Same CPU in the X, 8, 8+, so really, aside from a bit more RAM (We're assuming?), that funky notch blocking out your program or video, and being unable to quickly unlock your phone in your car, stick with an 8.

On the watch side, I'd really like them to boost battery life at some point. Really interested in the heart monitor/notifications in the latest OS, but if you aren't really often able to wear the thing overnight... wait for a three/four day charge before I'll buy one.
I've got a series 2 watch, I get 2-3 days between charges... I'm curious what effect all the cardio measurements will have on the series 3. I'm good with my 2 for at least another generation... Looking forward to the new watch OS!

There's not one feature on any of the 8's that I find useful.

Goofy masks and childish emoji offerings? What is there that will improve my productivity and user experience?

Haven't upgraded since acquiring my 6S+...and see no reason to. Runs iOS 11 flawlessly.

You always think that until you use a newer device then realise that your Ferrari is actually a fiat 500.

I’m going to get an X but on the fence about keeping it as it’s pretty much just an iPhone 8 with a longer display. I’m used to the plus models (had, 6,6S and 7 plus’s) so dunno if I can go smaller. Might just get an 8+ as well as I have a work and personal phone.

Ordered a Series 3 with LTE. If I had been in the market for a phone I would have snagged an 8. I thought they were pretty sweet and would rather other people work out the growing pains of the X.

LOL, X is an android knockoff? good one, bro.

Sorry but if you were dependent on the Home Button being there forever then you must be new to Apple and hadn't been paying attention to the rumors and conversations over the past couple of years. People complained endlessly about the device's chin, and they got rid of it. Face ID will be easier and the naturally replacement for a fingerprint scanner. Just with all the other panicking, this will fade away and you'll forget you ever complained about it.

I didn't say it was an Android knock off. You missed the point, try reading it again and seeing the actual point I was making. Although don't jump to conclusions about people being "new to Apple" because of their opinion on a product ... I've been an Apple customer since long before iPhone.

Saying they should have added a really cool feature that they're unable to implement is pointless. They also should have implemented a battery that lasts a month and specs 50x faster than the 7... but they can't, so it's silly to say they should've done it.

I'm talking about product identity, and with the removal of the home button the iPhone has lost that. To me this is the CookPhone, it's not an iPhone. Not asking anyone to agree, not even asking for a debate (it's not possible on these forums anyway, nothing but vitriol on here). Just saying my piece and putting it out there.

I am not suggesting they skip a year. I just worry about the jump to $1,000 at this point. I'll probably be proven wrong so oh well.
Apple has also lowered their entry level price to $349 for the SE. I'm sure they'll drop the price of the X to $849 whenever they release the X+ phablet.

Now a days smart watch demanding are getting higher and higher especially for Apple smart watch.
Appreciable topic it is.

Both 8 and the X are extremely minor updates

LOL. Couldn't be further from the truth. 8 yes, X no. The iPhone X means every iPhone before it look (and feel) prehistoric.

Great news for Apple - they'll have huge demand for a product they're unable to deliver in sufficient quantities and huge supply for a product for which there is a lack of demand. That Tim guy sure knows logistics.
Where is your citation on the quantity and supply of iPhone 8?

Apple is more successful than it's ever been, but the armchair whining experts of this board sure know better than Tim does.

I respectfully disagree. I bought the iPhone 8+ because it is only a few (important to me) specs short of the X and for about 3/4 the price when you factor in the AppleCare hike on the X. Looking forward to getting my new phone Friday :)

I agree, I don’t understand people say that the 8 and 8+ is a lame upgrade.
- true tone display. (Adjust color tone based on environment situation + better and deeper sat. colours)
- much better camera in the dark, action fotography, special background portrait light feature, better front facing camera.
- up to 70% faster ( almost double speed of Samsung S8).
- glass back (looks perfect, let’s see how strong it is when it false, wireless charging)
- better stereo speakers.
- 4K video 60 HZ.
- HDR10 video support !!!( even more important the 4K my opinion). Incredible video dynamic colours gamut.
- perfect for augmented reality.

I think the 6S line will be remembered as Apple's best phone for its price and hardware features. I bought mine about 6 months ago and will likely hold onto it at least until the battery dies - at which point I may just fork over the $80 for a new battery.

That's my hunch as well. The X's futuristic features aren't dissimilar to the 3D aspirations of televisions. The premium consumers had to pay to gain that feature was too high. It killed adoption.

The iPhone X could end up like the iPad... a futuristic product that was exciting at first, but didn't mature fast enough. It will probably be many years and models later (X5 anyone?) before the iPhone X's gimmicks prove their worth.
If the X ends up fairly successful, with the Face ID, emojis, etc, I'm guessing that the next iteration (X S?, XI?) will take off big time. Put a phone jack in it, and it would eclipse the rest of the market.

I've had a Samsung Galaxy S7 for about a year and it's mostly sitting around unused..... The edgeless design is more bothersome for me. Constantly register touches I don't want. I ordered a 8+ and will give my 7+ to the wife to replace her 6s+. Everybody will be happy :)
If your wife likes to use nice wired headphones just get her a new battery for her 6S+.

