If it doesn't have a temperature sensor, no buy from me. Nothing screams next generation like a temperature sensor. A screen is secondary to that sensor. Please please tell me there's a way to design that dear sensor in.

Finally, the display on top makes no sense, you can't see it unless you're close to it. The curse of Jony Ive.
That and it's utterly useless as a 'display'. It's just a color shiner thingy. It's stupid and only adds unnecessary cost.

Not sure about this one. The beauty of HomePod is that it can sit unobtrusively in a corner in your room and do its thing. This one needs to be sitting right in front of you (and might be watching the room when you’re not!).

I picked up an echo show for free, and it's awesome as a picture frame. And it functions great as an alexa device.

I suspect that if Apple embedded an iPad Mini into a speaker and hooked it up to iCloud photos it'd be a hit. It's relatively difficult to get iCloud Photos into a picture frame, because iCloud. They'd have to figure out the form factor.

It'd be for youth and families, so they could stay even more connected. The main differentiator is that it can show memories from this day, events, etc - unlike your normal picture feed, which is mostly all new (except for "this day"). And it'll work with that party mode (was that ever released?

Siri and Apple Music. I still get glitches in the first 15 or 30 seconds of tracks sometimes with Lossless and/or Spatial Audio enabled.

Look to see if Atmos is re-enabled on your HomePods. I had both Lossless and Atmos on at the same time, even though I was pretty reasonably sure I had previously disabled Atmos.

Once I turned off Atmos (again), the glitching was almost eliminated. Now instead of almost every track, there's a glitch perhaps once a day (dozens of songs).

I find the Atmos remixes/treatment offered on HomePod to be almost universally garbage in any case, so you're not missing anything.

Until Siri gets fixed, these home products are irrelevant.
This is the only thing that needs to be discussed here. Apple can make its home products in any shape, size, configuration. None of it matters until Siri get's a completely overhaul. Siri is fine when it works, but it frequently doesn't. And, it is artificially limited by Apple at the things it can do, which Alexa can do just fine.

I hope this is not outrageously expensive (sigh, It's Apple.) as I wouldn't mind walking away from my Echo and Alexa setup. The updates Amazon has been making the last few months have really reduced it's value.

I can't believe this product still does not exist. It's a no brainer to have this with your music being displayed on the screen. Ideally it's touch screen so you can navigate your collection, etc.

I like the concept of the HomePod/Apple TV combo box, I would be in for that. But yeah Siri is still stuck in 2011 and needs to be overhauled, for real. The interactions I have with Siri on a regular basis are as humorous as they are infuriating.

I actually had the problems on my iPhone and Apple TV (which is hooked up to a Sony soundbar)

The thing is, I would like to have both enabled actually.

Why would someone want to make facetime calls on a soundbar? Sounds very awkward.
If the soundbar is connected to the largest screen in your home - likely in the lounge - you could FaceTime family & friends from the comfort of your sofa/couch.

This would be aided by a high quality camera system tuned to encompass everyone from a distance, or follow whoever’s speaking if they’re moving around the room (all without having to awkwardly prop up an iPad/iPhone, or manually angle a device so its camera is pointing at various people).

Where would the camera be? The angle would be all wrong surely?

Rather doubt the release especially with this design. A bunch of good information from Sonos on development of a Spacial Audio Speaker. Apple full all in on Spacial Audio. That screen would block the forward sound channel. The question where would one put the screen for Spacial Audio. Would not do it the simple answer.

Why have an inbuilt display? Why not just have a speaker that will take an iPad with a USB-C connector?

The camera, I presume, would be in the centre of the soundbar.

My soundbar is on a TV stand directly below my TV (in common with the placement of many soundbars, I would think – if not attached to the wall in a similar position).

So I think it would work perfectly…

This ‘FaceTime soundbar’ product would be a great counterpart to the rumoured ‘HomePod with display’ product that this article is about, with the latter being perfectly suited to kitchen counters/worktops where iCloud content like family calendars, photo albums and grocery lists could be displayed, and recipes could be interacted with on a device that’s always there ready to visually supplement Siri’s responses.
