Serious question, what does the aging eyes have to do with it? The oldest coworker I have is 67 and he uses a 13 Mini, with the text size increased.

I'm 44, so not young, but I don't need any lenses at the moment for anything other than driving, and can read tiny text just fine...or I could just increase the text size if need be.
Text is larger naturally, so I don’t need to increase text size, but it if I wanted to I could do the pinch zoom but don’t need to.

Large phones are also nicer for Uber/Lyft/GrubHub/DoorDash with the phone on a car mount further away from your face

I‘m curious how the sales numbers distribution between the 15 Pro Max and smaller 15 Pro, which feature-wise are differentiated by the tetra prism camera, compares to that of iPhone generations where the larger and smaller model have identical features other than screen size and battery life (eg. 14 PM / P?). Ie. I’m curious to actually see how much general consumers care about having all the features vs having the size they prefer. (Maybe it also depends on the specific feature/s.)

Having gone 8 Plus > 11 Pro Max > 14 Pro [not Max] > 15 Pro Max, the 14 Pro was by far the worst device.
The 15 Pro Max is worthy of the Pro moniker - battery back to solid (it sat around all day from 7a > 9p - battery saver off - and was 93%; my 14 Pro would have been dead).
The lighter weight, smaller bezels, and general feel make it seem closer in size to the 12/13/14 Pro.
And WiFi + cellular speeds are super fast.
As an aside, my wife has a 13 Pro [not max] and it's pretty good, but the battery needs replacement after 2.33 years.

Why was (is?) the MacBook Air the best-selling Mac then when people can always buy one of many Pro models instead? I'm honestly surprised that it's not the base 15 model. (Sent from my second hand 13 mini 👑)
My guess is a laptop isn’t as important to most people as a phone, so they don’t feel the need to have the best (laptop). A phone on the other hand is almost an extension of the body for many, both in function and image, so a larger portion of people probably want the “best”.

Since there are only two sizes of iPhone 15, I read this to mean that the regular size is the best selling model.
There are 4 variations of the iPhone 15.

15 Pro Max can still have under 50% of iPhone 15 sales and be the best selling 15 version.

Maybe I’m not so smart, but I don’t find it so obvious that the most expensive out of the 4 latest models is the best selling one.
Many reasons. Luxury good vs. inferior good.
What is the best selling Mercedes-Benz? The GLE and GLC, not the A-class nor the CLA.

Simple economics, especially considering the Apple (iPhone) demographic.
You want cheap? You go with Android.

*OR* You go with an older Apple model - Apple and its partners still sell the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 13, and SE. And refurbished/remanufactured phones still sell well.

So, yes, it makes perfect sense.

Haha, I only read about Apple stuff on MR, so I honestly forgot that the non-pro iPhone models even exist! I had to visit the Apple website just now in response to this reply, and LOL there are the two I forgot about.

Everything makes perfect sense if you can break it down and explain it, but that doesn't mean it's "obvious" as AlexESP said, which I agree with. In other words, the information in this article has worth, just as your explanation does. But also is it a given that the most expensive model of even a luxury brand will be the best-selling or is it just more often than not? Also people debate whether or not Apple is a luxury brand. One of the main reasons I think maybe not is if they could be easily considered a luxury brand, could so much governmental pressures be placed on them?

There are many things to unpack here.

But bringing us back to the iPhone sales. The Pro models - for the past two years at least - have full new specs (new processors, three cameras, etc.). This is "worth" the upgrade. ALSO people might be addicted to upgrading every year, so the "full price" doesn't really matter - people spend "half price" to do it. (I'm not including the dopes who get a 3-year installment plan, then try to beg and plead their way out of it early - of which there are many).

Functionality wise, the Max has even a larger screen and 5x zoom, along with capturing/filming in ProRES and ProRAW - PLUS depth-ready media for the Vision Pro. Improved battery is a big deal. Screen size not so much.

I would *never, ever* buy a "regular size" (smaller) Pro again. Plus? yes. Pro Max? Yes. "Regular size" iPhone? Yes.

But the reduced (r-slang) CPU specs of the normal iPhone pushed me to the Pro... Max.

Yes, Apple is a luxury brand. People on food stamps aren't running out to buy $1000+ phones.

Using that logic the iphone 1 SSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
That's not true at all. The basis of the additional "S"s in the comment you quoted is based on the precedent established with the 3GS, the 4S, 5S, 6S, and XS. So it would have no basis at all to call any iPhone the iPhone 1 S-however-many-times because the pattern can't be established until at least the 3GS.

Additionally, there has been no major design changed since the 12, and historically that meant the model would be getting an S moniker and not a full new generation name. Granted, the 7 was pretty similar to the 6S and the 8 was even more similar to the 7. I would presume that if you hold the opinion that the 15 is a 12SSS and the 16 will be a 12SSSS then you probably also think that the 7 is really a 6SS and the 8 is really a 6SSS.

But the entire point of saying that it is a 12SSSS is to compare the lack of development in design vs past precedent.

So you've not applied the same logic at all.

Where do you get this stat from? Because I recently saw numbers which showed that the MBP line are selling more than the MBA.
I've looked for recent numbers, but I've only found the CIRP numbers which I think you're referring to as well, and where the MacBook Pro is #1. I don't really buy their finding that the Mac Pro is as popular as the iMac, though, so maybe they're counting dollars and not units?
Apple has recently called the Air the most popular model, even in the Google results from five minutes ago:

It probably also depends on the time frame, the M1 Air was (is) a particularly fantastic computer for the money.

A lot of Pro Max devices are being sold! Love my 15 Pro Max. Wonderful device.

how are people carrying these giant, heavy slabs around all day long?
It's funny how this forum can simultaneously hype up folding phones as the next big thing despite them being thicker and heavier than the biggest smartphone that Apple sells, while criticising the pro max iPhone models as being too big and heavy.

Don’t really agree. The form factor of the 15pm is not exactly the same as the 14pm, therefore at least in my mind the 15pm starts the clock.

But the “S” moniker was to indicate some improvement over the previous years. Since some posters like to be sardonic they indicate “sssssss”. So to me either it’s the iPhone 15sssssssssssssss, or the iPhone 15 starts the clock again due to different dimensions.
