof. With my network being mostly Wi-Fi five unless I replace an awful lot of gear which I’m not doing for a good few yeas I’ll stick with Wi-Fi five for now because Wi-Fi 6 doesn’t really help Wi-Fi 5 clients performance. I beta tested a few Wi-Fi 6 Routers and they did nothing really on Wi-Fi 5 networks. I also want to see next year what the final draft will bring like with the wave two Wi-Fi five feature set.

its subjective but the new ipad pros feel way more frail than previous 'old school' design across the board to me. Not like im gonna try to snap it, but just feeling wise. may be the lightness. i recall iPhone 5 feeling weird how light it was compared to the 4s beast

Oh, I feel the same, but it is a fear that is actually subconscious, (and made worse due to all the blown out of proportion threads, posts, tweets, etc, etc).
Because these are SUPER THIN your brain will cause you to be more weary and aware of possible damage... it's why since the beginning of time whenever holding glass, a long thin slab of glass or metal, or a tray of metal to serve things... they are held at the center or both sides, NOT just one side.
Obviously those are logical things to do, but now because electronics have become such a commodity and part of our lives we cherish them and treat them with care like they are living beings. So a lot of psychology goes into this more recent fear of bending or breaking. It's not completely illogical at all, but it is no more scary or risky than in past years because all electronics (not just iPads have been more thin.) And whether people want to believe it or not... most humans have common sense and use logic consciously or subconsciously, it's almost an instinct with stuff we buy or care about... (obviously logicality isn't used for everything. lol)

Kallum.
[doublepost=1557803938][/doublepost]Question I have now is... plan for an upgrade this fall or just use the 11" and 12.9" until I feel like updating. The anniversary edition may only be an update to the main iPad and just offer the Face ID, Apple Pencil 2, maybe an A11X or A12X with 4GB Ram throughout all iPads. There just isn't hat much else they could do for the iPad (let alone Pros at this point except just throw in new processor or RAM.) The new pros are capable of anything (4GB RAM is more than enough for many years) unless Apple really changes the OS to rely more on RAM.
What could they do to entice buyers or give the iPad a "worth it" 10-year anniversary upgrade?

Think it’s hard to improve the iPad pros at the moment to be honest....IOS 13 will be more of a feature update than what the new pros may have which for all we know won’t be here until mid 2020.

The whole product line up is boring. And to top if off, updates to that lineup have slowed to a trickle. So that's why it feels boring. Why would an antenna update to an otherwise boring product be of interest?

Are you kidding me? I personally lan to camp out in line for 2 weeks for a chance to own one of the first Apple devices with an improved antenna. That older $1K phone is going right into the trash.

I know it's a bit of a pain, but you just have to check it immediately and return it immediately if it's bent. Which is worse if you're not buying it from your local Apple store, and even worse if you want to give one as a Christmas gift. But it's doable.

Hard to improve the iPad Pro? A product that's only marginally useful and made less so by the idiotic removal of its headphone jack? I mean.. why would I want to watch movies on the plane with my companion, right?

There's one improvement to make right there: Fire Jony Ive and restore huge chunks of useful functionality he's deleted from Apple's product line.

Huh? It works far better using your air pods to share than it would be to use wired headphones on a plane.

The headphone jack adapter costs $9.99.

If they fix the bends in iPPs, and reception on the phones great.

Then I’d ask they fix the touch irresponsiveness on the iPads too. I experience that on my 8+ as well. Combined with the shoddy reception I have on my 8+, both are frustrating.

It’s painful to see almost all Apple hardware has some kind of issue that needs addressing.

The headphone jack adapter costs $9.99.

I don't carry a purse.

And with the pathetic battery capacity of the phone, the port needs to be used for power... so that adapter is worthless;Apple never released one to solve that problem it created, and disabled the third-party ones.

And why should a music-centric device have to be "adapted" to play music in the first place... and for no benefit?

Sad apologism.
