I'm one of them. I used it a few times and haven't been back since. I wonder how many of those users have done the same.

I regularly use ChatGPT for translations and quick article writing and it works really well for both. I don’t need any extra hardware for it, though.

I actually think the industry has misjudged the consumers, and hence public’s, appetite for AI.

Most people are increasingly concerned by its impacts on privacy, security… and the wider economy and jobs especially.

I’ve seen commercials recently for AI powered software… commercials that highlight AIs ability to do things that a person would normally do at their PC… and one in particular is associated with “Einstein”… which I think is wrong and technically misleading… and actually offensive to the guy. The commercial has a smug person smiling at the results of the AI work, seemingly unaware that the software has actually made their position redundant. They have nothing to be happy about, their employer can get rid of them 😂

AI has its uses but increasingly companies are swept up into it without regard for long term impacts on us as a people.

It will help for sure. But my guess is... not THAT much.

Apple Intelligence I believe is just the beginning of a new era, but it won't even be available this year in other languages than English, and if I'm not mistaken it's going to be in beta and/or it won't have all the features they announced yet.

I think another issue is that Apple Intelligence currently doesn't do all that much compared to third-party AI. You can get the same functionality and more just by installing some apps even on old iPhones.

AI as in Apple Intelligence will only become a factor once people use it And demonstrate how they benefit from it…
The current “genAI” is just a Wall Street and big consultancy hype and has yet to prove benefit for the average user
Sounds exactly how the internet was

Apple does not appear to have increased iPhone 16 orders despite reports to the contrary, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo cites recent earnings reports from Apple suppliers TSMC and Largan as evidence.

TSMC recently said that it did not see an increase in unit growth, while Largan said that orders for high-end models in 2024 are similar to last year. Kuo believes that Apple's iPhone 16 orders for the second half of 2024 are around 87 million units, which is lower than the 91 million iPhone 15 units that Apple ordered in 2023.

Kuo said that certain suppliers may have been asked to increase production, but that may be related to "specific reasons within individual industries or components."

He suggests that expectations that Apple Intelligence will drive iPhone 16 sales "may be too optimistic" as the feature is available in U.S. English only.

Earlier this month, Bloomberg suggested that Apple was counting on the iOS 18 AI features to boost iPhone shipments by 10 percent in 2024. Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later, so customers with an older iPhone will need to upgrade to the iPhone 16 to get the technology.

Apple Intelligence includes a long list of new capabilities, including Writing Tools for proofreading, polishing, and summarizing text, Image Playground for generating images, and Genmoji for creating custom emoji. Apple Intelligence will also be used to overhaul Siri, but the new Siri functionality isn't slated to launch until 2025.

So far, Apple has not established an AI deal for Chinese consumers, and Apple Intelligence will also not be coming to the European Union when iOS 18 launches.

Why would you update to iPhone 16 when according to Apple, AI won't be available until the middle of 2025. I'd wait and buy the iPhone 17. Silly, otherwise.

AI was never going to be the thing that would drive a massive upgrade cycle. The features are brand new, massively overhyped and most of them probably pointless, but there will be a slow burn to weed out the gimmicks until you can't release a phone anymore without certain AI features.

The ChatGPT app on my iphone is a better offering than anything I've seen out of Apple. I'm an AI developer and very pro-AI, but Apple missed the boat on this technology and I don't think this sudden pivot is fooling many people. It's going to take them years to catch up. Reminds me of how MS missed out on the internet and spent a similarly lengthy time in the desert as a result.

I can see this going the same as with EV vehicles. The industry decided they were going to force EV's and that the public would just accept it. They ended up being very wrong obviously.

Sure there is a small percentage of people that want EV's and AI and that number will slowly grow in time but early on its going to be rough.

Kuo isn't bad about future products, but timelines and supply chain insights are not his strength. Take this with a huge grain of salt.
