I have this feeling the 13-inch MacBook Pro’s days are numbered. The new Air will be the new definitive 13-inch laptop as the new MBP will give Pro users the choice between 15” and 17” once again in Apple’s future lineup.

I think this new laptop will be the first with liquid display, so bigger screen in the current 15’’ form factor. This is why we have these weird display sizes, the form factor dictates the dimensions of the screen and not the other way around. But this liquid display technology seems to still be super expensive, so it will take time before it trickles down to the Air, Mac Book etc. especially if they want to include Face ID too, and they may want to if this redesign will include the removal of the Touch Bar, that hasn’t seen a lot of adoption by developers or enthusiasm from users. All of that to say that if this new 16-17” is a bezelsless 15”, we will eventually see a pro 14-14.5” with the dimensions of the current 13”.

That’s quite the change, 2 years??

These are rumors as they can be a bag of unicorn farts, but assuming it to be true. It would probably reflect Apple listening to the issues persisting on the 2018 that they thought they resolved. A gap of another 2 years would fall in line with the time to fully break down what is happening with the current generation and properly fix the issues. As the 2019 MBP would be coming out without time to address 2018 issues (assuming a redesign doesn't have its own batch of flaws if it were done).

I don't see Apple waiting until 2021, but they could possibly get away with a longer than normal gap due to the power available in the current 2018 MBP. If Apple is doing a redesign for the next MBP I would really like them to delay the 2019 to be a well designed machine without the issues that are harming the Apple brand right now. Although I have no issues I can't pretend that the issues others have pointed out regularly hasn't given me serious pause.

Additionally, if they do I'd like to see a longer repair program for these devices covering all major issues and not cherry picking. Meaning, cover FlexGate and the Keyboard issues or just extend the full warranty full stop for 5 or 6 years to regain the lost credibility.

Apple wants to be synonymous with luxury and the major differentiator of a luxury brand is supposed to be a combination of service and quality.

But I'd still say this is unlikely.

The 13” MacBook Pro is probably Apples best selling Mac by a country mile. For such a move to work, Apple would need to significantly reduce the cost to build and price points of the 15” model.
Not necessarily, they could build a mainstream 13 and 15 inch 'MacBook' using the sort of i7-8559U processor the current Pro uses, and go HAM with a larger $2,999-$3,999 starting price 'modular' MacBook Pro (meaning M.2 slot and RAM SO-DIMMS). I guess the biggest snag is they can make more money charging more for the same product with 'pro' stamped on it.

I am hoping that the touch bar will go back to being an option on the 15". For the love of god, kill that thing.
I'm wondering if most of the people complaining about it own a MacBook with the touch bar. I don't, but I just checked out a video of it. It looks helpful and cool. Does it not work as well as they show in the video??

My wallet is... well I’m sure it’ll be ready by then.

I don’t get too caught up in these predictions anymore. I’ve accepted that my 2015 MBP is all I need, that I’m set for this year and that the future is uncertain. Patience is key.

It looks pretty useful and serves its intended functions pretty well. It's also pretty customizable especially with bettertouchtool. But, the ergonomics just isn't there, especially for keys like escape and volume up/down. I'd love it if they brought back the top row of keys and put the Touch Bar on top of that.

They can't start working on that until they are finished screwing the pooch with the new MacPro.

I, for one would welcome a larger screen MacBookPro; I was really miffed when they discontinued the 17". They really are not that much bigger than the current 15"
