I'm really wondering if there will be a small "color"-upgrade soon for the existing Mac Book Air. It was rumored some month ago and my daughter would love a purple Mac Book Air for school.
They now have a "BYOD"-policy (bring your own device) so any student has to bring his own notebook.
But school starts soon, she probably has no choice but the existing ones.
You could get a purple skin for an Air. They don't add any bulk and will protect the case from scratches.

I have serious doubts. Reason: mini LED displays are still expensive to make even before the chip shortage situation. I think a more likely scenario is a new MacBook Air coming in March 2022 with an updated standard LCD panel.

A mini-LED display is an upgraded LCD display.

There is speculation the M2 MacBook Air will be colourful like the M1 iMac.

This MacBook Air is Atleast 1 year away.

Thank god Kuo didn’t say it was the 💻 MacBook Pro 16” that’s coming next year. I almost had a heart attack.

Mr Kuo: Shed some light on an upcoming iPhone colors, please.
Seem like you are anticipating for the 16” Mac book pro…. 😀

Have a 2014 Air & can't wait to upgrade. Waiting for the Pro later this year but if it's too expensive, I will have to wait a bit longer I guess. Seems like we keep having to wait no matter what the product is...

Still holding on to my mid-2013 11" MacBook Air. I'm beginning to doubt that Apple will ever provide a form factor equivalent upgrade path for the 12" Powerbook/11" MacBook Air/12" MacBook users.

Hmmm, yet another year… This may be my next notebook. I have a 2017 12” MacBook that’s still doing fine for the most part, but getting slow by today’s standards. I will truly miss this form factor when i finally upgrade. Would be cool if someone would figure out how to retrofit one of these with Apple Silicon.

Yes, the air should be closer to 2lbs then the 3lbs mbp.

12" Macbook is an extraordinary piece of hardware. If they could get it up to 13.3 and keep it near 2lbs with Apple silicon it could succeed where the 12" didn't.

Oh, dear Apple, just make 13’ and 15’ MacBook (or 14’ and 16’) — with colors, white everything etc. Then of course 14’ and 16’ Pros. Then make a 800 gr. 12.5’ or 13’ Air and a 800$ MacBook SE with current Air design and M1.
Now those are some freakishly huge screen sizes for laptops. Try fitting one of those in your carry on bag.
🤣

Are you aware of burn-in and flickering (due to PWM) with OLED displays?
If we’re talking about displays from about 10 years ago sure, much has happened in the OLED world since then, new breakthroughs happen every month

Two 24" 4.5K screens (the .5 matters) may be pretty much ideal. There is no such thing, however, as a matching standalone screen for the M1 iMac.
I don't know why the .5K matters for you, so I'd like to hear. With resolutions so high and my eyes going so bad, I don't think I'll be able to see a difference between QHD on a 4K vs 4.5K screen. So if Apple would make a more pro 24" imac, I wouldn't hesitate to combine it with a second screen that's 4K. It would simplify my setup compared to a mac mini with 2 external screens.

Could you provide some references to these breakthroughs? As far as I know, burn-in is an inherent problem with OLED displays with no solution so far. Even Apple acknowledges it (https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT208191). And, flickering due to PWM has been observed even in the latest iPhones (https://spectrum.ieee.org/view-from...eo/the-iphone-12-mini-makes-me-sick-literally).

Mini-LED would be a downgrade if it has the blooming, border shadow, 1st gen reliability issues, image burn-in, etc. of the one in 2021 iPad Pro 12.9. I’d rather have OLED or at a minimum an IPS LCD with lower elevated black like the one from Surface Pro X.

New chip. Return of MagSafe and new colours. Will be a great laptop.
And, it’ll be thinner with a flat design like the new iPads and iPhones. The only change I find unappealing are the white keys (similar to those on the keyboard for the M1 iMac).

Where did you read about burn-in with the mini-LED display? And, how is it a downgrade from the LCD display already in use on all MacBook models so far? Could you provide details about how the display on the Surface Pro X is better?

In order from right to left at max brightness, elevated black on my MBA M1 is worst compared to Surface Pro X which which is perfectly acceptable (ignore reflection glow from light creeping under door) and OLED on Galaxy Tab S7+ which you can't tell it's there except for the small white dot.

Look up plasmonic OLED burn in

and some recent burn in tests on YouTube

PWM issue is news to me, never hear about such a problem

I can see a publication from last year. You were referring to other brands already adopting OLED displays and burn-in being an issue with displays from 10 years ago. I’m sure you know it takes years for something to make it from the lab to the market. Apple has acknowledged the issue as recently as April this year.

Micro-LED (the successor of mini-LED), on the other hand, has already been demonstrated for businesses and commercial applications (https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/19/22583204/samsung-the-wall-micro-led-display-business-commercial). Apple has already invested in this, but they are having issues with yields (https://www.macrumors.com/2020/08/10/apple-watch-to-adopt-microled-3-4-years).

The difference between the OLED and LCD is expected. But, the display on the MacBook looks abnormally bright. I’ll check mine.

By references, I meant if you have read something explaining what’s different about the technology Microsoft is using. I couldn’t find anything online. I could find multiple sources for mini-LED.
