Apple is working on a new version of the iPad mini, with mass shipments expected to start towards the end of 2023 or in the first half of 2024, according to the latest information shared by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a series of tweets today, Kuo said a new processor/chip will be the main selling point of the new iPad mini, suggesting that the device will receive only a spec bump. The current iPad mini was released in September 2021 and features an 8.3-inch display, A15 Bionic chip, USB-C port, Touch ID power button, 5G support on cellular models, and more, with pricing starting at $499 in the U.S. with 64GB of storage.

Kuo did not share additional details about the new iPad mini, but he did say that Apple is unlikely to replace the iPad mini with a foldable iPad through 2025 at least, as he believes that a foldable iPad would have a markedly higher price than an iPad mini.

Jelly scrolling does exist but it’s not that obvious as some people claimed.
It couldn't be more obvious if it slapped you in the face as you scrolled down.a page.

Some people claim that 120hz panels have turned them against 60hz and that they couldn't go back yet jelly scrolling on the Mini 6 is way, way, way more obvious than the difference between 60hz and 120hz panels.

Jelly scrolling exists and how obvious it appears is unique to every individual. Some can't see it at all. For others it is so visible that it can cause eyestrain. For those who are affected by it, it IS that visible for them.

It is similar to ProMotion. For some, the difference in refresh rates is noticeable, for others, not.

With regard to the rumor of a new Mini in late 23/early 24, I think this is highly possible. The older Mini design was very popular with vertical markets and POS uses. This new Mini is not. That allows Apple to update the Mini more frequently without concern of unsettling those markets.

I'd love to see iPad Pro Mini:
  • Mini LED / QD OLED because of black being grey at current Mini
  • support for Apple keyboard/stand
  • M-class chip for all the software goodies current A-class is apparently unable to handle *looks suspiciously at Apple*
  • bonus: ~9 inches for a slightly larger usable area than current Mini
If the iPad/Pro becomes foldable, it solves the problems of carrying it, not holding it in your hand. That's why I still prefer current Mini over 10.5" Pro

I don’t think they had one yet, and those cramped third party keyboards are probably a low seller, but you never know.

Would an accessory confuse me though? Unlikely.
I am typing on a third party one for the Mini 5 (the Brydge 7.9) right now and I’ve never found it cramped. Don’t know how many other people have bought one though but I love it, stick the whole thing in my pocket of my jacket and I can do most things I want to on the go.

Good for you and certainly great if you can make it work. I felt cramped with the keyboard on my 9.7 inch iPad already.

Spec bump is great, but even that isn’t necessary. Already a great device. Doesn’t really need a keyboard or Stage Manager either—at least in my use case—my daily driver is my 12.9 5th gen. iPad mini 6 is a good casual device to use in the home.

Just fixing the jelly scrolling is good enough (but even that doesn’t bother me).

My mini 5 still keeps up well, even for something like playing Genshin Impact, a processor-intensive game with good graphics. End of 2023 would likely be good timing for an upgrade.

Back a few years ago with an older version I did use a third party keyboard on occasion when I would take extensive work notes on the mini. It wasn't too bad, but eventually I found that using an app like Goodnotes and my finger (before the apple pen) worked just fine. Until my work clamped down on using outside devices for work purposes...
