Boy did some tech influencers really get over their skis on this thing yesterday. It’s two years away and appears to be in a form factor that has already failed. Sure, it might work, but it’s amazing to see all the people who bash Apple for foolishly hyping features not ready to ship dropping to their knees like shipwrecked sailors ready to drink seawater for a nonexistent product just because they’re bored with the current state of tech hardware.
It’s not the same thing. Apple didn’t hype their AI, they lied to the customers because it didn’t exist at all.

I didn’t know I wanted an iPhone until they made one. I knew I wanted one after they showed me what it could do.

Is there one solid statement yet about any real thing this new gizmo does?

I knew I was gonna get one before the announcement. Bought two of them as the wife wanted one too.

This totally contradicts your previous article yesterday which stated that the device would launch later this year and would not be a wearable.

Likewise I would buy Apple Vision Pro if it has 8 hour battery life and the weight problem was fixed and price at $1,000 or less.

Has now Apple Vision Pro is just to bulky and heavy with 20 minutes at the most and the head and neck gets sore.

Say what you want but this sounds far more exciting than yet another iPhone that looks like last years iPhone, only thinner.

Jony Ive: “So it’s a neck worn version of the miserably failed Humane Pin.”

Sam Altman: “Cool. How much do you want for your company.”

Jony Ive: “uhhh…how about…$6.5 billion dollars?”

Sam Altman: “Seems steep…but whadda I care? It’s not my money anyway. I’m not making any money! Am I right ?”

Jony and Sam together: LOL !!

This doesn't exist right now either, at least outside of a lab. $6.5B riding mostly on reputation is peak-AI hype bubble.

What happen to eyeglasses they are working on? Does it not have those features?
Apple? Yeah unfortunately they are rumored to be making something like Meta’s glasses, but I hope not. I’m against any wearable cameras that make it very easy to inconspicuously record someone without their realization, including and maybe especially camera glasses. I also don’t want the possibility of a company seeing everything I see.

The only AI devices that make sense in addition to everyone having a smartphone and smartwatch already are AI glasses, that's it.

Any sort of jewelry or pendants or pins are DOA. Whoever is first to nail down the glasses concept perfectly will be victorious. As of right now, there's nothing mainstream or anything I see in public in any significant capacity. Yet.

More ejunk!

Gaaaawd, who asked for this?...I have a watch, phone, laptop..I don't need an Ai neclace 👍

The big news in the technology world this week is that ChatGPT maker OpenAI is working more closely with Apple's former design chief Jony Ive on a futuristic AI device. The company is remaining tight lipped about the device, but Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared some alleged details about its design.

In a social media post today, Kuo said the device will be "slightly larger" than Humane's discontinued AI Pin. He said the device will look "as compact and elegant as an iPod Shuffle," which was Apple's lowest-priced, screen-less iPod. The design of the iPod shuffle varied over the years, going from a compact rectangle to a square.

Like the iPod shuffle, Kuo said OpenAI's device will not have a screen, but it would connect to smartphones and computers. The device will be equipped with microphones for voice control, and it will have cameras that can analyze the user's surroundings.

He said that users will be able to wear the device around their necks, like a necklace, whereas the AI Pin can be attached to clothing with a clip.

Kuo expects OpenAI's device to enter mass production in 2027, and the final design and specifications might change before then.

It remains to be seen if the device will be a success, or if it will go the way of the AI Pin and other attempts at going beyond the smartphone. OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman is certainly confident, as he has tested the device at home and believes it will be "the coolest piece of technology that the world will have ever seen." Quite the claim.

Thanks, I'm good.

Kinda funny how we used to worry about mass surveillance being thrust upon us by the powers that be, and now we buy it with our own money and willingly bring it with us everywhere.

That's how I felt with everyone installing a Ring camera at their house, and then the news of many Police jurisdictions who could access the footage.

Folks helped build a dragnet

I don’t want to have to talk out-loud to it. I only ever talk out-loud to voice assistants when I’m at home on my own. Rest of the time, I want to type at which point I’d need to get out my phone, which then defeats the purpose of having a supposed AI necklace.

I’m not writing it off but as an initial reaction, this is something I think is gonna be an issue for a lot of people.

Thinking out loud for a moment, I guess I do wonder if people felt the same about talking into the first ever brick-sized mobile phones. At least they were talking to an actual person on the other side.
You won’t have to. Remember, it is an AI device and it will be able to read your thoughts.

Indeed! it is like promoting the evolution of the human drone. The iPod shuffle was an enrichment, the IveSam shuffle is an intrusion …

Aaaaaand nope. I’m sorry, I just can’t see any tech working mainstream that immediately labels you as an invasive tech nerd to other people. Even if it sounds potentially exciting.
Is this post from the late-2016 AirPods introduction thread?

Likely other ways it will gather data, always on listening to summarize your conversations throughout the day/week. Various sensors etc… but with no camera this device seems limited - what can it do hardware wise that we won’t be getting from a phone or watch? And with always on features that seems like a fairly big privacy issue
