I didn’t know I wanted an iPhone until they made one. I knew I wanted one after they showed me what it could do.

Is there one solid statement yet about any real thing this new gizmo does?
What could this actually do though hardware wise that isn’t accomplished with a phone or watch? The only argument that I could think of is an always-on camera that is around neck or head height. Seems like a big battery issue though. Although apple has really dropped the ball with AI integration through Siri

Out side of watches and wedding rings, Lots of people don’t like wearing jewellery so I think if it’s a wearable it would be limiting your market. Id say glasses would be next best over something on clothes on necklace.

so kinda like Apple Neckless I suppose, with direct connection to OpenAi ChatGPT App, that's a great idea and I wish Jony Ive still be at apple and this have been an apple product that is connected to the ecosystem like AirPods are where you move through devices the neckless "moves with you"

Looking forward, it’s exciting … let’s just see what it is, why we need it etc.

A screenless device just is not appealing to me. I have enough trouble with Siri as is.

I need to be able to have conversations that don’t involve me stating my personal business out loud, and that requires me to have my phone, making this device pointless.

Thing is... you're used to Siri. Siri is useless. Always was. Always will be.

The big news in the technology world this week is that ChatGPT maker OpenAI is working more closely with Apple's former design chief Jony Ive on a futuristic AI device. The company is remaining tight lipped about the device, but Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared some alleged details about its design.

In a social media post today, Kuo said the device will be "slightly larger" than Humane's discontinued AI Pin. He said the device will look "as compact and elegant as an iPod Shuffle," which was Apple's lowest-priced, screen-less iPod. The design of the iPod shuffle varied over the years, going from a compact rectangle to a square.

Like the iPod shuffle, Kuo said OpenAI's device will not have a screen, but it would connect to smartphones and computers. The device will be equipped with microphones for voice control, and it will have cameras that can analyze the user's surroundings.

He said that users will be able to wear the device around their necks, like a necklace, whereas the AI Pin can be attached to clothing with a clip.

Kuo expects OpenAI's device to enter mass production in 2027, and the final design and specifications might change before then.

It remains to be seen if the device will be a success, or if it will go the way of the AI Pin and other attempts at going beyond the smartphone. OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman is certainly confident, as he has tested the device at home and believes it will be "the coolest piece of technology that the world will have ever seen." Quite the claim.

I expect it to be a massive data hoover.

I'm here just to read the ******** of the macrumors fans, those that if Ive thinks something is necessarily wrong, while if Apple does it, Cook's Apple, not Jobs's Apple, it's right regardless, because it makes us earn a lot of good money with speculation and knows how to make Microsoft products better than Microsoft!

A screenless device just is not appealing to me. I have enough trouble with Siri as is.

Exactly, horrible voice assistants like Siri and Mercedes MBUX make me never want to use voice commands again.

And I’m definitely not going to wear a spy cam and mic around my neck.

I’m sure Johnny has something else in mind.

The thing about Johnny Ive is that he was only a genius within the context of Apple and Steve Jobs. When you take him out of that environment, he flails. Jobs was not only a strong supporter of design but also a powerful force in filtering and refining ideas. Together, they created a feedback loop that elevated Ive’s design instincts into globally iconic products.

I read the article thoroughly two times.

Summary: There are no facts and no one knows what even the concept for its function and use it let alone anything factual regarding this.

We will have to listen to media head speculation about this for two years?

A: "Slow news day? "

B:"Yes, but let's run something on Ive's imaginary AI device. It will liven things up. They'll eat it up and click away! Besides, we can milk this for at least two years"

A:"Great idea. Run with it"

Excellent recent Vergecast spends the first 40 minutes on Ive/Altman/io, especially the obstacles they face, chiefly the hardware limitations (miniaturization, power, distributed workload). The best point came from Nilay, who pointed out all of Apple’s successes had a specific new innovation at its core, such as the open Web or multitouch. What will be Open AI’s hardware innovation? TBD

correct me if wrong...but wouldn't ...eventually...Apple Intelligence on iPhone with more content/app/and surrounding awareness....just do what this thing wants to do?
It wouldn't. Apple had 15 years to do something since they bought Siri and all they've managed to do so far was to share some marketing mock-ups last year.

The real question to me is why is Jony thinking AI devices and Apple is not. Are Apple Execs so far behind in AI because of the bad blood they have with Nvidia? Does Apple plan to buy OpenAI? Funny how now Jony is more teamed up with Microsoft through this potential relationship/merger with OpenAI than Apple. In fact you have to wonder how much is the OpenAI offering for Jony from Microsoft.

Of course the guy that bought out the company is going to say it’s the coolest product the world has ever seen…

Pretty sure there was a kickstarter in the last year or two for a personal device that had AI built into as an assistant. It was hyped to be the greatest thing since sliced bread…it failed miserably. I don’t see this being any different

Reminds me of the AI pin. I wonder if anyone in the public will be interested in something like this
