Love my PSVR2 but Sony makes games. Not sure what Apples intentions are and what is the difference between AR and VR?
AR is augmented reality , you are able to interact with the environment you see through the glasses , ie apple could use it to allow you to manipulate drawings or digital work on an iMac Pro , VR is virtually reality you are in a world that’s designed for you and limited interaction

A just leaked video shows the new Apple AR headset which has been confirmed to be named the Apple e-Helmet and It will change the way you think and live forever. The rumors say it will have an external battery pack which isn't entirely true. Try twelve battery packs that together will allow the e-Helmet to change the way you think and live forever.

This rumour doesn’t make any sense. If the concern has been about the product itself not being ready and it was at the point of being brought out to the world and entering mass production, delaying by a couple months doesn’t make any sense. You’re not making any major changes this late in development “in a few months”.
I believe this article is 1000% bogus. I agree with everything you said. it just makes zero sense lol.

Of course it doesn’t make sense neither does the the Previous stories. It’s the same story thats been re hashed since 2015 with one or two different bits added. And the supposed leaked part of the headset is actually the HomePod breakdown part. The supposed coding they found is actually coding made up and posted on Twitter years ago. It’s the same story since 2015 on this site

If you think apple brand is is downfall and self destruction then you’re out of touch with reality. Apple are outselling every brand in Europe they are winning awards in the movie industry and snapping up apps, snapping up software companies , heck they are now bidding for live sports and partnering with sports teams and car companies, their phones are now becoming main players for law enforcement, education is now playing roles with apple and their devices and apple products are selling like hot cakes every day. If you think that’s a company that’s in trouble and struggling then you don’t have a clue. Profits are only as good as your products and how well they sell. Apples profits suggest they are great and doing well. And apple continues to look to re invent itself in new markets, already in talks to allow movies they make come to cinemas, bidding for live sports and re imagined the music industry once again , re invented the headphone space, and now re in venting the health with the watch and fitness industries.

Easy there MacRumors newbie. You've only got 27 comments under your belt and every single one of them seems to be dedicated to defending Apples AR headset ambitious. If Apples future is so bright then they really don't need you out here policing every critical AR headset comment you come across.
As a side note, you're right that Apple had been buying a lot of app companies and trying to do live sports deals but that reads to me more as a company frantically trying to diversify because they recognize their core products have plateaued and have a stagnated growth potential. They desperately need a product that brings in iPhone equivalent revenue and while they do have loads of cash the reality is that as a publicly traded company they must continue to grow or their stock price tanks. Consistency unfortunately won't float that boat.

This headset is going to flop big time. Too niche, too expensive, too many questions surrounding it.

Just wait until the tech has caught up so that it can have mass adoption. Otherwise, this is going to cause more damage to Apple than it's worth. It will be Tim's legacy.

If you actually read my comments proper I’m not defending apples VR ambitious, I’m criticising the morons on this site who continue to post this complete dribble about apple VR headsets. And so what 27 post to my name, made more sense in those 27 post than half the stories on this site. Again 27 times i have called out these fake ass journalist and fake ass sources who post this VR/AR stuff and each time im mocked yet everything I say ends up fact. Last week they posted a story saying people were concerned about it .. i commented saying that’s their way of back tracking so they can announce a delay story start of April. And look what’s happened. 27 comments not defending apple but 27 comments slatting the pathetic sources that make this stuff up

Oo how do I know this .. because if you google it’s the exact same stories that have been re posted since 2015

I could see this being really downplayed and launched as a subscription only hardware product very much aimed at developers

The launch of such a product this year is only going to work though if they say that they have a cheaper consumer product coming in 2024 i.e. so it would very much be a 'time to get ready' launch.

Otherwise, why would anyone waste their time developing for a technology demo hardware product?

Then what is it? Seems like interacting with avatars while wearing goggles is some kind of "R"...

