we love you Jony but think you're desperate to recreate the high from inventing the modern smart phone. it solves basically all of the problems people had, communication, geolocation, and photography. i know we all couldn't really see the need for those things before they were shown to us, and it may be the same for whatever AI neck dongle you're whipping up, but i personally don't want a device constantly scanning every inch of me and every room i'm in just to tell me i haven't stood up in an hour. i don't want to talk out loud to a device, and i don't want it listening to me either.

the last real innovation I see for the iphone is hover detection. this would solve a major problem with mobile devices, that they only know where your focus is when you're physically touching it. with hover detection, your thumb would work more like a mouse cursor and the paradigm between desktop and mobile would shrink.

To build 100 million units, as Altman claims they will, you need to start sourcing components from now.
No you don’t. Do you think that Apple is starting to source components for the iPhone 19 already? That’ll sell way more than a 100 million times…

Boy have I got news for you on where medallions hanging around your neck are.
For some reason I had something like this in mind:

Incredible concern for humanity. While a number of people are varyingly abled or have limb differences, practically everyone has a neck.

This is literally display analyst Ross Young talking in 2023 about Apple's display roadmap four years out based on supply chain information/leaks. They might not make everything that far out, and some of the advancements are not coming out in the years as promised, but they are sourcing parts, securing production capacity, checking on overall feasibility, etc. OpenAI is 100% doing the same if they are looking to manufacture anything at scale in the next two years.

the highlighted they absolutely do, sourcing parts or components for the device? no, only for prototypes at this point.

Hmm Ive doesn’t want it to be a wearable, but it’s still a wearable. I guess he means not a wearable on the face or in plain sight. I like the idea that it might be able to be hidden under a shirt when not in use—it would need to be pretty flat and small though. The underlying problem with these wearable cameras for me though is that they’re wearable cameras. I don’t want a society where everyone is wearing a body cam at all times.

What happen to eyeglasses they are working on? Does it not have those features?

Not sure whether I would wear it around the neck. Would have preferred it to be in some other form. Think there will be a subscription service required for the device. Waiting to hear more about it in the months leading up to its launch.

This is yet another case of a person leaving Apple and thinking they're going to be just as important outside of Apple. Guess what, you're not. Also I'm a bit disturbed that Sam Altman gave Jony Ive credit for seemingly the entire MacBook and iPhone projects. You know he just chose the color, right?

Well, almost

Hence the "practically," though perhaps Ive and Altman have spared thoughts for even the fictional. In a spirit perhaps at odds with that of a rumours-based forum, I support waiting for the non-rumoured version of the product before passing judgment. (Please forgive me, rumours-based forum.)

Mr. T: Another necklace? I pity the foo who adds this!

And is Flava Flav ia a trend setter - his necklace told time long before it was fashionable!

Jony Ive finally realizes the perfect device: No headphone jack, no buttons, no ports, no screen, and mostly useless. A lot of folks on this site will love it!

A screenless device just is not appealing to me. I have enough trouble with Siri as is.

I need to be able to have conversations that don’t involve me stating my personal business out loud, and that requires me to have my phone, making this device pointless.
Using Siri as comparison is laughable
