for some reason apple is bad at designing thermal solutions to their products. i wonder if this is another one of htose "users don't care" examples

To have Kuo make a comment is stark. Kuo is some what well soruced and to say they can not fix it is not good. So they have chips they accepted they should not have accepted so it is a chip lottery, so they will do a silent recall where they tell you to bring in your phone if it is doing this and just replace yours with a binned unit and silently make it go away over a few months.... great work apple..... not
Heat Gate 2023 :)

So, it looks like we have issues with the latest 2 generations of the iPhone Pros:
  • 14 Pro/Pro Max - battery health issues
  • 15 Pro/Pro Max - overheating issues
Apple in trouble?
No, Apple isn't "in trouble."

Literally every iPhone has had "issues" you could list here, since the first gen. A small subset of people with a bad batch. My 14 Pro Max battery life was at 88% as of last week, and my partner's has 97%. We got them the same day. it doesn't mean the entire lineup is garbage or that Apple Is Doomed (TM).

Steve Jobs would roll over in his grave.
Right, Steve Jobs never launched a complete failure of a product. For example, he would have never launched The Apple III. The Lisa. The Moto ROCKR iTunes phone collaboration. The Powermac g4 cube. The Hockey Puck mouse. MobileMe. /sarcasm

So is it both the pro and pro max or just the pro? As others said, my pro max was a little bit warm during initial setup from my iPhone 12 but since then has been fine with my normal use.

I would just ignore the classic “Steve Jobs this and Steve Jobs that” it’s just trolling at this point.

the only thing i find funny here is there are multiple iterations of macbook pros that got too hot and complaints.

I felt the heat on the 15 Pro Max when I was playing with it at the Apple store. I wasn't playing a game, just trying different apps and the camera. It was normal when I picked it up, it wasn't already warm from charging.

We obviously don't know what the real issue is, but it seems that at least in part it might be iOS-related. I have never had any issues with any iPhones over the years, but this year, after installing the 16.5.1 update on my 13 Pro Max, the battery life took a noticeable hit and the heat issues started, too.

My pics posted in the other user report thread. I wish I could return my phone, but the Apple Store in my country does not have return policy.

I would rather apple fix the poor cellular connectivity issues first rather than the heat problems

As an iPhone 15 Pro max user thus far I’ve only had it run hot once and that’s while it was transferring data from my 12 and downloading apps and syncing to my Apple Watch at the same time. That kind of load I’d think it would run warm at least. Other than that it’s been cool.
Same for me. I’m on the iPhone upgrade program so I’ll be keeping mine and sending back the 14. I love how much lighter and more comfortable it feels in the hand compared to the 14 pro max which was built like a brick

I COULD NOT TAKE THE HEAT IT WAS PRODUCING SINCE DELIVERY ON FRIDAY. I RETURNED IT TODAY. THE GUY at APPLE BATTERSEA STORE DID NOT GIVE A FLYING F* WHEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT THIS. HIS RESPONSE WAS FUNDS WILL GO BACK THE CARD USED. GLAD I KEPT MY 13PRO GREEN.

Apple is calling these things phones, but they are also high performance gaming rigs, which typically require a heat sink and fan on the GPU. Razer sells one:
If you use your iPhone hard in a setting where it overheats (car dashboard under the sun, etc.) use a fan.

We have two new 15 Pro Maxes in this house. The Unindicted Co-Conspirator’s paused charging due to heat during the installation Restore from iCloud process. It hasn’t been warm since. I restored from my prior phone and have not experienced any undue warmth.

So let’s not slap a “-gate” suffix on this just yet.

LOL i can't tell if this is sarcasm or not but what did you expect the guy at applestore to say?

So Apple is trying to make them thin and light again, after a few generations of thicker and heavier precisely because making them too thin and light resulted in problems like reduced battery life and durability.

Would be great if Apple could act like it doesn't have memory loss and stay consistent / learn from mistakes. My favorite was when a 13-year-old mistake was repeated with the release of the 2013 Mac Pro, and it went exactly the way anyone who was familiar with the G4 Cube expected.

Is it actually hot or are people just talking about heat from indexing/new phone stuff? I know that some testing of AAA console games sideloaded onto the device also made headlines about heat but I can't imagine that is indicative of actual day to day use. My 14 Pro and 13 Pro were "hot" for the first week or so too.
in another thread people are claiming they overheat just talking on the phone or charging, starting from a cool state. People are posting thermal imaging pics of their phones looking crazy hot

Did a complete data transfer from my 13 Pro and the new 15 Pro was just slightly warm but nothing to worry about.
Made some camera tests yesterday and it was again all fine.
No issues so far.

Further updates with optimisations and a bit more throttling are going to help for sure.

Perhaps, thanks for letting us know. I am happy to input in the return a note of this maybe the team can investigate. Or I am sorry you experienced this. Empathy really. Not after anything more.
