I'd love to see iPad Pro Mini:
  • Mini LED / QD OLED because of black being grey at current Mini
  • support for Apple keyboard/stand
  • M-class chip for all the software goodies current A-class is apparently unable to handle *looks suspiciously at Apple*
  • bonus: ~9 inches for a slightly larger usable area than current Mini
If the iPad/Pro becomes foldable, it solves the problems of carrying it, not holding it in your hand. That's why I still prefer current Mini over 10.5" Pro

Basically came here to post the exact same thing. And let me use that iPad Pro Mini as a phone and I'll give my first born child for it, should I ever have one.

I have a mini 5, used solely in an aircraft cockpit as the aspect ratio is a bit better than the mini 6 (the 5 is slightly wider on the short axis). Hopefully the mini 7 will return to the more traditional aspect ratio.

A really great point
I don't care for the aspect ratio change on the Mini 6 at all

If you're a portrait mode user (as it sounds like we both are), we lost key horizontal real estate in the change from Mini 5 to Mini 6

More RAM is needed as an absolute minimum, along with an improved quality display panel.
Really! Add a 128GB tier machine, please. A (somewhat) saving grace though, despite only 64GB, is easy Ethernet via a hub. And that HDMI for simple mirroring large screen.

A new processor? The mini is already ridiculously fast for what it does. The biggest reason to upgrade from the current mini would be OLED...

Also - love the mini... favorite Apple device ever. Even when accounting for 'jelly scrolling' - which I don't notice.

The Mini 6 has, I would argue, the worst screen of any current, sold as new/latest model, Apple device

The vast majority of focus for a new model should be on making a massive leap in screen tech and quality

(also, future proof the RAM on it please Apple -- tab reloading sucks)

Good for you and certainly great if you can make it work. I felt cramped with the keyboard on my 9.7 inch iPad already.
👍

i have a Zagg keyboard case for my Mini 5. it is indeed cramped… in an EeePC netbook kind of way. 😁 I don’t use it often, but when I do use it, I appreciate the usefulness and portability of the setup.

I just want to see a Promotion IPad Mini 7. The size is perfect for one handed holding. The screen type might be OLED next time. Could be M2 based. Faster USB-C connectivity. Maybe the first iPad mini that could act like a iPhone too, instead of always needing both.

BREAKING
Apple will release a new device in 2023 or 2024
👍As inaccurate and off the mark as Kuo and Gurman are most of the time, I'm still amused at how many fan club members are willing to drink the Apple juice and buy into their lame predictions. We get what we get and when Apple will give it to us. And it will likely be a spec bump regardless of device, and iPadOS will likely remain a total POS. Apple will make me happy if they simply turn iPadOS into a usable, relatively bug free OS.

Can do this already- for years now. See VOIP apps and buds with mic. I've been using cellular Mini as both tablet and phone since Gen 1. Takes and makes calls, rings when called, texts out and receives texts. Works great for all of my mobile phone purposes! Data-only cell plans can be as low as 5GB or 5 months for $10. So I'm paying up to about $25 PER YEAR for 5G cell service.

Compromises? It doesn't have access to the default iPhone VOIP-equivalent app, so you have to use another. 911 service is e911 if you want it. If Watch or Car Play are essential, they both demand an iPhone relationship. It doesn't fit in a typical pocket as easily as iPhone can. Camera is pretty good but not as great as iPhone MAX. Select features like tap to pay and satellite help are not in iPad Mini hardware.

But, all that aside, I carry ONE device instead of two, am already on the USB-C train, no notch and I pay very little for 5G cell service when I need it. iPad Mini doesn't beg for another $1000+ every approx. 2 years. No one calling or texting me can tell I'm NOT using a cell phone. And all other apps are generally better on the bigger screen.

Doubt an iPad can be a good phone replacement? Download any good VOIP app on any iPad you own (even if wifi only). They usually will give you a free phone number. Get one and do some tests with a friend. You'll have no trouble texting to and from and calling to and from. It works the same on the Mini.

Hopefully it will have enough power to run apps in windowed mode. Right now it's hardly able to give my Commodore Amiga a run for its money.
Other than windowed mode I don’t see how this device is supposed to keep the functionality of a home computer from three decades ago. It certainly beats it in every other respect, from sound to software offerings, from battery life to portability, it’s an entirely different computing device.

I for one, will be waiting for the rumored iPad nano, the thinnest, lightest, most powerful iPad we've ever made:

If they don’t add ProMotion to the next iPad Mini I’ll chalk them up as a bunch of cheap asses. I’ve had two Mini 6s, but the screen makes my head hurt it’s so bad. (Next to my ProMotion devices) Sold both of them.
