I assume we're talking 15" MBA here or are they bringing back MacBooks?
 Can we just stop this "MacBook" thing. All one needs to do is look at the current/new MacBook Air to know that there is no other product, with no other design, that's needed at this end of the line up.

For price point, the M1 MacBook Air exists. One day this new MacBook Air will slide into that price point most likely.

If this is the MacBook Air or MacBook (not MacBook Pro), then it doesn’t make any sense to offer a Pro cpu SKU. I’m sure they’ll distinguish MacBook Pro’s by offering Pro/Max options but not normal consumer devices.
I would tend to agree, but Apple marketing has made a few "doesn't mane sense" moves lately, including M-series chips (doesn't M stand for Mac?) in iPads, and overuse of "Pro."

This is what I predicted/thought many months ago...

~ $999 13” MBA (M1 maybe even $899, then back to $999 with M2)
~ $1299 13” MacBook in new form factor using M2
~ $1499 15” MacBook in new form factor using M2
~ $1999 14” MBP
~ $2299 16” MBP

So far they kept the Air name for the 13" Refresh and kept the previous Air too. It came in lower than what I thought, but I also thought they would move to 8/512 as the base.

I still think they are moving that way and will drop the 13" Pro when the 15" is ready. As for the name... who knows (or cares too much). Maybe they will keep the old Air form factor around a bit longer or maybe that is where a new 12" would slip in.

Apple is planning a new 15-inch MacBook model that could launch around the second quarter of 2023 or later...

Might as well say it could launch at some point in the future. That would cover all your bases.

I'd love to see one by the holidays though. The 13.6" MBA is nice, but I would prefer it to be just a tiny bit larger.

Is there any chance they could run an M2 Pro without a fan?
That's what I am wondering. Without a fan, wouldn't it be handicapped in its ability?

a more affordable MacBook Pro. a M2 Pro on a new MacBook Air 15" has total sense, and it is a much better computer that 2018 and 2020 MacBook Pro was
Wouldn't you need (want?) active cooling, which the MacBook Air doesn't have, to get the M2 Pro chip to run at its full potential? If the M2 Pro cannot run at full power, then there's no point in having it in a MBA.

It is highly doubtful that the future MacBook Air 15" will be equipped with a "Pro" chip.
It should be available with a M2 chip (the same as the one equipping the MacBook Air M2), but logically, the M2 Pro should be reserved for the MacBook Pro.

PLEASE Apple don’t make the Mac lineup as confusing as the iPad lineup!

Imagine if Apple went with an iPhone naming/modeling scheme 🤣

MacBook Air 13" (with M2)
MacBook Air Max 15" (with M2)
MacBook Air Pro Max 15" (with M2 Pro)

MacBook Pro SE 13" (with M2)
MacBook Pro 14" (with M2 Pro)
MacBook Pro Max 14" (with M2 Max)
MacBook Pro 16" (with M2 Pro)
MacBook Pro Max 16" (with M2 Max)

Maybe this is why the new MBA doesn't have any visible MBA labeling anywhere. They're probably considering re-branding it back to Macbook and returning to the 2 lines of 13/15 inch Macbook and 14/16 inch Macbook Pro.

I suppose it depends on how much marketing value/brand recognition the "Macbook Air" moniker has.

I would guess the current 13” MBP has its days numbered and the line-up would end up with a very straight forward 13” & 15” MBA and 14” & 16” MBP.

Now that the M2 supports 24GB RAM, there's no reason to want an M2-Pro in a thin and fanless 15" Air. As soon as you are doing anything that requires the M2-Pro it would heat up and throttle so you wouldn't get the M2-Pro's performance.

Apple needs to stick with the streamlined Small/Large MBA and Small/Large MBP.

Personally, I think Apple needs to do away with the "Air" moniker and just simply call the 13"/15" laptops "MacBook" and the 14"/16" laptops "MacBook Pro".

The "Air" moniker made sense when the laptops were tapered. Nowadays, it's harder to tell the difference between an MBA and MBP. I think Apple should keep it simple and distinguish between MB/MBP like they did in the late 2000s.

So we will presumably have a 13", 14", 15" and 16" MacBook Pro?
Worse would be if we had 13" & 15" with M2 and the 14" and 16" only be available with M1.
This is forecast for a year from now. There will be M2 Pro chips by then.

No reason to have 4 sizes of MBP. I'd be surprised at 2 sizes of Air, but they clearly can manage a ton of SKU's with the color/size combos of other products and not worry about being stuck with unsold product.

13/15 Air and 14/16 Pro would make a certain amount of sense. Not that it needs to align but the iPhone 14 lineup is looking similar - small/large non-pro and small/large pro versions are predicted.

Maybe we'll see a 13" iPad non-Pro model to round the lineup out. 10.5 / 13" iPad, 11/13 iPad Pro.
