Kuo: Apple's Mixed-Reality Headset Could Launch as Late as 2024

I wonder how many people will buy them at $3k?
Developers who want products ready for when the affordable version launches?

The keynote tag line was "code new worlds" rather than "explore new worlds" - and the sort of product they're describing is going to live or die by its Apps, so I wouldn't be too shocked if what is announced is a developer program rather than a consumer product.

As soon as Apple want to expand the developer base beyond a few trusted partners on NDAs they pretty much have to have a product announcement. After a keynote announcement they can offer developer sessions as part of the Developer Conference bit of WWDC that comes after the opening shindig.

Rumor is Apple will launch the VR headset only when it's capable of making the free McChicken looks like you are eating mediterranean food.

- Apple needs to communicate why I need this clearly.
- It needs to look good
- It needs to be easy to setup
- It needs to be super easy to navigate
- It needs to remove the technology out of the way - thats not gonna be obvious if its on your face.

They're going to be pushing Apple Card hard with his device launch.
Breaking up $3,000 (a price point I still feel has been intentionally floated to make the $1,999 seem like a steal) over 2 years (~$125/mo) starts to make more sense. For some. Clearly, I am speaking solely on the math here vs. product features/benefits. A few more hours...

Those are great points. You might be right on it.

I will admit I was wrong about the watch (although it took a long while to get going...) but I really can't see this one going too far. It's failure will be a fitting legacy to Tim Cooks reign over Apple.
My bet is that this will be the Apple Newton for the 2020s - in 2040 (if we're not hunting for fresh rats) we'll be looking at retro holo-casts on EyeTube saying how it was ahead of its time and might have succeeded if only they'd had modern retinal implant technology...

But then, like you, I'd have said that about the Watch - but in many ways that had an existing potential market with an established "killer app" (fitness/health monitoring), and just had to displace FitBit to succeed. The goggles seem to be pitching for a whole new market (rather than gaming).

AR/VR is cool, but it is really not for everyone!

Willing to wait that long. I need to save money to afford this AR/VR headset. I just hope it does not end up like AirPower.

Just realised that both AirPower and Mixed Reality are great names for vaporware.

For the asking price I would gather that it is both going to act as a screen (obviously) and also have an OS that perhaps is a mix between Mac OS and iOS? I am seeing a future here that you would be able to have your phone as a secondary screen inside the headsets screen and maybe even your Mac OS screen, while at the same time seeing your surroundings.

So “only 500k” if launched by shopping season I mean December but still gonna die on the “oNlY fOr PrOfEsSiOnAlS” and $3k hill huh? Not sure if anyone here is a math genius or has any common sense, but something here isn’t adding up…
