I'm envy those of you who haven't had their charging stop while using CarPlay, experiencing extreme heat under normal use, and abysmal battery life with the 15P. Maybe it's me, but I'm definitely considering returning it. I love the design, just wish it was more efficient.

A modest proposal from a complete ignoramus when it comes to phone internals: issue an update that allows users, preferably at the flip of a virtual switch, to choose between high (and hot!) performance and cooler operation with extended battery life (which the 3 nm chip should be capable of). Have been eying the 15 Pro for USB-C, the cameras and a few other features but not now or ever for, say, gaming. Longer battery life would seal the deal for me but that, amazingly, doesn't appear to be an Apple priority.

If I was Apple, I would’ve dismissed this proposal cause you’re not giving enough info to even warrant this feature. Like what is the root cause of heating? Is it really due to internals or due to people’s behavior on how they are using the device? Like using a MacBook 96W adapter to charge the iPhone while running intensive programs? If charging while using the device is the issue, then adjust the battery charging controller to draw lower watts when device is being actively used then increase watts when device is idle. The main question is are you doing on the device when it is heating up.

a lot of online reviews point out that CPU usage spikes when you switch apps. I rarely switch between apps all the time so i think overheating maybe ymmv

So Apple is trying to make them thin and light again, after a few generations of thicker and heavier precisely because making them too thin and light resulted in problems like reduced battery life and durability.

Would be great if Apple could act like it doesn't have memory loss and stay consistent / learn from mistakes. My favorite was when a 13-year-old mistake was repeated with the release of the 2013 Mac Pro, and it went exactly the way anyone who was familiar with the G4 Cube expected.
It's literally thicker

The new 3nm CPU should run cooler, so less dissipation was supposed to be required. Something in that logic was a huge assumption and now 15pro will be slower and dim sooner than 14pros!!!!. This deserves a class action in my opinion!. A product that can’t perform as advertised.

Being having overheating and battery drain issues with the iPhone 15 pro max when making cellular phone calls. The phone gets super hot and the battery depletes rapidly. Yesterday I made a phone call and 25 minutes into the phone call, the battery was down to 84%(from 100%) and the phone was burning hot. I called Apple support they ran a diagnostic test and said that the battery was full capacity. Hence is a new phone. I kept telling them that it could be a software problem, but they kept saying that I could take the phone to the Apple Store and that I could get a replacement, but of course they don’t have any replacements available so I guess we will have to wait for an update. After spending 30 mins with them, the battery was down to 62%. But overall, that’s the only part where I have experience an overheating & a battery drain of the device. When making phone calls over WiFi calling, the phone does not overheats nor the battery depletes so rapidly. It just behaves normal. There has to be a problem software wise with cellular and phone calls because the problem does not replicates when browsing the web or using apps while on cellular. Is only making phone calls.

I am never gonna play games on this, I came from a 13 pro that was ok speed wise.

I would like to see an efficeny setting. Make the CPUs as efficent as possible.

I feel like if I use my 15 pro, the battery is draining super fast.

What do I give up going to a 15? I know the 120 Hz screen and a camera lens.

My 13 pro sucked at phone calls. The 15 pro is way better, people can clearly hear me and its not dropping calls.

So is the 5G antenna better than the 15?

Well this is awkward.

I have monthly installments for my 15 Pro Max. If there are issues I will just trade it in for the next one and start over.

For those with the terrible heat issues, did you start fresh or from a back up? Have you tried starting fresh? Maybe some rogue process since not everybody is complaining about the problem

Pro 15 here - no real issues, once or twice, it's gotten warm, but both times, I was on a call and uploading large files to iCloud in the background. As a test, I let it sit and record 4K 30FPS to an external SSD for 15 minutes without an issue. The one thing that is definitely true is that the titanium band will dissipate less heat than the stainless steel, so the face and back of the device will feel warmer. A human holding a stainless steel band is actually a really good heat sink compared to the face of the phone - even in that case the SS band will feel cooler since you are part of the heat sink equation..

Everything from the 12 series on is capable of running warm or hot. I had an issue going to the 14 Pro, but I had done a transfer. It's very easy to just do a transfer, but after I reset and just set up the phone as new, my warming issues went away. If you have years worth of use from your backup or transfers between upgrades, it may be worth just starting fresh.

Other than when I was setting up the phone by restoring from a backup, my iphone 15 pro hasn't heated up at all.

Any possibility it's the OS and not the hardware? My 12 Pro Max has been running very hot since updating to iOS 17.

Using a 13 ProMax and iPad Pro 11 g4 - I have been experiencing high heat when doing basic stuff sporadically throughout iOS17. IMO the software is either the cause or at minimum adds to the issue.

My max temp was almost 105F.

This is unacceptable from Apple the last year‘s phone does the same they need cooling systems in their phones how do they expect to AAA game when they can’t handle small loads for $1 trillion company this is unacceptable. What’s gonna happen now is there just gonna underclock the chip and lower the performance to get away with it?
That’s what I wish they had done in the first place to be honest. There’s no need for 3.78Ghz P cores.
