Apple is planning a new 15-inch MacBook model that could launch around the second quarter of 2023 or later, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today.

In a tweet, Kuo said the notebook may be available with both M2 and M2 Pro chip options. Kuo previously claimed the new 15-inch model might not be branded as a MacBook Air, but he did not provide any further details about potential naming.

For the new 15-inch MacBook, configurations with the M2 chip would be bundled with Apple's new dual-port 35W power adapter, while configurations with the M2 Pro chip would ship with a more powerful 67W adapter, according to Kuo. These power adapters are already options for the new M2-powered MacBook Air launching next month.

Kuo also said he has not yet heard of any plans for the previously rumored 12-inch MacBook. Last week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple was considering launching a new 12-inch notebook at the end of 2023 or in early 2024. Gurman said it was unclear if the notebook would be a low-end MacBook or a higher-end MacBook Pro.

Over the last few weeks, rumors have surfaced about several new MacBook and iPad sizes planned for 2023 and beyond. Gurman recently reported that Apple was working on a new 15-inch MacBook Air, for example, which could end up being the machine that Kuo is referring to. As the devices get closer to launching, details should become clearer.

Is there any chance they could run an M2 Pro without a fan? If so, I can see this being a high end Air, though pricing would have to encroach on MBP territory.

Maybe it would just be the "MacBook" with a fan, no mini LED, no ProMotion, but not as small/light as the Air? 15-inch size would be a real crowd pleaser.

I wish Apple had released the M2 MacBook Air 15" this year.
SAME!
Would perfectly fit my current laptop needs.
Rocking a work-issue 15" MBP (Touch Bar). Great machine (and yes, I'm a Touch Bar fan).
My personal 15" MBP (mid-2014) is a bit long in the tooth (son is currently using for some Steam gaming). I just need something for light computing at this moment in time.

A 15” MacBook Air if done right could be a good replacement for the current oddball M2 13” MacBook Pro with Touchbar. Withholding Mini LED, extra ports and access to the M2 Max chips may help differentiate it from the regular MacBook Pro line. Making this a sort of MacBook Air “Pro” for people who don’t need an SD card, HDMI, HDR screen, etc.

They being said… PLEASE Apple don’t make the Mac lineup as confusing as the iPad lineup!

If this rumor is true, the lineup will be even more confusing and overlapping than it is now. I’m all about giving choice, but what purpose a M2 Pro chip will have in a MacBook Air?
a more affordable MacBook Pro. a M2 Pro on a new MacBook Air 15" has total sense, and it is a much better computer that 2018 and 2020 MacBook Pro was

They’re going to upgrade their standard laptop configurations with the new SOCs they’ve announced? I’ll believe that when I see it! Some rumors are just too far-fetched.

If this is the MacBook Air or MacBook (not MacBook Pro), then it doesn’t make any sense to offer a Pro cpu SKU. I’m sure they’ll distinguish MacBook Pro’s by offering Pro/Max options but not normal consumer devices.

In the M1 gen, a Mac was either an M1 or it was a big boy M1 Pro/Max/Ultra.

Looks like in the M2 we'll have a new "M2 or M2 Pro" category.
The MacMini is rumored to be M2 or M2 Pro.
The 15" MacBook Air is rumored to be M2 or M2 Pro.

It makes sense to have a thermal design that can handle an M2 or M2 Pro but not an M2 Max.

Will the 15" Air be able to handle an M2 Pro without introducing a fan?
