I still cannot find a consumer use case for this. The Wii, Kinect, Sony PS Move, all failed to do anything in the gaming field. I don't see how Apple would change anything.
On the other extreme, there's Valve Index, Oculus, are extreme niche, and I don't think Apple are interested in such extreme niche market.

In any case, if this were true, it has to be shown in WWDC. You cannot launch something without any dev support. If we don't see anything in WWDC, then it's just a rumor.

They and others are coming out with these various VR and AR devices. They will probably come with health and usage warnings including ScreenTime notifications. If the public mocks how buggy they are or posts tons of fail videos on YouTube then it will either improve or fail like a G4 Cube.

I wonder if Apple are ploughing on with this BECAUSE of the pandemic? We're all struggling to find real world uses for this thing in our own heads. But what if Apple are banking on everyone working from home from now on. You strap this beast on and you're in the office looking at everyone, right? I mean that sounds awful but.... maybe that's the plan. It would certainly have the power to recreate a perfect, 8k virtual office.

You will not like to use virtual desktops. I tried them in Oculus and they are annoying.

I also used a 49 inch screen for a year and my neck and shoulders were ****ed from all the head movement. I'm still recovering and need Codeine every morning. Was one of the worst decisions.

Just use a regular size monitor (27-32) and stop letting science fiction and gaming incels dictate our views of the future. They are very rowdy online and often they are troll farms paid to push products, services and visions for companies.

Apple failed to sell a $400 speaker even though it was high quality and worth the pricetag.

I just fail to see how they will convince the mass market to buy a $1-$2K device with niche use cases. I’m so curious to see what are the killer apps they will bring to drive mass adoption (probably fitness if I had to guess).

One thing is for sure, the AR part better mean it’s portable enough for people to bring it around to wherever they want to. Apple’s forte is and will always be portable devices.
Porn ?

Unbelievable. I'm a bit out of the loop compared to most here. I still have my 2015 15" Macbook Pro which was top spec when it came out. It required the higher 85W power brick and still performs well. Now you're telling me a computer worn on the face will need a bigger power brick? Crazy! I'm actually excited to see what this becomes.

Agree on virtual desktops, but I’ve been using a 49” 32:9 display for three years now and I am looking to go wider because I frequently run out of screen space. I’m on my third display and an aggressive curve is essential. I don’t think I’d ever want less than 1000R.

I could think of much better things to spend $3000 plus dollars on in the age of COVID and the great JOB resignation and the rise of robots and Job automation.

Just sit around in your VR world and be lazy.

Yeah this is not gonna sell well.
It’s not going to be VR. Cook said VR is “off limits”. It will be AR

Just be careful. I'm 50 and after a certain age all these things can wear and tear on your neck, eyes etc and recovery ability goes down down down with age.

Curved display are out of the question with my work anyway. I have to see straight lines on screen. A client once invited me to their office to see work on their screen and it was curved. All the horizontals in the architecture appeared curved on the display:eek:?

Where did you come up with a $3000 price tag? If I had to guess, you’re purposely inflating the price of this product that you don’t know, only to disparage against it.

Sadly, that's a very common occurrence here. I suspect it's to grab attention. Someone suggested that replacement tires for the upcoming Apple Car will cost $10,000. Right.

This is going to be EXPENSIVE. If you thought AirPods Max were pushing it you ain't seen nothing yet

It should be expensive. That will leave enough profit margin if it fails. VR keeps attempting to take off and then falls flat again because the titles are boring and it's just not fun having a strap on tied to your face.

The three fastest hardware growth trends in the gaming space in the last 5 years have been mechanical keyboards, retro gamepads (8bitdo being the most popular) and DIY Raspberry Pi based retro consoles.

Young people are really interested in this old school stuff that they didn't grow up with and they are getting the pleasure of having much better mechanical keyboards than we did. I couldn't believe how something so basic can still be improved on.

That’s EXACTLY what they said pre iphone

Unfortunately I too see the same Display/HomePod/AirPods Max trend of going super high margin first and then realizing it’s so out of reach when everything else is under or around $500.

There’s also ecosystem and if it’s going to be wall-gardened off from other platforms like Steam or PlayStation. Maybe it’ll work on Steam and there are games to play on MacOS. It better.

Maybe. Everything depends on titles being interesting. If the experience is better on a desktop monitor and TV then that's another reason VR always fails to take off. VR games use teleport to move players around and a lot of gamers hate teleport. Gamers also like to eat snacks and use a real mechanical keyboard - really irritating to do with a VR headset blocking vision.

Right now you can work on

Fitness will certainly be great. Supernatural on the $299 Quest II is already simply amazing. No wonder it was Time's best workout innovation last year.

This will likely be $3000 (I hope so). You can already work on 3 wall sized monitors on a quest 2 using your bluetooth keyboard and trackpad/mouse (or voice or hand only input). This is the future of work.

Have you used any current VR headsets?

Even on the $299.00 Quest 2 using multiple monitors is shockingly good. Apple is going to blow this away. You didn't say what your issue was in Oculus or what generation.

I think (like the iPhone, AW, and 2016 MBP models) Apple will introduce this at a high price point for the initial release, then lower the price after 6-18 months.

Most of the early adopters are “die hard” fans anyway, plus the high price point establishes it as a “premium, sought after” status symbol among the general public. Then the price lowers and most other people start to dip in.
