Not specifically about Apple Intelligence, but I'll throw in my pair of pennies about AI in general. Why does it keep getting shoved in our faces with no way to remove it? Google AI search is AWFUL, and I'm tired of it taking up my whole screen when trying to search. Even online shopping places are integrating AI into their search function. Why? I don't need Amazon's AI nonsense telling me what to buy.

Is this what people want?

If Apple hasn't increased their orders, it means Apple is not being optimistic about this.

As someone who has dreamt of AI all his life and integrated multiple LLMs into his daily workflow, I think that the notion of AI being even remotely a selling point is sheer wishful thinking. It won’t be, at least until the ChatGPT team keeps its hefty promises and reaches its ambitious goals—i.e., providing everyone with a digital assistant with a passable similarity to ‘Her.’ Otherwise, the next flagship phones aren’t even going to leave a blip on anyone’s radar.

It might help if any of it looked like it would be out by the time the phone is...

ChatGPT has 200 million+ users.

Who cares? I have an account and haven't used it for probably six months, and have no interest in it. My wife has one too, and has used it one time. In addition, you don't need new hardware to use ChatGPT; just an app or browser.

My 13 Pro is fine and I'll be using for at least another year.

Lots of people saying people don't like AI, but the fact is that lots of people don't know what AI actually is. Even the AI-bros pushing it at every turn.

Kuo knows his stuff. Listening to him can help keep Apple from pulling the wool over your eyes. :)

It’s what venture capital and private equity wants.

They all need their next big financial hit and they are trying to ram something down our throat.

Before it was crypto and now we are onto AI and it won’t be that either
You left big consultancy out of that list…

Generative "AI" is completely worthless. It can't do anything reliably, repeatably or in a trustworthy manner. It's just the latest techbro grift like the blockchain and NFTs before it. Even the name is a lie, there's zero intelligence involved. No-one is buying a phone just for this.

This isn't entirely true - one can achieve repeatable, reliable results with the right toolset. Just that the chat bots we are given to interact with are not that.

I will be getting an iPhone 16 and if there is or isn’t AI has no impact. My iPhone XR is just wearing out. The battery needs replacing, generally slowing since ios17, really want to upgrade to 5G, small chip on camera lens, lightning port does not work part of the time. I was considering the iPhone 15 but I was disappointed by the thermal issue and the “software” fix. And after continuing issues with lightning ports, it has to be something else (hence no iPhone 14 or earlier)

Fair enough, but I can already use ChatGPT right now on my iPhone 15 and people who cannot use the app can use it via their browsers. Basically, the geeks will find a way with their existing hardware and general public do not seem to be in a hurry, as the first question they ask is: “What will it do for me?”.
