It's funny how this forum can simultaneously hype up folding phones as the next big thing despite them being thicker and heavier than the biggest smartphone that Apple sells, while criticising the pro max iPhone models as being too big and heavy.

Almost as if different people have different opinions.

Apple has recently called the Air the most popular model, even in the Google results from five minutes ago:

It probably also depends on the time frame, the M1 Air was (is) a particularly fantastic computer for the money.

Yes and at WWDC23, the SVP of Hardware Engineering referred to the MacBook Air as the "most loved Mac" and the "world's best-selling laptop."

Don’t really agree. The form factor of the 15pm is not exactly the same as the 14pm, therefore at least in my mind the 15pm starts the clock.

But the “S” moniker was to indicate some improvement over the previous years. Since some posters like to be sardonic they indicate “sssssss”. So to me either it’s the iPhone 15sssssssssssssss, or the iPhone 15 starts the clock again due to different dimensions.
The 6s was .01" thicker than the 6. Of course the S moniker means there is improvement, the question is more about the design or perhaps how much improvement. I don't think anyone thinks the 13 wasn't an improvement over the 12, or that the 14 wasn't an improvement over the 13 etc.

Obviously Apple has stopped using the S moniker, I don't think it is coming back.

I agree. But for those who sardonically refer to the iPhone 15 as the iPhone 12ssssss, I was saying the 15pm isnt the same dimensions as prior models and really wasn’t an “s” model.

Anyway all in good nature.

Many reasons. Luxury good vs. inferior good.
What is the best selling Mercedes-Benz? The GLE and GLC, not the A-class nor the CLA.

Simple economics, especially considering the Apple (iPhone) demographic.
You want cheap? You go with Android.

*OR* You go with an older Apple model - Apple and its partners still sell the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 13, and SE. And refurbished/remanufactured phones still sell well.

So, yes, it makes perfect sense.
I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense, I agree (although Apple’s case is more extreme than Mercedes’, and way more than Porsche). I’m just against the classical sarcastic comment dismissing interesting data. As much as your argument makes sense, and I would have bet the Pro Max was the best selling model, it wouldn’t be crazy at all that it was the standard 15 instead.

I'm actually surprised that the 15PM is the best selling phone out of the 4 models. I would've thought it was the 15 Non-Pro... Does anyone know if this has generally been the case with each generation the last 3 years, or is it specific to the 15s?

Also, FWIW, I've been a "Pro" user (or non-large size user) all the way through (1, 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S, X, 12 Pro, 13 Pro). For the first time, I went with the 15 Pro Max. Biggest thing for me was weight - the 12/13/14 Pro Maxes always seemed really too heavy to be comfortable for me. The 15PM and the change to Titanium (and also the whole "moment of inertia" stuff... https://www.macrumors.com/2023/09/17/iphone-15-pro-likely-feels-lighter-than-it-really/) passed whatever subjective "tipping point" for me where it doesn't feel "too heavy". And the added size of screen for me as my primary device feels worth it.

Also, +1 to others as an avg-sized guy in his 40s who wears jeans / slacks to the office every day, I haven't had any issues with pocketability. I use my 15PM caseless, and typically put it either in my back pocket when walking, or front pocket when sitting. No issues.

I made an epic mistake going "normal size" 14 Pro - but the battery was rubbish from the start.
Gave to daughter. Replacement battery on Monday - and was dead as a doorstop when I picked it up (ominous?).

15 Pro Max battery - with battery optimized - is great (or good).
Bigger screen? Meh. But for me it FEELS lighter than my old 14 Pro - and my wife's 13 Pro.
