Interesting rumors. It makes it sound like more of an industry tool, than a consumer product. ie something VR / AR developers and creatives use first and foremost, with trickle down effects (ie an App Store that actually has apps) to the consumer line in following years. Will be interesting to see the pitch when it finally lands.

Regardless of my disbelief in the utility of AR/VR as a daily experience, I have to wonder if Apple (or others) actually expect people to upgrade yearly or every other year? I kinda doubt it. I see it more as a TV - something people will not want to update often and if the tech obsoletes them it'll backfire.
It depends on the cost. Apple should refresh them regularly (2-3 years) but these would be a 2-5 year upgrade cycle unless Apple has versions under $1000, which then might be 2-3 year upgrade cycles.

How is this still a thing? I mean make a 27" silver iMac with black or nu bazel with a M2 or a iPhone 14 (15) mini.
That is what customers want (to name 2), not a car or a set of glasses. Why did Apple stop listening to there older users (that prob have more then 5 Apple products and are dying to spend more money on existing products if only apple would cater to them.)

It’s interesting that some Apple fans on this site seem to desire Apple products to fail, but we never get that kind of energy for the actual flops like Google Glass or the numerous other failures by competitors in multiple markets.
The people who are negative here are for the most part anti-Apple and joined this site to attack Apple. There is a much higher percentage of people who are anti-apple fanboys than there are people who are apple fanboys. And for some reason those people love to stir up arguments.

The people who are here because they like Apple want Apple to succeed in the range of a little to a lot.

a high-end Mac computer.

isnt a high end mac already 3-5k? how is that "cheaper" makes no sense to me
I was thinking the same thing while reading the article. Not sure if I'm dumb or it was just a poor choice of words from the author.

They're already talking about the cheap version and we haven't even had the expensive one flop yet.

Yeah... Apple has no idea what they're doing. That's why they have a decades long track record of struggling to stay afloat, always being on the edge of bankruptcy. :)

Apple's second-generation headset will have a more affordable price within the territory of "a high-end Mac computer."
Oh hell this thing is gonna fail hard isn't it??

The "affordable" model? Most people don't even buy a high-end Mac and they use their Mac all day long. But how many are willing to pay that much for an unproven accessory? This thing would have to be the second coming of the iPhone to have any measure of success at that price heading into a recession.

Why not skip the $6000 one that Marco Arment and 35 other rich dudes buy, keep it for internal testing, and just go straight to the $600 one the rest of us will buy.

Flop? Lol. Has any major product Apple introduced in the last 15 years flopped? They’ve all been immensely successful. This will be the biggest success yet.

If they really do just project an iPhone screen with a grid of top-left snapping icons…

They can come up with the technology to make AR/VR a mainstream product, but they just can’t get those darn icons to stop snapping to the top left.

100% accurate and the anti apple are always the first 10 posts say. It’s like they are sitting there waiting for the story then bam. Is pretty funny.
