I upgraded from the mini 2 to the mini 5 and was very pleased with the performance boost. I'd need some real convincing to upgrade again so soon, otherwise I can wait.
I get your point, and feel the same way... but the question is, how does Apple feel? Are their margins big enough on the ipad mini? With the release of larger iPhones, they definitely slowed down the upgrade cycle. I watched the same thing happen to the ipod touch. Trust me, i want the ipad mini to stick around! I lust after an ipad mini with a flat edged design that is able to use the apple pencil 2. As an artist, that would be my go to travel ipad.Judging from other folding smartphones that have been marketed, I seriously doubt a $2000 folding iPhone will be a viable option to get instead of an updated $400 iPad mini which costs an estimated 1/5th as much. They are totally different markets.
Once had iPad mini 4, now using the mini 5... am excited with the features of mini 6.Am I the only one who really likes the iPad mini form factor exactly as it is?
If only Apple could align it's naming scheme for the next mini so that it's similar to that of the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 lineups, then so many would finally understand this simple concept you just laid out. It should just be called iPad Air 10.9-inch and iPad Air 8.4-inch moving forward. It would clean up the lineup tremendously and finally put an end to this so called unicorn "iPad mini Pro" desire. It's becoming almost as bad as the mythical headless consumer xMac tower.iPad Mini is from the same line as iPad Air, just smaller, it's very likely that it would be very similar in features to its bigger brother.
Considering it took them 10 years to give the iMac Touch IDThey should kill this thing. Apple is too lazy to EVER update this. Oh and now a delay for this upcoming non-update. How long will they keep this machine on Lightning port and round touch ID button? 5 years after the Pro got rid of them? 10?
Of course it was spring 2 years ago when the iPad base model was updated. In reality there was no delay to begin with and they both were flat out wrong. Pro’s have generally been announced in the Spring, the others announced in the Fall.
Absolutely 👍👍An iPad Mini with Pro form factor and mini-LED display is top of my device wish list. I adore my iPhone 12 Pro Max but I still find it too small for many situations, whereas my iPad Pro 12.9 is often too big. An iPad Mini Pro would become my go-to device for so many situations, and I could then happily move to a cheaper and more pocket friendly phone, while keeping my iPad Pro for mobile yet heavy lifting tasks.
Touch ID in the power button like on the new Airs would be icing on the cake.
That's what the iPad nth generation iPads are for. There is already a low cost iPad. People don't buy the mini for the cost, they buy it for the form factor. I want and expect the iPad mini line to on par with the iPad Air series. Frankly, getting tired of the neglect the iPad mini series gets. I have the iPad mini 2, and it is almost unusable now. So it sucks that I actually have very little choice if I want to keep using a mini.Gotta milk the form factor and parts for another year, like the SE 2020. Helps keep costs down and/or encourages customers to upgrade to Pro versions if they want new and shiney designs.
Agreed. No one buys a Mini because it's the cheapest iPad (because it is not) - it is form factor driven. It is particularly valuable to those of us who's main device is a Windows laptop and we need the convenience and quality of a good light weight tablet device. Sure but obvious thought: Apple wants to keep its costs down to maximise it's margin of profit. So if they use the same form factor and just update the internals then it's business as usual. People who want/need this size of tablet will still buy it. What you want VS what Apple are prepared to deliver.Agreed.
