Apple's mixed-reality headset could launch as late as the fourth quarter of 2023 or early 2024, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo shared the information in a tweet earlier today, noting that the latest forecast represents a delay over the previous third quarter of 2023 prediction for mass shipments of the headset. He added that investors are more interested in whether the product announcement will convince customers that "Apple's AR/MR headset device is the next star in consumer electronics," rather than shipment numbers. If the device does launch this year, shipments are likely to be even lower than existing estimates, he added.

Morgan Stanley analysts believe Apple's headset will enter mass production in October and launch by December, just in time for the holiday period – a time frame that broadly mirrors Kuo's forecast. Apple's supply chain is apparently preparing to assemble only 300,000 to 500,000 headsets in 2023.

Apple's headset is widely expected to be announced today during its WWDC keynote, so there may soon be further information about when the device will launch. Follow along on MacRumors.com and @MacRumorsLive on Twitter for full coverage of Apple's announcements throughout the day.

AR/VR is cool, but it is really not for everyone!

Willing to wait that long. I need to save money to afford this AR/VR headset. I just hope it does not end up like AirPower.

Will they announce the launch date at this event? If so, this may be one of the latest launch dates announced in WWDC history.

Another AirPower? Just kidding.

If that’s true, then they’ll show off non-working headsets at WWDC.

AirPower was so weird when you think about it…

How nice of Apple to give us 6 months to save up for the high price tag. Lol. Joking of course.

Breaking news: post WWDC Kuo has surveyed new supply chain providers and now thinks the headset will coincide with a launch date of late October like apple said on stage today

If they release it THIS late, they're not going to announce it at WWDC, most likely in September or November.
It absolutely makes sense to announce at WWDC while launching the product later, just like they did with Apple Watch, because they need to give developers some time to implement apps for the new platform. Also I suspect they can only keep the rumors at bay for so long before something leaks, so they share some info about the product to stay ahead of the leakers.

To miss the first holiday shopping season for the product would be laughable, but it's also possible this thing is priced out of reality for holiday shopping consideration, so it wouldn't matter. Also likely that they can't make enough to satisfy the Apple early adopter demand anyway.

I think people will be surprised at the number of orders they will receive, even at that price point.
That's going to depend entirely on the software. Rumor wise, we've heard nothing so far to indicate that the product justifies its own existence let alone the rumored price point. Very interested to hear what Apple's vision is for this thing. If their vision just amounts to an iPad you wear on your face, an actually does cost $3k, then it is DOA, as others have said.
