Thank you very much for the recommendation.
I had the E8’s and returned them after just 3 days. Great sound, but terrible tap controls made them a real PIA to use. A shame because they had most of what I value in a pair of earbuds.

The two frequently confused....There is a huge distinction between 'Innovation' and 'refinement'..
Real curious what a new design would look like. Doesn't feel like a lot of room to mess with the current model. Looking forward to something innovative. Come on Apple, blow my ear away. ;-)
user replaceable batteries would be a welcome feature getting tired of throw away products with high price tags.Great product. Just replaced mine this week because after 2 years of daily use, the batteries finally started to fail.

I am a little surprised that only 5% of iPhone users have them. Thought it might be higher but I guess considering all the older units that people just use as phones aren't really that into the device. I like my airpods but I still go for wired solutions when I am going to be sitting. They just don't reliably connect for me.
They don't need upgrading every year...4 years just for new design airpods. Good job Apple.
I would imagine the stalks on the buds will be a little shorter. There will probably be some sort of health sensor in the buds too. I would guess that they'll also be available in the usual, rose gold, gold, space grey colours to match whatever iPhones are out at the time.
Boy, you're pretty lucky. Here's mine after exactly 1 hour of listening to music. The left AirPod is the original from the end of December 2016. The right is a replacement from October 2017. To say the battery life doesn't degrade is pretty disingenuous considering the claim is up to 5 hours of music listening. As you can see, I can get almost 4 hours out of the right one and not even 2 out of the left one.

Completely agree. Touch is not reliable at all. The skip feature (2 taps) is like a Harry Potter's spell: it needs practice and magic to get it done. I really like the sound, however is a little high on treble. Calls in wind/noising conditions are a big no.
Pairing is great. I have some disconnects when turning my head and my phone is pocketed. I can live with those, but I'm really disappointed with the building quality. The paint in the magnet ring around the contacts started to peel right away...

So you think a tech thing with 3 years no upgrade, no price down is ok?They don't need upgrading every year...
My batteries are trashed, too. Only about 40 minutes worth of call time (continuous), starting with a full 100%.
I'm just desperately trying to hang on until a new generation... I was expecting any day now, but looks like I may need to wait for another few months. Ugh.
It's painful ... I can now watch the percentage drop every 15-20 seconds.
To be fair, I don't exactly know if the battery is really losing charge that fast, because the percentage shown on the iPhone seems to jump around so much -- earlier today, I put my AirPods on when I got into my car (they had been in a fully charged case for the last few hours). By the time I had driven about 3 blocks, it was down to 80%. After I got to my destination, the batteries showed 84%. Then they went up to 98% while in the case (had been over 90 min, so I would have expected 100%).
I have tried doing a full reset of the AirPods but that didn't do anything. Is there anything else I should try, or am I just going to have to wait for the next release then replace?
This is a good post... I am an audiophile and after trying many different wireless models, I feel that the EarPods are a 5 on a scale of one to ten. For critical listening I use a pair of Shure SE846's with a custom ear molds, Double Helix OFC cables so I have a very very good pair of in-ear monitors. After purchasing and testing several hi-end brands, I have come to the conclusion that currently the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless in-ear monitors are the best. The EarPods are a consumer brand product and not really developed for critical listening. The one size fits all shape is evidence of this. For those who couldn't really tell the difference between 5 to 10, they are the perfect choice. My opinion.
I agree that the AirPods are not audiophile quality, but when in a relatively noisy environment, or when listening to podcasts recorded at relatively low bit-rates, they seem to function adequately.

Technically, the claim says "up to 5 hours", not "minimum 5 hours" or "close to 5 hours". So even if it gets only 1 minute, the claim is still true. We must interpret "as written". Can I join Apple's legal team now?

I cannot agree more. The Airpod is the most convenience product paired with an iPhone. I use it on a daily basis.
Are you happy with the sound quality? I personally think that there's room for improvements.
I still haven’t bought Airpods and won’t until they come out with black ones.
I’m happy with the sound quality for situations I use them for; mainly traveling. There’s room for improvement, particularly in the mid ranges but that’s a caveat of most in-ear/earbud speakers.
Mostly what I’d like to see are touch controls. I’d love if they put a tiny touch strip along the side that you could slide your finger up/down to adjust volume. Maybe tap gestures switch its current functionality so for example triple tap to make the slider a scrubber.