Someone with a 7 might not have a great reason to upgrade unless they're just into the latest/greatest, or really need wireless charging. Point being, it's a continuously rotating cycle and Apple doesn't need to hit it out of the park with their latest model. The 5S user that upgrades to a 6S or 7 is still highly profitable for Apple.

You're right. Every single year I see someone saying "I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade, my [last year's iPhone] is doing fine." Obviously!

I went from a 5C to a 6S Plus. Huge change, well worth the money. 6S Plus is still going strong, so I'll keep it for a third year, then buy whatever the successor to the iPhone X is.

Could that be because of the curved edges on the Samsung phone, out of interest?

Of course no one likes the 8. Especially if you have a 6s or 7. The 8 only only serves as a justifier for the iPhone x's price tag.

That's obvious. The X made the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus look like a joke. The only possible caveat is the screen size.

No, it allowed Apple to quietly re-release the iPhone 7 and charge more for it.

And next year, Apple will feel justified in making all iPhone start at £1000/$1000 because the iPhone X sold out, so clearly that price is a good one.

That is the product I wanted them to make so bad. And it's never going to happen. Ugh.
Take the picture and tweet Tim Cook. I just do not like the size of the larger phones. I love the size and thickness of the 5 gen.

That notch just gets me. Plus I'm happy with Touch ID...I guess I answered my own question.
Who knows they may change the notch? I think I'd get used to it.
Bought the 8+ anyway, just to get a new phone earlier then update to the XSNotch, next year ;)

I think the notch is here to stay for a while. Apple wouldn't have so fully embraced it in the software and HIG if the roadmap was to shrink and remove it over the next few years. I believe that as they are able to miniaturize the existing sensors, they will keep the same notch and add new or better sensors.

Maybe its not a true failure though.

you know what i hear every year from this site?
that they should have a separate model, that doesn't always have the crazy ideas apple comes up with, for people who dont want it.
IE: last year? people were outraged that there was no middle or normal model WITH the headphone jack and shame on apple for forcing this change on people.
both the 2 previous years? that they should have made a Non 4.7/5.5in model, and shame on apple for Forcing everyone to get a bigger phone.

maybe apple finally sat back and said, fine, for everybody saying they won't by the phone, here is a Non-Face ID non 5.8" phone for people that dont want the extra stuff.
people are still buying the iPhone 8. as the person who is actively working on your iPhone order and taking your phone calls for apple, i can tell you first hand, there are PLENTY of people buying the 8/8+. of course the iPhone X is going to cannibalize the sales, that is literally exactly what apple wanted. Apple didn't release a Whole separate model phone, with all the extra goodies, and expect nobody to buy it. infact we anticipated the dip in iPhone 8 sales(keeps those people who DO want it happy as there is no outrageous wait) and gives them an extra almost 2 months to build up more X models if its predicted to be needed based on the iPhone 8 sales.

its literally a Win-Win for apple.

I would of agreed if Apple marketed the iPhone 8 as they did the iPhone SE (ie a device for those that aren’t looking for the latest and greatest). But they spent a good amount of time in the keynote trumpeting up the iPhone 8 as if it was thee next iPhone. Then moments later showed the iPhone X pretty much saying; the iPhone 8 is dated, THIS is the future.

On a side note. Just ordered a watch. Delivery is a little over a month out.

I don't get the iPhone 8 is a joke comments. If i was into the bigger iPhones (i'm an SE user) i would be getting the 8.

Apple have given you 1 choice really. Do you want Touch ID or Face ID?

Oh I agree, but with all the uproar, who knows?
The notch doesn't bother me, I guess they could have just blacked out straight across like Samsung but
Im glad they didn't. Interesting times ..

It's a bezel-less display dude. The bezel is gone in comparison to the monstrosity that is the 8 and 8+. Hell even my Bezel-less S8 has a little bit of bezel to it but the phone is still gorgeous, as is the 10. Between the 10, the Galaxy S8, and Note....the iPhone 8 looks dated as hell and most folks just aren't feeling a 3-4yr old design hence the demand for the 8 being down in comparison to past iPhone launches
Ok, if you are just talking about the black top and bottom on the 8 and before, ok I will give you that, The Samsung s8 and Notes have very tiny (when compared to iphone 8 or before) bezel at the top and bottm, but what about the left and right sides? There is still a black bezel around it. You don't have that on Galaxy S6 or Note8 and let's not forget about the notch at the top for the front camera/ear phone. Not sure what the thought was there, but hell, lets just cut out some of the screen from the viewer. Just look at the X on Apples website (Make sure you look at the ZOOMED in of the SCREEN, look at the BLACK BEZEL all the way around it, it stands out like a sore thumb, when you say "BEZEL-LESS", I expect to see the entire image until the medal edge, like you get with the Samsung phones. Also, Apple states, on their website, that while the screen size it 8.5", the actual viewing is less. So, while the GLASS is edge to edge, the actual viewing is not. Didn't CRT monitor manufactures do this same thing back in the 90's. Boast about a 19" display, but it was only really 18" viewable? Look, they did improve the screen by going to OLED
