That's a fair point, since advertisers track our shopping history no matter what electronic device you use. However, I was referring to AirTags because they have been used to stalk humans' physical locations before, which is worse than an invasion of privacy because it can put a human being in physical danger.
I was being facetious to make a point but you got it. But I do believe the benefits (although minor are convenient and numerous for millions of users) outweigh the dangers (relatively rare and pulling AirTags off the market probably wouldn't change any behavior or the statistics).

People have been murdered with the help of AirTags. The dangers absolutely outweigh the benefits.

Here is one woman murdered with the help of an Apple AirTag:
"In January 2022, an Akron, Ohio woman was stalked by her ex-boyfriend, who
buried an AirTag in the back pocket of the passenger seat in her car. The stalker used the AirTag
to follow the woman and shoot her."

Here is another woman murdered with the help of an Apple AirTag:
"In June of 2022, an Indianapolis woman hid an AirTag in her boyfriend’s car,
followed him to a bar, and ran him over with her car, killing him at the scene."

Here is a man who was murdered with the help of an Apple AirTag:
"An Indiana woman tracked her boyfriend using an Apple AirTag device over a suspected affair; then after a dispute, ran him over and killed him."

Apple deserves all the legal trouble they've brought upon themselves.

Wouldn't that increase the price of the AirTags by quite a bit since Apple would have to include a charging case for them like the AirPods, unless they build in all the charging hardware/electronics (which would mean making the AirTags a little bigger in size)?

Then Apple would seal them up tight, making the battery non-user replaceable. Yah! Another disposable Apple product.
AirTag Pro? I would personally pay more for rechargeable battery, up to $49.

One change they need to do is make the coin batteries work better with those coins that have that stupid bitter coating, why should my devices not work with these types of batteries because parents can't keep batteries out of their kids reach.

Thankfully I can thoroughly wipe them down with an alcohol wipe to remove the bitter coating but it can sometimes still play up by giving me a low battery warning or not work whatsoever.

Will be interesting to see what changes they make. Making the guess they'll make it harder to use for tracking of your stuff and make the speaker impossible to disable on the new one.
Look at the VR body trackers just released by Sony. My assumption would be a higher resolution version of those.

Here’s a woman murdered by a soup spoon.

Here’s a woman murdered by a rock.

Here’s a woman murdered by a pillow.

Since one can very likely find any number of stories based on the searching for “murdered by ’x’”, that metric has a fairly small bearing on how the dangers actually weigh against the benefits. Especially considering how many stories would come up for deaths related to dihydrogen monoxide (way more than AirTags), I doubt anyone would come to the reasonable conclusion that dihydrogen monoxide’s dangers outweigh the benefits :)

They need air tag pro that can be recharged with an apple watch puck. Easy upsale.
I'm mixed on this.

I love the concept. I really like that you can leave it in-place and charge via a power bank and wire.

I'm also not sure that coin batteries are reasonable as rechargeable.

I think it’s something like that. Not that what they’re coming out with will be “version 2” of AirTags, more like going in a different direction.

Does anyone ever get murdered with a knife? Or a gun?

Compared to AirTags? Hmmmm, I think it’s maybe a couple more with knives or guns. Possibly, don’t want to commit to that.

Ooooooh ahhhh, looking at the list of AirTags one, two were killed by cars, one was killed by a gun. So, again, while I don’t have empirical data, I think I’d LIKE to state that, in 100% of the cases, AirTags related deaths are likely never carried out with the AirTag (as they tend to be woefully inadequate in the realm of death dealing, though, perhaps, slightly higher on the list of death causing capability than… ohhhhh… watered down pudding)?

Assuming magsafe charging meant no size impact on the airtags it would mean that they had a defined lifetime. Once the batteries no longer recharge adequately they would have to be discarded. With replaceable batteries they are immortal, at least until there is an electronics failure.

I wish they would them with a hole to take a keyring like Tile does. Easier to fit to keys and more compact. Also flat on one side to take adhesive pad to stick on things.

If people start buying old iPhone and just using those to track people instead, do you want Apple sued and all iPhones banned too? And what about Tile, Chipolo, Smart Tags, and Androids soon to be released versions? Those same things could've just as easily happened with any other phones or trackers. Many more violent crimes happened using GPS trackers too. I think you would have an easier time just banning firearms as opposed to all wireless devices. At least then you would know you are saving lives.

Everyone always complains that their existing hardware goes slow when a new version comes out as evil Apple slows it down.... <satire>
That is going to be a problem — I just grabbed another 4-pack, that s—t better not go to s—t when new ones release!!)

How about a version called "Air Strip"? Thinner circuit, smaller battery. Great for attaching to and finding your Glasses, umbrellas, and various other items that require a lower profile tracker.

I have zero understanding of the tech but it would be nice if an AirTag could link into the new satellite SOS mode on iPhone 14. If an AirTag is put into lost mode it can send a signal to the satellite and the satellite can send to your phone to find it. That way you are not relying on other devices roaming around your lost device. I'm not saying a continued link. Just a one off ping to get a GPS location.

If Apple sticks with the CR2032 battery, can we at least get electrical contacts compatible with bitterant-coated batteries? I'm tired of washing Duracell CR2032s with alcohol. (That is, once I get them out of their human-proof packaging.)
This is the only feature I want!
