Yep, and that's why i use a Garmin watch.
I was a Citizen fan befreo the Apple Watch. Thast said if I don't get another AW Garmin tops on the list. While I realize Apple could never offer as many options as Garmin, they have some truly amazing choices available. I'd have to figure out how to move on from Apple Fitness though. There are some things I like with that service.

Everytime I feel Apple is pushing it too far with the size of the watch, I'm proved wrong. I have small wrists for a man and I wear an Ultra, a size I *never* thought I would like, but now feels normal. I just know many of the women in my life including my wife and adult daughter will be taken aback that the "small" size is now the same as the "large" size in the Series watches, from 38 to 40 to 41... now 45! A thinner, lighter design will help offset the case size increase a bit, maybe they can add some subtle curvature to the backside to sit on a wrist better.

But these Apple Watches are so popular they will likely redefine style-wise what women like in terms of a watch size and Apple knows it.
 
Why not buy an Ultra? The significantly improved battery life seems to be the main reason for most people to get one. (All the sports related features, depth gauge, improved GPS, compass, etc seem pretty niche in comparison)
my guess is not everyone wants the bigger size or wants to pay more than double the money primarily for battery life that should be on the standard model.

The average person at most benefits from the ultra regarding improved durability, battery life and possibly improved GPS depending on their use case, that's not a lot for the price difference and as mentioned the bigger size is a detractor for some.

I'm a bit sceptical about this... if the attachment mechanism is magnetic only, it sounds like a receipt for disaster. It would be too easy to lose (either my accident or for someone to snatch it).

Other than that, this sounds like a good upgrade as long as the thinner form factor doesn't mean reduced battery capacity...

There is some confusion on what "magnetic" means but what it is referring to is a mounting design that is now very common in action cameras and I've used many times. The band will have PHYSICAL latches that LOCK to the watch, that's what makes it totally secure... the magnet will pull the band together with the body of the watch and ALIGN the latches and snap them together with no effort... that's the "magnetic" part. Basically you bring the band close to the body and suddenly they snap together AND lock. The magnet is NOT responsible for holding the band to the watch.
 
The 41mm better keep the same form factor while only increasing screen size. I can’t physically wear a larger watch on my wrist. Thinner would be a welcome addition.
 
Curious if they do go Apple Watch X, if they'll decide to restart the naming & make the watch after the X, the "Apple Watch 1".
 
You seem to be under the impression that bigger screen size means a bigger watch… 🤔

They are saying that the new 45mm will be the smaller watch... this likely means smaller bezels around the screen, so the overall case size won’t increase much if at all. My guess is no more rounded edges.

Making the watch thinner/more flush will also make a slightly larger screen feel look/feel better on a smaller wrist. The taller it sits on the wrist the more bulky a larger screen feels.
45mm and 49mm are the case sizes, not the screen sizes.

Fair point on the price - I’ve always bought the steel model (S0 &S4) so it’s not a big jump in price from there.

I disagree. It really needs better battery life first - when it reaches a week out can get thinner.

At a minimum, I think three days of activities should be possible with no recharge: charge it Thursday night, go away for the weekend, get home to the charger Sunday night.
I see it this way: it’s not feasible to get one week, so between having slightly better battery (which won’t make a difference for most of the people, since they charge it everyday) and the same battery but thinner design, they go for the later.

So really, Kuo is not saying anything new here. We’ve heard about thinner bezels and thinner case before, and we heard about a new band attach mechanism that no one seems to talk about these days…

I know they'll do an adapter if true but I'd still rather wait.
What makes you say that? I’d be very surprised if they do that. An adapter would look so cumbersome, very in-Apple. And before anyone says “lol, yeah, Apple would *never* make people use an adapter…” there’s a difference between connecting something to your Mac, and wearing something on your wrist. How Apple Watch looks is important to them.

And I assume that the new watch will not have the oxygen sensor. I do use that.
 
You heard it here first. Screens are now bendable. Jewelry type wrist band with a built on screen.
Snaps on like a bracelet. Wrap around.
There I fixed Apple Watch and not enough screen surface. Make it as wide and long as you need the design to be.
I would might buy one designed like a wrist band for sure. Don`t be square Apple!
Outside their box eh?

Retailers are dropping the prices on the Series 9 big time. It's close to time for me to replace my Series 4. Series 9 already has the things I care about (faster processor, compatibility with existing bands, brighter screen, the 41 mm version) so I'll be good for a few years without the action button or other fanciness.

the 45/49mm quoted IS the case size not the screen. the watches are getting bigger, but may fit better on your wrist if thinner and perhaps more curved on the back.
 
Is Appple listening? The perfect device for people who want to live a phone-free life is a smartwatch. But not the Apple Watch. It is a truly standalone (does not require any other device for anything, including setup, although I would accept it if it required a Mac; I do NOT want to own a standard smartphone, not even for free!) and has a telescopic rotating retractable camera, protected from dust and sweat when hidden in what seems the crown neck. Besides, the telescopic camera is a great safety and privacy bonus, since it is only visible and active when you extract it manually.

It is like a miniaturized smartwatch with all its capabilities. You carry it in your wrist and do not notice it. Your hands and mind are free. You do not lose it. Not even thieves look for it. You can sleep with it and use a vibrating alarm to not disturb others when needed.

Amazingly, it costs about 100 USD ($), although I would buy one for ~1,000 from Apple if they made it as well. Unfortunately, they do not do it yet. But at least I have the cheaper one.

One last word. It is really amazing. It has changed my life!

1) the Ultra 3 will be the same basic design but may have an additional darker color option offered. It will get the internal upgrades of the Series 10/X which include blood pressure trend monitoring.

2) based on the new Vital app and the Apple WWDC highlighting and even mentioning O2 monitoring, my guess is the new watches will implement O2 monitoring again, but using a different technology or algorithm not infrigening on the disputed patent. Apple will then just have 6 months worth sales of the Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches that are left in limbo without the feature.

3) based on the perfect pattern of 3 years of the same body design before a change (Series 0/1&2/3, 4/5/6, 7/8/9, 10...) it is rumored and believed the Ultra 4 in 2025 will be the first "design" change to body of the Ultra.

No, as at least the article is referring to “screen size options” whereas in reality, 45 and 41mm refer to the case size, very very different and it tells me that this rumor is not reliable.
The Ultra is 49mm case size, the larger regular AW will not get that big.
Will the screen size increase? Yes, absolutely, but compare screen sizes and don’t mix up screen and case size
