For clarity, I develop on a pro machine and use an iPad Pro for productivity. If I want photos, I use a real camera.
Do you carry a camera on you all the time? Cause most people carry their phone on them all the time and "the best camera is the one that you have with you" as I think Annie Leibovitz once said.

Minus the fact that the X was obviously going to move millions away from the 8, this is also an S year, yes I know it was given the 8 moniker, but S years always have a bit more relative ease of purchase. The S year coupled with the release of a 3rd newly designed phone makes all of these sales statements blatantly obvious.

I'm not hating, just saying I don't snap photos. I don't do social media either, so I'm just not a great candidate for an all-in-one like iPhone.

I think that is because the iPhone 8 is more like the iPhone 7SE or iPhone 7 Legacy Edition.

Duh... iPhone 8 never stood a chance against the X.

You could tell by the introduction of the 8.

I nearly fell asleep in the lackluster into.

If there hadn't been an iPhone X, I would have thought, "If he's not that excited about the 8, why should I be?"

With regards to the cellular Series 3 - it's also the only Stainless Steel option.

My wife ordered a LTE version not to use LTE, but to have a model thatholds more value when she sells it next year for the next model. it also has a saphire display, and cermanic back whereas the other version does not..so for $40 totally worth it. Not sure why anyone would not buy an LTE version if they can afford the difference.

I love the way poor 8/Plus pre-orders are interpreted as a sign of the desire for the X.
Perhaps people aren't upgrading at all? Or perhaps more people are getting better deals from their carriers.
Perhaps more people want to see the device in-store before they purchase it.

Plenty of reasons that aren't "the 8 is crap, everyone wants the X"

I'm an example of someone going from a 7+ to an 8+, and please don't say it's because I can't afford it, or I'll buy your house and turn it into a pig farm, just because.

....sounds good there, Brick Top. ;)

How do i get KUO's job. Does he/she get paid for this information?

Truth is, i'm opting for a Watch Cellular prior to the release of iPhone X. Why? Well, my iPhone every year contract allows me to pick up a new phone in March of 2018 and the reason why Kuo is right in this case. I can't order until my 1 year anniversary.
Apple's program will help level out demand over time being that everyone on the program has a different Anniversary date.

"i won't pay 1000$ for a phone" - yea right.
It took Apple $412.75 to build an iPhone X, and this doesn't include the OEM manufacturing costs, software and hardware R&D costs, transportation costs, chip foundry costs, and marketing costs and so on. So the price is worth!

I like to take pictures of things when I walk; squirrels, bugs, flowers, dogs, etc. So It's great cause I hate carrying my giant ass DSLR. I use that for making short films now.

For this information probably not. He's a tech Analyst who makes the best predictions. I'm not sure if he has a website. But I guess he could make ad revenue from that if he does.

Ugh I don't know what I'm doing. I nearly feel like cancelling my 8+ and waiting to see the X.
You should. The 8+ isn't in high demand. If the X isn't to your liking get the 8+ later.

This cycle seems unsustainable. $1,000 for an iPhone...fine. But $1,000 again next year? And the year after? I'm skeptical. Hopefully it works out because that will mean more great products from Apple.

Furthermore, many people who order on launch day are the technology enthusiasts—so it makes more sense that they are waiting to buy the high-end model. ... We're the odd ones who wake up in the middle of the night to order. Things will probably go back to normal post-launch and the iPhone 8 will outsell the iPhone X.
Agreed. the demographic here is tech nerd hanging out on a tech rumors site - skews much more towards "likely to want the most techy variant possible". Also a big overlap with the crowd eager to order in the first 10 minutes. And Apple's splitting their attention this year. I expect they'll still come out ahead. It'll be interesting to see if there's a bump in iPhone 8 orders the day after the iPhone X order window opens, when a bunch of people will be reconsidering whether they want to wait until next Spring to get an X; because everyone envisions getting their order in first, but obviously not everyone will be first - and X production sounds like it'll be closer to 10k/day than 450k/day for their main lines (which will be busy churning out 8's and 8+'s).

Yes you can. EVERY iPhone ever released had a month wait time within 24 hours of sale. A week later and I can get any phone I want at my door in one week. The iPhone 8 is a failure. It's not to say Apple failed as I imagine we're going to see record wait times for the iPhone X that will make everyone forget the iPhone 8 exists. The wait times will make the ridiculous wait times we've experienced for the AirPods look like a passing breeze.

