If you think dynamic island is about screen real estate you have no idea what you're talking about.

The idea of dynamic island is about blending hardware with software. The notch is not usable, wasted space where as the dynamic island becomes part of the user experience.
It appears the only thing you have an idea about is Apple ad-copy.

Where is Ming-Chi Kuo getting these numbers from?
I’m not saying it’s not true but how is he getting the figures exactly?

Personally I would be game for the 14 Plus if I upgraded this year, I don’t particularly need any of the Pro features in my Pro Max, I mostly got it for the bigger screen.
All credit transaction data is public available for sales to hedge funds and other financial analysts to know trends of anything in real time. The data is aggregated and anonymized but if you pay for it you can immediately know how many people pay how much for what vendor in what location

Honestly, I would be surprised if their market position doesn’t sink a lot in Europe come Christmas. Prices are preposterous, 1009€ for the base model, same processor, design, and without a charger.

So far I don’t know a single person who is planning to buy one. Not that I know everyone, obviously, but it’s very unusual

Seems to validate the theory that the Mini failed because Apple forced people to choose between size and Pro features. I would have bought a Mini Pro in a heartbeat.
There is also size constraints involved though. I don’t see where you’d put additional camera hardware in that tiny phone (reason I didn’t go mini). I think the problem is you’re not far off from “pro” pricing and with people in the US often paying payments, that’s just a few extra dollars a month.

Their global market share is niche anyway, unlikely Apple cares if Europe shrinks further.

I can't help but be reminded of the parable of the elephant and the 4 blind men. They each touch a different part of the elephant, and come to erroneous conclusions of what an elephant is supposed to look like as a result. Feels like the same thing here. They may have access to (incomplete) sales data, but lack the context to make sense of the data.

I only know the sales number of 14 plus is very bad, regular 14 is pretty bad, while regular latest iPhone was best selling iPhone every year before.

Screw Apple and their push to get everyone to buy a Pro Max iPhone rather than a smaller or non-Pro device.

I kind of agree, their new crazy pricing makes us feel only make sense to buy pro and pro max or don’t buy at all.

Isn't there a one month delay on the 14 Plus? If so, there is the very real and simple answer to why orders aren't great for it. Early orders are for people excited to get the kit asap. Once it becomes available expect to see good sales for it. Especially in foreign markets.

Foreign markets? 21% price increase in Japan or 16% price increase in UK…and this crazy expensive plus with 2 camera only and some old hardwares…Expect this would be the worst selling number of new iPhone model ever.

dynamic island is about making what people hate the notch for years become a selling point lol xd

Where were you visiting from?

One thing I've noticed is that dollar prices on average for nicer restaurants are about the same in Canada and the US, except that they're in CAD in Canada and in USD in the US, which means that it's about 30% more expensive in the US.

Those Norwegian prices would make my head explode!

---

Anyhow, there is a great deal on the iPhone 13 Pro Max 128 GB in Canada from a major retailer, Costco, for $1299.97 CAD. That translates to:

857 GBP
989 EUR
1001 USD
1453 AUD
6934 CNY
9858 KOR
79439 INR
142889 JPY

1001 USD vs 999 USD plus, 100 out of 100 people should get the pro max 13 lol xd

No one likes price increases. Its all about worth, is that phone worth it to you (and can you afford it)? I was going to upgrade, but then saw the phone and was like meh (I have an 11 Pro, would have gone 256 14 Pro) if it had USBC then yeah more likely. But I chose to skip again. Can I afford it, yes, is it worth that to me? No. However I did order an upgrade for a family member, they are on a XR and I got the base 14, because thats all they need and use it for. Another 3/4yrs for them. I might just get my battery replaced instead for now.

While your statements are true to an extent, upgrade cycle times have gradually increased over the years and it appears they have also been plateauing more recently.

Aside from other factors, this makes sense from the technical point of view, since SoCs and feature set have progressed to the level that many people don't really care as much about upgrades. I personally could use an iPhone XS Max as my full time phone no problem.
I've got a regular XS in my pocket right now. Replaced battery and great phone.

I look forward to the point where upgrade cycles regularly go out to four years and the phones have lifecycles like laptops. That should really be Apple's goal. And then charge a premium for that longer useful life.

The price hike this year is enormous, it's +250 EUR more for the same model you'd get last year, maybe that's why the pre-orders are low. Diluting the line-up with even more products is also a bad idea considering you can get a 13 Pro Max for 1,000 EUR if you want to go with a bigger form factor.

I would 100% upgrade to an iPhone 14 Pro mini if it existed. I would gladly pay $999 for it even if they had to charge extra for the additional R&D needed. I would also not even be mad about them taking the SIM card tray away for that model if they needed to do it to make all the components fit.

Very disappointed in apple forcing US users to have to go with a device that doesn’t have the sim tray that other countries do get.

I was actually most interested to see what the 14 mini was going to be like this Apple Event. It’s no surprise the plus is failing, the mini was more popular. It’s just a segment of people that upgrade less frequently. People who buy smaller phones tends to also be people who use their phones less on average.

I also think in many cultures, people like to show they have the latest and greatest. This is one of those times where it’s obvious from the notch which phone you have.

When I look at the currently available standard size iPhones: 12, 13, 14, 14 Pro, and compare features and prices, as much as I'd like the 14 Pro, the price is just insanity. So I end up just thinking, well, the 12 actually looks just fine. There's so much little extra in the higher priced models. The one single biggest thing I want in the 14 Pro, is the Space Black colour. But the price of that nice colour! The 14 is just a rip off price increase with last year's features. And the 12 and 13 are old models. Meh, I'll just stick with my SE2 after all. You can go jump off a bridge little Timmy.

The iPhone 1 debuted at $599 the iPhone 14 debuted at $799. $200 over 15 years is not “going up and up and up.”

Technology is getting cheaper as time progresses. Apple can increase some prices because they address markets and user requirements that no other company addresses. So it's getting even more expensive than it looks as the hardware costs are supposed to go down.

But a product consists of more than just the hardware costs. As it happened to computers, the usable lifetime of a mobile device has become longer and longer and so more development and other costs have to be priced in.

I also think in many cultures, people like to show they have the latest and greatest. This is one of those times where it’s obvious from the notch which phone you have.

Yep. Those living paycheck to paycheck have much to prove. It starts with what kind of smartphone you have. Lol
