Siri and Apple Music. I still get glitches in the first 15 or 30 seconds of tracks sometimes with Lossless and/or Spatial Audio enabled.
oh yeah, i get that too. and any time i queue an album to play next while i’m already playing music, the time continues but it doesn’t play any audio when the album starts until i restart the track.

Bit of a shame I still can't ask Siri to play music from my library on my Mac mini.
Oh yeah, it's because they want to sell Apple Music subscriptions.

When "Think different" still meant something to Apple and it wasn't all about generating as much profit as possible, features like this would have been a given.

Yeah. Remember when it seemed like Apple’s goal was to surprise and delight people? I just hate the Apple of today. I sometimes forget why I started reading MacRumors in the first place

While I get your line of thinking, there's also considerable value in having a non-portable device that is ALWAYS in the same location.

For instance you don't have to search for it or go get it from the kids who are using it another room - rather it's dependably in the same location, always ready for use.
Name an actual use case for this. I don’t see why anyone would prefer to look at a stationary 7” screen attached to a HomePod, and what they would actually be viewing.

Agree with people about siri needing to improve. I have an echo show and that thing is literally instant when you say alexa, even from the other side of the room. Siri, takes way too long to respond.

That's because Alexa is always following your conversations.

Until Siri gets fixed, these home products are irrelevant.

Hopefully, the 7-inch screen comes with an OLED display. In addition, Siri needs to be fixed to integrate better!
Everybody wants to "fix Siri". It's like she's a feral cat or something!

Oh, and I agree. Fix Siri! Talking to her is like talking to a well meaning but totally idiotic customer service person who's deaf in the ear she's listening to you with!

That's because Alexa is always following your conversations.
Although your statement is correct, and although no one knows how much (if at all) Amazon is spying on Alexa’s users, 99% of people care more about faster response than the possibility that Amazon is listening in and using their private data without permission.

Apple will release a redesigned HomePod with a 7-inch display in the first half of 2024, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

HomePod-With-Screen.jpg

In a brief post on Medium, Kuo wrote that the next-generation HomePod's display could facilitate deeper integration with Apple's other hardware products.

Tianma apparently will be a beneficiary of Apple's "revamped smart home strategy," becoming the sole supplier of the redesigned HomePod's display. If its participation in manufacturing the new HomePod goes well, Tianma may be entrusted to supply iPad panels in the future.

In 2021, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was first to suggest that Apple is working on new HomePod models with displays and cameras. He has also reported that Apple is working on multi-touch functionality for the HomePod. In the long term, Apple is believed to be rethinking its smart home strategy and is reportedly working on a combined Apple TV and HomePod device, as well as a HomePod with a screen mounted on a robotic arm. The HomePod already runs a variant of tvOS, but there are some indications that Apple is working on a new "homeOS" platform.

I think MR accidentally pulled this article from the news pile to be tapped in 22 days from today … at the least, that HomePod would have to become wireless

The HP are the most frustrating devices to use so far. Yes they sound wonderful. Simply asking Siri to play songs, playlist, radio fails numerous times. Even just asking to change volume it fails and requires multiple attempt. So until then no more purchases of this thing.

So it’s an iPhone that is its own stand but with a screen not as good and speakers not better enough than an iPhone. Just buy a stand for your iPhone.

I use my echo as a picture frame. I have like 40k photos in an amazon album that it rotates through. I'd rather use an Apple Photos album but I can't because Apple.

I'm looking forward to see what they come up with. I hooked up my mom's house with Homekit but really need something like this to integrate it all in a way that she'll understand due to her dementia. I feel we won't see this product until 2024 which will probably be too little too late unfortunately.

Wait a minute - can't you authorize the Mini to play stuff in your library?
While it is possible to play music from your Mac library on the HomePod using AirPlay, it is not possible to ask Siri to play music from that Mac library. Unfortunately Siri can only play music you bought via iTunes or Apple Music.

Exactly. I feel like that "magic" that Apple surprised and delighted us with years ago has taken a backseat in favour of lifestyle products that make quick cash. They no longer go all the way, many of their products never reach their full potential, or it takes a couple of revisions until they do.

Jobs had visions. Cook has pockets to fill.
