"analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared a tidbit on Apple's foldable iPhone plans, indicating that the company could launch a device with a 7.5–8 inch display in 2023"
By then Perseverance COULD find the Martian we are all looking for ...
this is click and bait, nothing else

I can see the appeal for some of a $2,000 all-in-one Swiss Army phablet, but personally I’m longing for a $300 4” iPhone I can use with one hand and a $500 9” iPad Mini with a 4:3 OLED screen and no bezels. Just in case there’s a genie out there looking to grant my wish.

Small phone yes.
But Tablet too small for me.

Interesting thought but I disagree. The size of the device and its durability, at least for now, are counterpoints. For instance, the average person will not do well with a larger device that cannot be protected well. Most users use cases and/or screen protectors to protect their ~$1000 investment but how would this work with a foldable? Currently 1 grain of salt or sand between the screens or in the hinge results in a busted device or at least scratched screens. I don't see foldables handling drops well.

Your complaining about minor issues that will eventually be figured out.

You also need to get out of where ever it is you live and look at how people use phones across Asia, Africa and South America. Most times in these regions of the world your phone is your primary and only computing device everything is done on your cell phone but calls (for the most part). This is a large part of the reason why several companies are trying really hard on folding phones. One device that can be both a phone sized device but also offers a large screen like a tablet will eventually sell a TON.

People are perfectly fine with large screen devices, no one is buying a iPhone Mini because everyone wants a large screen, even we in the developed world are slowly moving to a world where everything is mobile first and mobile most of the time. When your only device is a mobile phone you want the largest screen possible and the only way to go larger then we already have is a device that folds.

Again, I disagree, tell me how this device will be protected in a practical way? No case = lotsa broken devices. Everytime I see a caseless phone with a shattered screen I take extra time to shame the owner. Hopefully I don't jinx myself but I use nothing but Otterbox Defender series cases and I have never cracked a screen even though my phones have hit the ground several times.

When any foreign object can break or seriously scratch this design I don't call it a minor issue.

On this post, we can agree!

And the one of the most expensive iPhone apple ever made with a price tags of $3,000 starting point

It’s a really cool and useful technology.
Nay sayer simply haven’t experienced it,same type of people who were against large screen phones at first ,using their 3.5 - 4 inch ancient iPhones when everyone else were over 6”..

There are limitations and cons like every new technology but in time they will be resolved.
You all should respect Samsung and even Huawei who are currently pioneering and implementing such cutting edge tech even though there are still limitations.

I’m pretty sure by the time Apple’s version is out, most of the issues are ironed out.

can’t wait.

Just in time for the foldable fad to be over!
I don't think it will be a fad, especially when its already been proven in the Android world with their foldables. Android does have a leg up on this tech over Apple right now, and I don't mean the actual hardware. I actually mean software, especially when Apple went out of their way to separate their iPad apps from their iPhone apps, and to further separate them with different iOS versions for iPads (iPadOS) and iPhones (iOS). Android from day one encouraged their developers to make ONE app that runs on both smartphones and tablets, where as Apple is the exact opposite, and ultimately has made it so much harder for themselves, and their developers to support a foldable device that would unfold from an iPhone type device to an iPad type device.

Think about it, as it is today there are many apps that have an iPhone app version, and an iPad app version. Really the same apps, but one is tailored towards a larger display (iPad), with a different layout, compared to the other app version that is written for smaller (iPhone) displays. Nevermind that Apple now has split iOS even further apart. Is Apple going to allow both versions of the same app be installed and running on their foldable idevice? How would that even work? How would app continuity even work when folding and unfolding to different display modes, and the data that was typed from one app, to the other app?

Now I can still see Apple with a foldable device, but not one that can run both iPhone and iPad apps. I can see Apples foldable stick to running only iPhone apps, and only iPhone apps, but not both.

that's why it "could" be released in 2023 ... for the engineers to figure out how to manufacture it to reliably have a lifespan of 4+ years, casing, use cases, iOS updates required etc ...

While Ming Chi Kuo is one of the most credible analysts on the planet making a prediction three years away is nothing more than speculation
A foldable iPhone in 2023 I remember him saying 2022 only a month ago
An underscreen Touch ID ..... just a month ago he said 2021 now no mention of it
It’s already March 7 months away from the iPhone 13 launch
Apple already nows what it’s doing for this years phone
Too many contradicting rumors

Had a long day today , sorry in advance if that was rude , but common.....
it is rude and now you are doing the same thing you are whining about. Ironic.