Maybe its not a true failure though.

you know what i hear every year from this site?
that they should have a separate model, that doesn't always have the crazy ideas apple comes up with, for people who dont want it.
IE: last year? people were outraged that there was no middle or normal model WITH the headphone jack and shame on apple for forcing this change on people.
both the 2 previous years? that they should have made a Non 4.7/5.5in model, and shame on apple for Forcing everyone to get a bigger phone.

maybe apple finally sat back and said, fine, for everybody saying they won't by the phone, here is a Non-Face ID non 5.8" phone for people that dont want the extra stuff.
people are still buying the iPhone 8. as the person who is actively working on your iPhone order and taking your phone calls for apple, i can tell you first hand, there are PLENTY of people buying the 8/8+. of course the iPhone X is going to cannibalize the sales, that is literally exactly what apple wanted. Apple didn't release a Whole separate model phone, with all the extra goodies, and expect nobody to buy it. infact we anticipated the dip in iPhone 8 sales(keeps those people who DO want it happy as there is no outrageous wait) and gives them an extra almost 2 months to build up more X models if its predicted to be needed based on the iPhone 8 sales.

its literally a Win-Win for apple.

I'm waiting to see the impact the X launch has on 8+ pricing on contract. Could end up with some great discounts if there is massive over supply

If Apple can only make 40 million iPhone X's, than they better be able to sell 40 million iPhone 8 and other iPhones if they want to at least match last holiday quarterly sales. I'm getting the sense it may not happen. Apple should have known and prepared for this but they actually did just the contrary. Apple had the nerve to increase iPhone 8's price by $50 over the iPhone 7 making it even less appealing.

Only Apple can have the nerve to say, "We are losing over $100 billion worth of sales because we just can't make enough iPhone X's, even though we fully knew this would happen and we just couldn't prepare for it".

Kuo is great for some leaked information, but all too often information is obvious. That said, we can’t really glean too much information regarding sales by Apple’s store availability, as we don’t know what causes it outside of speculation.

On the phone yes. The ratio on the Apple Watch though, if nearly correct, for me was not obvious.

The fact that the iPhone 8 is not sold out speaks volumes.

You're assuming this means that the day-one fangirls are waiting for iPhone X. Okay, that makes sense, even though it's only circumstantial evidence.

It doesn't mean anything beyond that. Many people buy iPhones as holiday gifts, when they need an upgrade, or whenever. Nobody outside Apple knows what the actual numbers are. Without more context, "iPhone 8 isn't sold out 3 days after pre-order availability" means very little.

Ugh. X is such a gimmicky, reactionary product, but I'm starting to think its bizarre screen is going to be the new normal for Apple and I'd better get used to it. And I truly despise the 6/7/8 form factor. What's a dev to do?

You people are crazy with your Watch LTE demand.

You're basically saying "I want to give my carrier $10/month in perpetuity to NOT carry my phone, which I already carry with me all the time anyway." Just get the WiFi version and answer calls without taking your phone out of your pocket.
The Watch w/cellular is specifically a big win for runners, who don't want to take their phone with them (no pockets, plus it'd bounce around), and swimmers, whose phone is safely locked in a metal locker 100 yards away, while they do laps (let's see BT handle that), and people at the beach, who can leave their phone out of sight in the car, and not have to worry about someone stealing it off their towel if they decide to go for a swim. These use cases don't apply to me, but I can totally see their utility. Keep in mind that one's own use case is rarely universal.

apple didn't even bother properly promoting the 8 series during the keynote.
besides, the improvements don't really justify an upgrade – and they are aware of that.

Based on reading the MacRumors forums - - endless complaining about the notch, the lack of TouchID, the inclusion of FaceID, the price, etc, etc, etc - - I thought no one would be buying the iPhone X.

Now all of a sudden the fact that everyone wants the iPhone X is obvious news?!?

You're confusing MR posters with the mass buying public. It's a common refrain here: "This latest Apple product is an overpriced, obsolete-upon-release, fugly insult to Steve Jobs' legacy -- but I'm sure it will sell like hotcakes!" The question is what percentage of complainers also end up being buyers.
