"iPhone X is too good, no one will buy all the iPhone 8's that we already manufactured!" – "Remember that awful notch we decided to remove on day one? Put it back in!" – "Omg lol genius"

People need to understand that Apple is now in a cycle where cannibalization is fine, and they're fully aware of it (and it's most likely intentional).

Every "generation" of new buyers will include the latest 2 or 3 models. Someone with a 5S has three great options right now, and a fourth coming soon - the SE / 6S line, the 7 line, the 8 line, and the X line. Someone with a 6 is in the same boat. Someone with a 6S has compelling reasons to upgrade if they want water resistance or wireless charging, or if their phone is just aging (battery, etc..), but still hold a great device. Someone with a 7 might not have a great reason to upgrade unless they're just into the latest/greatest, or really need wireless charging. Point being, it's a continuously rotating cycle and Apple doesn't need to hit it out of the park with their latest model. The 5S user that upgrades to a 6S or 7 is still highly profitable for Apple.

It's almost like they've got a car situation, with varying models for a similar line-up, each model catering to a different buyer and also staying profitable for the company. That also allows them to avoid having to be revolutionary each year, with modest updates still appealing to the masses. Honestly all I see is this adding to their success, regardless of how well the 8 sells in these first few weeks.

I'll let the beta testers to play with this thing first. Not getting the 8 (or should i say the 6sss), that's for sure. Anyways, i'll be hard justyfying spending almost 1400$ for a 64gb phone :(

But you're not considering the other benefits of the LTE Apple Watch. You still have the freedom of those who are runners. The Apple Watch can stream your music directly from the Apple Watch to their AirPods. That alone is a fairly compelling feature if somebody wanted it. It's not about answering phone calls, as much as it is notifications and having the freedom of not having your iPhone tethered to you at the gym or when running.
I can't wait to have the LTE going and be running, not having my iP7+ flapping in my gym shorts pocket against my thigh... with AirPods? Unstoppable.

iPhone 8 looks absolutely backward compared to the X, I don't know who would buy an 8 if they already have a 6 or 7. I'm sticking with my 6 Plus, does everything I want and more. The iPhone X is pretty, but Samsung's curved OLED smartphones look much, much better and fulfill the "edge to edge" promise. Apple's OLED implementation in the X is kind of sad, like they lacked the engineering and design resources to give us a true edge-to-edge display.

The fact that the iPhone 8 is not sold out speaks volumes.

You must have amazing hearing to be able to hear unpublished sales reports.

I was ready, willing and eager to shell out for the Series 3 until I read the fine print (talk time battery life, 3G on T-Mobile, only works in US). Ugh.

Again, what is so terrible about the 8?
It's only very slightly better than the 7, which is only slightly better than the 6S, which is... why I'm sticking with my 6.

The truth is, though, it's only very slightly worse than the X, so there you go.

Yes in theory. But for me the freedom is false. Having to pay an extra $10/mo for the privilege of using data and talk time I've already paid for is a tyranny I can't accept.

I wonder how many bought the LTE version for it's bigger storage amount or different band selection over the non-LTE version & no intention to hook up the LTE service. I'll likely upgrade to the LTE version in Nov only b/c I like the sport loop band.

My iPhone 7 runs a lot better than my 6s Plus and I like the camera more for sure. Maybe the Plus just ate up more power but my 7 has been a lot less buggy/laggy.

I love the way poor 8/Plus pre-orders are interpreted as a sign of the desire for the X.
Perhaps people aren't upgrading at all? Or perhaps more people are getting better deals from their carriers.
Perhaps more people want to see the device in-store before they purchase it.

Plenty of reasons that aren't "the 8 is crap, everyone wants the X"

I'm an example of someone going from a 7+ to an 8+, and please don't say it's because I can't afford it, or I'll buy your house and turn it into a pig farm, just because.

What a surprise, no one wants the old 4 year old iphone design? Shocking, just shocking.

Yeah the price is too high, but a lot of prior design owners (i.e. iphone 6 and 6s) have waited for something worth upgrading too...

Also, the 8 isn't super "must have" even in lieu of the X. I have a 6SP am just going to drop a new battery in and call it good. No motivation for the 8, personally.

We're so close and yet so far.

Things will probably go back to normal post-launch and the iPhone 8 will outsell the iPhone X.

That's my hunch as well. The X's futuristic features aren't dissimilar to the 3D aspirations of televisions. The premium consumers had to pay to gain that feature was too high. It killed adoption.

The iPhone X could end up like the iPad... a futuristic product that was exciting at first, but didn't mature fast enough. It will probably be many years and models later (X5 anyone?) before the iPhone X's gimmicks prove their worth.

I'll beliit when I see hard facts, not some investor making money of these predictions...
And as for Apples 'we are now the worlds largest Watch manufacture', really? So where are the hard facts to back that one up then Apple eh???.
I mean, it's not like you've totally buried your Apple Watch sales figures from the publics eyes since launch...

And I have an Apple Watch, but the BS they spew sometimes is laughable.

Also the SS and Edition are only available with LTE, unfortunately.

I understand not upgrading from a 7, or maybe even a 6S, but a 6? That thing has to run slow on iOS 11. The 8 is about 4x faster than the 6. I would upgrade for the massive speed difference alone if I still had a 6.

"i won't pay 1000$ for a phone" - yea right.
I won't and this information may be a good deal for me ! Verizon's offer for the 8/8+ is pretty lame so hopefully 'low' sales gets them to improve their offer. Currently they'll give "up to" $300 (not sure if they'll give $300 for a 6+ though) and also require that we switch to an unlimited plan, which isn't happening.... I'm sitting tight at this point. No 8/8+, let alone an "X" for me yet.

You people are crazy with your Watch LTE demand.

You're basically saying "I want to give my carrier $10/month in perpetuity to NOT carry my phone, which I already carry with me all the time anyway." Just get the WiFi version and answer calls without taking your phone out of your pocket.
Well I just want stainless steel. Cellular is my only option, but I’m not going to activate it.

Remember that the majority of upgrades come from when people are done with their contract and upgrade. You'll see a lot more iPhone 8 sales in the coming months after they're eligible for an upgrade.

Eh, I really only use it to make calls and check a few apps. That's why I would have loved to replace it with the watch, but alas...

Frankly I'm considering the X. If I'm gonna throw down the $, might as well get the biggest upgrade I can for it.

So backwards that Apple even decided to showcase the the back side of the iPhone 8 on its box, while showcasing the front of the X on its box.

Edit: Insert the necessary /s tag, since it seems people didn't understand I was joking. But yes, I understand they want to showcase the glass back on the 8. I'm not a complete idiot.
