Hoping this could be true. Since there is almost nothing news about the refreshed Macs now. He’s just not mentioned the Mac, but there are significant updates coming to almost all of the Mac lineup this year. Don’t worry, it won’t just be a ‘cheaper MacBook Air’.
There is nothing new in this report, it’s just old information.
The mini is basically where the iPod Touch is today, irrelevant to Apple. As much as there are those (At least on tech sites) who would appreciate that form size for an iPad, Apple clearly has demonstrated they are moving away from that specific tablet size to incorporate a larger interface. Even smart phones are testament to where consumers want larger displays, with more battery power that can display more information.
A larger Apple Watch will look horrible except on those who have Ahnold wrists.
When will these phones finally stop growing? My iPhone X already is too large for my taste and I know many people who feel so, too. It doesn’t even fit in some of my man pants pockets! Now it is rumoured to be the smallest option. This is getting absurd.
Apple would be making a big mistake if they dropped the iPad Mini. I don’t accept the demand is not there. Of course sales will drop off if Apple doesn’t update it. This is why so many people hate the way Tim Cook is running Apple.

Okay, so, hear me out; let's assume you've just been hired as CEO, and simultaneously been appointed a secondary role as senior designer... right, so bearing that in mind, let's hear YOUR grand ideas, and how you intend to force "innovative products" out of your workforce on an annual cycle...
... c'monnnn, your customers and loyal die-hard fans are waiting - put ya money where your mouth is - what do YOU propose, assuming your fictional role as CEO etc...
I'm not being cynical or sarcastic, in case that comes across as being so; I'm looking at your comment objectively, and asking![]()
“Do you really think apple would leave money on the table ignoring there was demand?” Well do you also think the Mac mini, Mac Pro and MacBook Air have no demand?Face it, nobody wants an iPad mini.
Do you really think Apple would leave money on the table if there was demand? They could update it every 6 months if there was demand.
The 9.7" iPad has demand and Apple updated it last year and again this year.

You're clearly in the minority.

Professional users definitely do upgrade every 2 years as soon as new gpu architure is out.The Mac has a consumer replacement cycle of 4 years compared to 1-2 years for iPhone and iPad.
No one is expecting frequent refreshes for Mac.

I suspect Apple is dropping the iPad mini to avoid competing with the larger iPhones, which are more profitable overall. This in turn allows Apple to push users towards larger and more expensive iPads, since they seem to have equated larger with more premium.
The rumor is there is one cheaper (iPhone 8 like) with LCD display.Hold on a sec. So no more, iphone 6/7/8 etc, no 9. But X. And X costs ways more. But they release a cheaper, 'budget' X which won't be the one people want.
We've been had. They have switched the $/eur 600/700 price model into $/eur 1000 model.
And sweet FA news on macs and professional machines.
Maybe because they all look the same
- Kuo on how Apple can grow under fiercer competition: "In the high-end market, Apple's real competitor is itself, which implies that it needs to offer new models that appeal to consumers to boost replacement demands. We attribute the iPhone's slow growth in recent years to there being no significant replacement demands boosted by new models after the iPhone 6."
