I COULD NOT TAKE THE HEAT IT WAS PRODUCING SINCE DELIVERY ON FRIDAY. I RETURNED IT TODAY. THE GUY at APPLE BATTERSEA STORE DID NOT GIVE A FLYING F* WHEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT THIS. HIS RESPONSE WAS FUNDS WILL GO BACK THE CARD USED. GLAD I KEPT MY 13PRO GREEN.
Looks like your 13 Pro (or whatever device you posted from) has a caps lock problem.

This is most likely a rogue process that’s running at 100% CPU when it shouldn’t. They will fix it with a software update, and no that doesn’t mean throttling.
Very good point. For people with heat issues, look at your analytics, I bet you'll see entries related to 100% CPU utilization.

Had no idea Kuo is an expert in thermodynamics in addition to his supply chain expertise.

And this is why Apple should just have stuck with aluminum even for the pro phones.

Were you expecting him to re-engineer it for you?

Almost like Samsung mobile temperatures
I kid you not, I literally had to put my phone in the freezer for like two minutes before proceeding to charge, since a message popped up saying it refuses to unless I cool the ****ing thing down.

not surprising. I want to see recording limits on prores 4k 60 recording in a temperature controlled room. I'll be impressed if it lasts over an hour.

As an iPhone 15 Pro max user thus far I’ve only had it run hot once and that’s while it was transferring data from my 12 and downloading apps and syncing to my Apple Watch at the same time. That kind of load I’d think it would run warm at least. Other than that it’s been cool.
Same. I haven’t had any heat issues with my 15 Pro Max after it finished downloading all of my apps and data. Since then it hasn’t been warm at all.

This is so over exaggerated that it’s downright laughable. Sure, I noticed that the phone was warm to the touch before I put the case on it but once I put my Apple silicone case on my phone it feels normal and I don’t feel a thing. I love the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s so fast and takes great photos.

my iPhone 15 pro max has been fine. Battery is good. Doesn’t get as warm as my iPhone 14 pro max did. It did get warm when taking a few photos. Maybe it’s time Apple puts a fan in there phones 😆

Perhaps use that smart sarcasm on your mother.
Where do you think I got it from? But seriously, that employee has absolutely no control over the design, manufacturing, distribution, or quality of the product, but your post implies you were expecting a retail employee to do something other than their job, which is to facilitate a transaction for you. They aren't paid to 'give a flying f***'.

When I was setting up my phone and transferring my 12PM backup from my Mac, my 15 Pro Max got so hot that it showed a prompt that charging was on hold until temps returned to normal.

Also when charging my phone does get quite warm. Nothing uncomfortable tho, but noticeably warm.

A software update will most likely alleviate any heat issues. I read similar complaints last year with the 14 Pro, and this was rectified shortly. I didn’t have any issues with mine, but it could have been because I set up my device as new and keep it simple. My 14 Pro Max battery is still at 100%. I do slow charge and don’t leave it plugged in all of the time at 100% — not sure how much that contributes to it.

It all makes sense now. The 80% battery charging limit. Overheating iPhone affects battery life health especially those made by recycled materials which performs worse than new.

Thanks for sharing this. I've one arriving today. It's good to know an actual user experience. A lot of the murmuring here seems to be based on people jumping to conclusions.

So, it looks like we have issues with the latest 2 generations of the iPhone Pros:
  • 14 Pro/Pro Max - battery health issues
  • 15 Pro/Pro Max - overheating issues
Apple in trouble?

My launch day 14 Pro Max is still reporting 100% health, optimised charging is always off and its only been charged wirelessly, so no issues here.
