Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions are not perfect, but they are more accurate than anyone else's.

Agreed. He was one of the few who publicly expressed doubt about how unrealistic M2 MacBook Pro was while nearly everyone else was busy fantasizing about it.

Honestly, the M1 is a good chip even though it's 2 years old now.
The M1 MacBook Air was a game changer for me, crisp display, very nice keyboard, nice microphones, absolutely silent no matter what, battery lasts longer than a working day. I actually just bring a small power bank when I'm out for longer.

I like the tapered design, makes the hard edge on the bottom a non-issue unlike the MacBook Pros. I'd rather have an M1 with more RAM and storage than a redesign where you don't know the design flaws yet.

yes, think about what apple can do if they follow their own strategy from not so long time ago with the iphones...
When the next 2022 Macbook air release, to keep the current M1 Mba for sale starting at $799...or an Macbook SE at that starting price...the mac segment will increase even more..like every segment that got the SE for 1 year

Makes you wonder if they will bring out model below the Air, the “MacBook”

This would align with iPad category

I was thinking the same, but the iPad Air is actually lighter and thinner than the regular iPad.
The Macbook Air is the thinner and lighter, a cheaper Macbook would make sense if it was cheaper and bulkier, maybe the current Macbook Pro 13 chassis with older specs.
So let's say Macbook Air brand new design with M2, Macbook M1 with old design, that could make sense. The Air would be more powerful and efficient, and cost more, then the old "boring" Macbook could serve a different price point for entry level users looking for the cheaper possible option

It's cute people are so excited about these MyLittlePony edition macbooks. I just hope they have at least one color available for grown-ups too. Then again, at this point MBA isn't the computer for me anyway. But enough of that.

Whether it comes with M1 or M2 all depends on how Apple decides to name the cpus. Currently it seems they have decided to go with the extremely confusing M1/M1Pro/M1Max/M1Ultra way where nobody knows which should be better than the previous one. Nor do we know where M2 would fit in with all of those. Will it be a entry-level version of the cpu? Is it going to be lower powered than the M1Pro (or whichever of those was the first bump over the original M1)? How will it be different from M1?

If it's just going to be a slight speed bump to M1 it makes little sense. If it's even more efficient than the current one while providing the same power, great. THAT is what the low end users need at this point. A computer that can perform well enough with normal tasks, running cooler and longer. Those who need power can currently go with the plusultramaxhypersuperduper versions and in the future there'll probably be more of those in the M2 range.

Give me a macbook air that can run two days without charge at the current M1 performance levels and I'm interested. Even better, make it cheaper than the current M1 model at the same performance level and I'm even more interested.

It's nice they push out more and more powerful versions for those who need them, but I've no use for a 4,6ke desktop (the cheapest specced Ultra version). Sure, I'd want one but not at that price. It's a bit same with the Studio display. Sure, it's probably nice and all, but I can't see it being worth 3 times more than a 27" 4k display with a camera. Of course, it won't have 6 speakers and whatever else, but I really, really don't believe those speakers will cut it for anything other than listening to Spotify while working. And you can achieve that much cheaper. I mean, sorry, listening to Apple Music so you can listen to all of that hiphop in spatial audio. Took a trial of AM and I'm going back to Spotify, so tired of all of that yo yo yo motherf*** -music. It doesn't matter what I choose to play, as soon as the selected content ends it's always back to hiphop, rap and other garbage. I wanted to like apple music, but I rather support Joe Rogan than fight with Apple Music anymore.

No cellular option ? Apple pushed a lot for eSIM to be widely accepted/used and now they are the last ones to implement it on their laptops ? Even my ThinkPad from work comes with cellular.

So what's the likelyhood of it being released before summer? I need a new laptop. I honestly don't want to wait until next fall but it looks like that might be the case.

14", magsafe, cardreader, hdmi.

Wonder what BMW thinks about apple naming M1, M2 ......

Not having the M2 inside the refreshed Airs would be pretty dumb...
That depends on the life of the M1 model now doesn’t it. I’m guessing M2 wont appear until next year unless the Mac Pro ships with it. Then it will trickle down to refreshed products throughout 2023 and 2024. With production shortages being what they are, keeping as many products on one chip design is the smart thing to do, the chip production is mature and will have higher yields than switching over to new chips and process Plus its not like there is a lack of performance in M1.

Lol wut? They release it with a M1 in nov 2020 and in later 2022 it’s gonna be redesigned with the same chip when an iPad Air will also have the same chip???
Yes. You will pay for the new design with the same internals from 2 years ago. ;)

I just want black. Is that really asking too much?

It's a damn paradox. Black will always sell the best, yet they don't offer it. Because they want to stand out, or some other ridiculous reason? They can't even offer black color for their iPhones.

My guess is that MacBooks Airs, Mac minis, and iMacs are going to have these multi-color options, and they reserve more grayish color and black bezels for their "Pro" lineup.

So if I want a MacBook Air, black with black bezels, the most obvious choice..... NO! Never going to get it.

I think they'll just release them with the M1 Pro chip with some GPU cores deactivated.

I don't think we will see M2 until this time next year.

I don't think we will see a new Pro update until next year either.

I think we will see a Mac Mini M1 Pro and Max this year.

I think we will see a Macbook SE with the M1 at some point in the future.

Wow, you should seek help.

current M1 macbook air doesnt that already

Huh? All I heard was that Ultra is the final chip in the M1 family. If anything that tells me that the Mac Pro will *not* be powered by an M1.
It makes the most sense that it would be M1 actually, as their strategy seems to be to build a multicore unit for base configs (iPad, Macbook Air) and then compose multiple units for more powerful machines. It seems unlikely they'd put out the M2 first in the most powerful configuration and then cut it down for later models. They've already been putting out the "smallest" A-series processors in iPhones first for years.

I expect the Mac Pro will be a chassis capable of holding / cooling multiple M1 Ultras, either 2 or 4, with a base config of just one (but more powerful than the high-end Studio due to better cooling).

what are you even talking about?
look at the M1 max die and talk after...Apple made almost impossible to have more than 2xM1 max
So the mac pro will be based on M2 die...probably after the M2 macbook air/pro, and the iphone A16...later in Ocrober/November/December to come to consumers

So we are supposed to believe this rumor...right?
If it’s from Kuo, I’d wager he’s probably about ~60% accurate with his predictions. And when you look at his batting average, that’s pretty good, given his trajectory over the years. He has more ‘rights than wrongs’ with the iPhone, but I don’t think he’s far off with this specific rumor/prediction.

I could see an M1X designated chip, but wow, this is an interesting change in rumors. It was M2 with a lot of people expecting the M2 in the 13“ MacBook Pro launching yesterday. I can’t imagine keeps the same chip in the MacBook Air 2 years after launch while redesigning it.

that M2 MBP for yesterday was a rumored by digitimes...so 0% chances, and heres your proof
like i said back then in the first comment...digitimes has 0 information, 0 insiders
