This Apple Watch copycat has the same if not more functionality and offers up to 10 days of battery life. Wish Apple Watch had better battery life so I can measure my sleep as well. Oh and it also comes for half the price of the cheapest Apple Watch. I know they just copied the design but as the Apple Watch hasn’t changed much in the last 5 years this doesn’t make up the big price difference.

It’s time for Apple Watch (not Ultra) “All day battery life” be improved to a minimum of 24hrs; then they can focus on a thinner case.

This is just wrong. The cases did get bigger.
Interesting I had never noticed the difference and I had every series since 0, but I checked into it and sure enough it has changed 2.4 mm in overall length which was offset by it being more flush I guess.

1.2mm on each side over numerous generations is practically nothing though

this makes me think the new 45/49 will be purely about the new lug/band design

it seems apple currently does not factor lugs into size at all like most watches do because otherwise the ultra would be easily 55mm

either way I am sure the new 45mm will feel very much like a current 41mm size

I am finally excited to get back to my Apple Watch and will grab the new ultra probably as i really want the biggest face. I guess I’ll wait to see both and decide. I have a series 6 that collects dust but i have been trying our fitness trackers but none really compare to the AW. I just need to make sure i am okay not wearing my normal designer watch daily and move it to special times, etc. #firstworldproblems

Forcing people to pay more to get more than they want is a brilliant business model.
Until it stops working!

As I said. Usually 30-45 minutes, and cardio in the gym.

That’s plenty. It's definitely not a “very brief” workout. it fits, even surpasses, the standard medical advice of 30 minutes a day of active or vigorous exercise.

Indeed, there's such a thing as too much working out.

People putting in several hours a day on workouts amaze me — they're way past the stage of significantly increased health benefits (in fact, way past the point of diminishing returns) — and there's so much more in life they're missing out on!

It's a case of AWRAS — Apple Watch Ring Addiction Syndrome! 😁 Or, maybe, it's the desire to be The Hulk or the Terminator. 🙈

We easily get several days of use from our Apple Watch 7s and 9s — with 30 minutes + of workouts. Of course, we don't wear them at night and I take mine off as soon as I've completed my rings or when I decide I want to be in control of my life rather than my watch!

Like Maverick, we power ours OFF at night — or, even earlier as noted.

No, as at least the article is referring to “screen size options” whereas in reality, 45 and 41mm refer to the case size, very very different and it tells me that this rumor is not reliable.
The Ultra is 49mm case size, the larger regular AW will not get that big.
Will the screen size increase? Yes, absolutely, but compare screen sizes and don’t mix up screen and case size

yeah good luck. the new watch CASES will end up 45/49mm, just like the current CASES are 41/45mm. if the screen size options are 45/49mm, the cases would have to be even bigger! you'll see... apple believes that people want bigger watches, even if they don't think they do... I see lots of women with tiny wrists even wearing an 49mm Ultra and so, so many choosing the 45mm series instead of the "small" watch. bottom line is all the watches are getting 4 mm taller in height which is a lot.

That’s odd.. The watch size has not increased from apple watch series 0-9 and yet it went from 38-41mm “case sizes” and only the screen got bigger 🤔 weird

Wrong.

Apple Watch 38mm: case height was 38.6 mm
Apple Watch 40mm: case height was 40.0 mm
Apple Watch 41mm: case height was 41.0 mm

again those dimensions are NOT the screen, they are the case. the jump in screen size was even larger between those generations because like you said, the borders got smaller, but Apple always has listed the CASE size because that is the watch industry standard in expressing the size of a watch.

If only the battery was better, so far at current price even used Watch 9 are no buy for me. Watch 7 8 and 9, i have read the macrumors comparison guide, its copy paste review between 7 to 8 and 8 to 9 differences. Cant imagine I am writing this, difference is the color, where the pink W9 with raspberry loop look nice. Sigh, no buy of course because of dependence on iphone only in the first place. I want to use my stuff how I want to.

Same with my S6
Not my business, but I would replace battery and carry on if I were you.
Watch7 will probably get watchOS13, 3 years to watchOS14 max. WatchOS14 will come with iOS21.
If I am correct, iPhone with A15 will be compatible with your watchOS untill then. I want to say that I would buy new Watch 10 only if I would plan to change the iPhone arround 2027. Because at that time Watch10 will not be compatible if your current phone does not have A16 - iphone 14 which is so far still pretty expensive device. Or I am wrong.

Well since my series 5 is not receiving watchOS 11, I might consider one… which is a shame since it still works perfectly…
As long as you stick to a compatible iphone, you might have no reason to upgrade. Or ?