VR is the next generation of computing

  • It's blockbuster video games

  • It's work
  • It's exercise

  • It's entertainment
  • It's a tool for training
  • It's a place to meet new people

  • It's extra displays for your Mac

  • It's a way to host podcasts (news site UploadVR holds their weekly VR Download news podcast in a proprietary studio in VR. The main hosts are across the world, one in Chicago, the other in Ireland, and they never met each other in real life at all.)
  • It's for all ages

VR is whatever you make of it, simple or complex, entertainment or work, for one or for all. It opens the door for new possibilities. Take me for example, I use my headset and PC for kayaking simulations with Kayak VR Mirage or fighting the undead horde in Walking Dead Saints and Sinners. I'm not fit, I'm not active, but in VR there's many adventures I can go on from my own home. Anyone can pick up a headset and be a thrillseeker.

But I can tell you everything of what VR is, but the one thing I can't do, is have you put a headset on and try it yourself. Only you can do that.

I was thinking yesterday, what if Apple could somehow integrate the iPhone with AR? We've seen headsets that you can put your phone in. Using the phone can negate the need for a power cable leading to the headset (because it has a battery) and can perhaps stream video via wifi or just compute on its own. It has accelerometers plus a compass so you don't necessarily need room sensors like a VR headset. They would have to increase the screen PPI (I think the iPhone 14 pro is 480 PPI) to something closer to a VR headset (the Valve Index is ~600PPI I think). The AirPods with spacial audio could integrate well as long as the latency isn't a problem. I'm not sure how Apple would integrate the cameras on the phone, but I'm sure it's possible.

The pro iPhones could be tuned to do this, and have some sort of Apple A/R ready certification.

So then Apple could focus on just making a good headset to put the phone into, with decent lenses, and comfortable.

No company has the same revenue that apple have. And the iPhone is still outselling most phones. As far as new product goes every company is the same boat, Samsung , Sony , LG, Hawaii , google have all reach the peak in phones cause you can’t do anything els now other than camera quality and fitness even fitness has slowed down cause there is only so many ways you can tell someone to stop being lazy.

We are now at the point that they call technology revolutionary stagnation, TRS , in which the human mind has over taken what they believe technology can achieve and do but in theory the tech isn’t there or in practice it doesn’t work. Services and subscriptions are the only way forward for a while , and with steaming devices and high demand for services the new market is tv and movies. As a result of phones , tablets and laptops we have created a market that was never thought about as needing a tech overhaul and that is tv. Sound , vision and tv viewing is the new innovation from companies. Gaming industry too has stagnated hence why they are going down the service root too.

According to patents we got not too long ago there's gonna be an ecosystem function of Apple Reality where it can mirror an iPhone or iPad's display in a 3D space and you can manipulate and interact with it just as you could if you were actually touching the phone.

So past rumours said that Apple pulled staff from other departments to work on AR and now they figure there isn't a significant market for it? If this is true ... WTF Apple?

I don't think WWDC 2023 is going to be a big deal. I hope I'm wrong.

The only thing here that is interesting to me is the reports of internal skepticism…

My point of view is that Apple sees public release as part of a development towards a mature technology…that they get something to market and continue to improve it until it’s there. I suspect the AR glasses need the VR goggles released first to spur on innovation to the point where technically they are feasible.

Many people on here just say, I’m not interested in VR or current VR sucks so it’s a flop. I think Apple envisions development in ways that aren’t always aligned with the current market related to given technologies. I imagine them doing stuff like offering back stage virtual access to artists at concerts in the green room (via real cameras), participation in virtual fitness classes where you feel like you are in a real room (I.e. real cameras not cartoons) with a trainer, and other similar stuff. Like the Apple Watch was developed long term towards a medical device with increasingly varied sensors, I imagine they will have a vision for VR, one that doesn’t track with oculus.

The reports that internal workers are skeptical, though is a bit troubling. Apple is known to keep teams from communicating, tho.

While I don’t think this will have a killer app on release I hope it has some decent long term vision built into it.

So with the potential of A/R, I guess we could expect a lot of people wearing (smart) glasses in the future.

To all the kids who called me "four eyes" in elementary school (before I wore contacts), I say "haha suck it". ;)
