Well yes but… the apple ecosystem really requires you to be up to date. Not only to receive the newer features, but also some are unavailable if you don’t, like advanced data protection in iCloud, or iMessage security keys. These required me to sign an old iPad off from iCloud for example. But of course I could stick with it, hence I said “might consider” 🙂 depends on the feature set obviously!
Yes yes. I am not using any of the stuff you have mentioned. Calling, texting, reading, playing checkers. Did not consider that. My bad, hehe.

The increase in size doesn't make sense. Apple has been actively marketing the watch for younger people, and a 45mm case will be too large for them. Also, many women find the 41mm the right size, and 45mm will be too large. If anything, they need to also make a 45mm Apple Watch Ultra for women.
Yeah, I’m wondering if this is a mix-up.

Not only does it make the smallest Watch larger than the current large non-Ultra, it makes band compatibility much more confusing as now you’d have (I assume) 38/40/41/45mm bands, not to be confused with 42/44/45/49mm bands.

My humble opinion, 43/46/49mm seems like a logical next step, without going too nuts on the smallest watch.

I enjoy the middle ground larger version of the standard watch. (The middle tier? What are we even referring to it as now, the 42/44/45 range?)

The time is approaching where I'm going to go move down to the small watch. Its display is already better than the larger Series 1 (0?)... Sigh.

Well , there were those reports of the next Ultra going to a ~53mm case size.

I just question ‘bigger!’ for the Watch. Unlike phones they aren’t meant as a primary content consumption device and unlike pockets or purses, wrists can’t be made larger. I don’t get it…

I call bs on that. I very much doubt a 400ma battery being used with all those smart features could last 10 days!

And from Huawei's site. In Lab Conditions…
10 days using virtually nothing
7 days with normal use (which is not much)
4 days of actual use, which includes ONLY 30 minutes of Bluetooth 'per week' which is odd because it’s only for 4 days.

Actual user experience may vary.
I hope you’re right. Because I’ve hardly enough battery life for a whole day in my Apple Watch. For me that’s the biggest concern and I really do hope Apple gives the new watches some more juice instead of making them thinner.

I am getting a new watch this year, my Series 5 will be 5 years old and the battery is on 78%. Its been a brilliant watch to be fair and taken everything I have thrown at it.

I buy the 41mm, so will be interested to see how big the 45mm (smaller case) looks on my wrist. I don't like a watch that dominates the wrist and prefer it to look like an actual watch.

A lot of men wear the 41mm watch too, I know plenty including myself as men can have thinner wrists. I agree Apple need to consider aesthetics and not assume everybody wants a screen that is almost the width of their wrist. If the new watches end up being too big, I'll opt for a Series 9. That would be sad though as that would likely be my last Apple Watch.

I't has to become lighter or Apple might someday be sued for drowning somebody with such a brick on the wrist.

This year's Apple Watch Series 10 will be thinner and come in larger screen sizes than previous models, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In his latest industry note shared on Medium, Kuo said the screen size options on the next-generation Apple Watch will increase from 41mm to 45mm, and from 45mm to 49mm, while being encased in a thinner design. For reference, the Apple Watch Ultra has a 49mm case.

As for Apple Watch Ultra, Kuo said it will remain "roughly the same" this year, although if production yields meet expectations, a new dark/black case color option could be made available.

Apple will also start using 3D printing technology to manufacture Apple Watch components later this year, following extensive testing which has significantly improved the production efficiency. Kuo said BLT will be the supplier of 3D-printed components.

Bloomberg previously reported that the 2024 Apple Watch could be labeled the "Apple Watch X" to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch, but Kuo made no mention of this possibility in his latest note. Bloomberg also said that Apple is considering a magnetic band attachment system that will allow the design to be made thinner, but it is unclear whether the system will be ready or present on the 2024 Apple Watch.

I'm just waiting to see if they have a blood pressure sensor.

I totally agree the 41 mm is as big as I can manage on my wrist. I am an adult, 5'6" Apple fan. They would do bearer to widen the watch for more screen room, not make it taller. See picture.

I disagree. It really needs better battery life first - when it reaches a week out can get thinner.

At a minimum, I think three days of activities should be possible with no recharge: charge it Thursday night, go away for the weekend, get home to the charger Sunday night.
I want a thinner watch yes but I want sleep monitoring too. Without having to charge the watch before bedtime. I’ve given up on the idea of an Apple Watch that can go 7 days from a single charge. Looking into smart ring.

Wrong.

Apple Watch 38mm: case height was 38.6 mm
Apple Watch 40mm: case height was 40.0 mm
Apple Watch 41mm: case height was 41.0 mm

again those dimensions are NOT the screen, they are the case. the jump in screen size was even larger between those generations because like you said, the borders got smaller, but Apple always has listed the CASE size because that is the watch industry standard in expressing the size of a watch.

Yeah. The thing to consider is that much of the increase in case size is just the far ends that extend over the strap adjustment point. When you look at this Series 2 from the sides, you can see that the area above the strap connectors cuts straight back, while newer models have an extra millimeter of protrusion there. That's why they wear about the same. My guess is that the strap connectors are actually the same distance from each other in all models, but I haven't confirmed that.

So those with 41mm options are screwed then? Was going to upgrade my wife’s series 6 but maybe not it’s going to 45mm

My wife’s the same

I don’t know what to do as hers battery is getting worse

Actually the AW is a content consumption device. Just a smaller size hence different; Macs, iPads, iPhones, AWs all are different content consumption devices. So bigger may make sense, just like iPhones and iPads got bigger.

To me it is more of a biometric data gathering device.

Measures my active calories, total calories, HR, movements, sleep, etc.