Looks now like Apple was testing the waters with the 49mm Ultra/Ultra 2. They probably feel confident that most people will accept 45mm as the smallest size. They probably also need the larger case for new components. The 41mm case probably couldn’t accommodate them.

2015: 42/38
2018: 44/40

2024: 49/45 - I don't think so.
But, as with all rumors, let's revisit in September AFTER the actual Apple announcement

I call bs on that. I very much doubt a 400ma battery being used with all those smart features could last 10 days!

And from Huawei's site. In Lab Conditions…
10 days using virtually nothing
7 days with normal use (which is not much)
4 days of actual use, which includes ONLY 30 minutes of Bluetooth 'per week' which is odd because it’s only for 4 days.

Actual user experience may vary.

Excited to hear more about Series X. Waiting to see the new larger screen!

The increase in size doesn't make sense. Apple has been actively marketing the watch for younger people, and a 45mm case will be too large for them. Also, many women find the 41mm the right size, and 45mm will be too large. If anything, they need to also make a 45mm Apple Watch Ultra for women.
I was thinking that - Apple in danger of walking away from much of the women's market which seems a bad decision to me. As a man with small wrists who doesn't want to make some huge-oversized-watch fashion statement the rumours of an increase from 41mm to 45mm for the base model is a concern for me too.

There might be one glimmer of hope though if this rumour is true. A couple of years ago (or was it only last year? I forget) there were repeated rumours of the next Apple watch having a much squarer design. Those rumours turned out to be totally wrong at that time but it can be seen quite clearly on the picture in this article how much more potential screen space could be available on the front of the watch if the case didn't curve into the screen as much as it does now and if the bezels could be kept very narrow. A redesigned squarer watch could still maintain some level of curve at the back (sensor side) so it sits more comfortably on the wrist without sharp edges but squaring off the front face might make a 45mm screen possible without any increase in the current 41mm model's maximum case height and width. That coupled with a slight reduction in case thickness would be a design evolution that I would be quite happy with. I rather liked the look of many of the concept renders that were floating around a couple of years ago when the rumours of a new squarer design were widespread.

Every bone in my body reacts the same way... 49/45 is too big a jump (in particular on the low end... men are embracing the giant screen watches as of late but 45 might be a bridge too far for style conscious women, my apology for dividing the genders, I know that some men and women have preferences for the watch size both ways)... HOWEVER... I still think it's going to end up accurate. I think Apple knows in detail the sales numbers of the watches and I bet the smaller 41mm version sells considerably less and I also bet Apple thinks with a thinner and lighter design offsetting the larger face, plus with the benefits of a bigger screen that people used to a smaller watch will end up embracing the larger versions. Just like we went from an iPhone screen size of 3.5 inches (that many said was too large because people liked the tiny Motorola Razor flip phones) to a standard 6.1 inch size today (about to increase to 6.3 inches for the standard iPhone 16 Pro) with even bigger "Max" and "Plus" versions I think Apple believes the siren song of bigger, brighter screens and devices in the end wins and people grow used to them as the new normal.

Curious if they do go Apple Watch X, if they'll decide to restart the naming & make the watch after the X, the "Apple Watch 1".

I think there is a chance they will call in Apple Watch Series X in the same way the 10th anniversary iPhone was the iPhone X... but I just have a feeling they won't. I bet it will be the Series 10 but they will still play up the new design and the anniversary nature of the device. Even if they do call it the X I think much like phones they will revert back to numbers for future versions after this "anniversary" edition.

I can see that they could offer a Max or Plus in 49, in addition to the current (or maybe increased by 1mm) sizes.
But also increasing to 45/49 would also indicated to more independence from iPhone and more interaction with widgets/Smart Stack etc, which for me, would be a turn off (I am still waiting for that toggle to turn widgets off altogether)... ~ 3 months to ago ;)

I am surprised the thinking is that a magnet solution for the bands must be fully outside the watch. Issent it technically magnets right now as well that create the locking mechanism? They could just make the system smaller but still lock in place somewhat similar. It is taking quiet a lot of depth and high on the watch right now.

bigger screen might also just be needed to make it flatter, more space for the thinner battery and added sensors both now and in the future. - potentially new SE in 41mm in the old form factor or just keeping around the 9 in 41mm.

Bigger minimum screen size sounds immediately 100€ more expensive. At least on the aluminum version. I guess stainless steel can’t catch up to ultra and it seems like there is no reason to increase ultra in price.
well I guess right now it’s 50€, but alongside the new designed.…

Well yes but… the apple ecosystem really requires you to be up to date. Not only to receive the newer features, but also some are unavailable if you don’t, like advanced data protection in iCloud, or iMessage security keys. These required me to sign an old iPad off from iCloud for example. But of course I could stick with it, hence I said “might consider” 🙂 depends on the feature set obviously!
