Luxshare is taking over design and production of Apple goggles? Not "designed in California" 🤔

Handing over design to a third party could mean Apple believes the goggles won't be a core product for Apple. If it bombs they can just tell Luxshare...thanks but no thanks 🤝

As much as I try I just don't find myself caring about any tech that is at all, in any way, bulkier or heavier than standard run-of-the-mill everyday eyeglasses. Anything that has a strap around the head is a dealbreaker from the start. I don't want to charge my glasses anymore than I want to charge a doorknob.

It’s interesting that some Apple fans on this site seem to desire Apple products to fail, but we never get that kind of energy for the actual flops like Google Glass or the numerous other failures by competitors in multiple markets. Then Apple comes in after waiting until they had the right product to present and creates a successful market. Now the competition shifts to copy mode trying to out do Apple’s concept instead of building their own.
No, what we are trying to do is to get Apple to do a good job with the product before the Keynote, not wait 2 years to get it right and to get major bugs worked out.

At those prices, I think I'd rather consider getting the MetaQuest instead. I'm tempted to get one after trying out a friend's, but want to see what Apple comes out with first.

A low end version of the merdaverse for the poor and a high end version of the merdaverse for the rich.

But of course, the rich will control everything in the merdaverse and demand virtual rent on virtual garbage.

Rumors of the second generation of a device that is not even out seems dumb and makes not even want to invest in the first one (which I probably don't want to do anyway). I feel the same about the M3 chip being processed right after M2 Pro hit machines.
It is ALWAYS this way. But usually Macrumors does not report it. For example, we know the M3 is coming but I'd be shocked if the M4 is not already in development.

What happens is that engineers are all specialists. The guy who designed the tiny-sized one-inch wide 4K screen finished his job years before the product was released and then they assigned him the task of designing "version 2.0" and he will have that does a year or so before that product is released.

Apple would have to have a very deep pipeline where some engineers are working on stuff four revisions ahead of the current release and some doing 2 e 3 ahead. This is the only way you can have new products every 12 r 18 months, you start 40-months ahead. And then a lot of the stuff never makes it

Oh hell this thing is gonna fail hard isn't it??

The "affordable" model? Most people don't even buy a high-end Mac and they use their Mac all day long. But how many are willing to pay that much for an unproven accessory? This thing would have to be the second coming of the iPhone to have any measure of success at that price heading into a recession.
Steep price for being early adapter. $3000 or more? If get 2 years use, cost $125 month. Guess cheaper than a latte per day. Lol.

The low end one shouldn't be any higher than $500 if Apple wants it to succeed. That's already higher than Quest, but I'm taking into account Apple probably has a couple tricks up their sleeve.

Don't know how they are thinking to pull this one off but must say, extremely curious to see what comes out of this.

In his latest report, Kuo says that Pegatron is gradually withdrawing from Apple's headset business, and will likely transfer its AR/MR development team and production resources to Luxcaseict (a joint venture between Luxshare ICT and Pegatron), led by Luxshare ICT, in the first half of 2023.

This will see Luxshare ICT taking over the subsequent design and production of the high-end version of the second-generation headset. Such changes will lead to "the subsequent acceleration of reducing the cost of the headset, which is what Apple expects," adds Kuo. ....[\quote]
Wait.

So Apple is farming out the DESIGN now too? No wonder they can't get out of China. How much control does China have now, Tim?

'will likely transfer its AR/MR development team ' refers to Pegatron, not Apple.

The tools and process to make Apple's design needs R&D also. That only increases if Apple has highly proprietary parts that only their headsets use.

The reason going to seen general contractors fall out is that there are likley other folks who want to make headsets that can be done on shared production lines ( or at least subsets of shared lines). This is a bit of a 'boom or bust' to skew entire contract manufactutoring over to just one customer. If Apple chose to leave they may not be able to easily transition to someone else.

There are other rumors that Apple wants to eventually get into making their own entriely customer micro-LED screens. Again 'great' as contractor if there is steady consumption from Apple. A giant crater if Apple leaves.

This reminds me of all the "well placed" rumours back in 2010 claiming that the much anticipated iPad was going to be "at least $1000" and possibly as high as $2500. Then Steve announced it on stage and it was $499, silencing and discrediting all those "well placed" leakers.

A first generation product that's inaccessible to most prospective users isn't going to have an opportunity to break into the market. It's hard enough convincing customers that they need this new thing, let alone pricing it outside the impulse point. Apple's most recent new category, the Apple Watch, was introduced with the Sport version accessibly priced, while the stainless steel was slightly premium and the gold was luxury.

This thing has to be priced at or below an iPhone with Apple later pushing its price upwards with "pro" innovations in subsequent years while keeping the lower tier accessible.

An indefinite screen that is sharp irrespective of eye sight where ever you look at it. Who can possibly want that?

better remember the “/s”

Nope. Sorry, that won't fly.

I didn't mean to confuse you. Try thinking a little deeper rather than rushing to a snappy retort.

You already got taught a lesson in 4 threads on the same subject. Learn something.

Aren't you the guy who pretended to be an architect and then got called out for faking?
