I want to see an M1 Pro or maybe M2 Pro powered Apple TV along with controller support for the gaming market. Seems like a no-brainer and would fit nicely with Apple Arcade.

There are a LOT of talented iOS game developers. I’d like to see what they come up with on a console.

Can it compete with apples picture quality tho?
If you mean the way Apple TV adjusts the picture quality on its own — I've never tried it. But you're still using the same TV, so unless you're talking about the easy screen-tuning, I'm not sure that matters so much.

They really need to return to that magical $99 price point. HomePod mini is a hit at $99. The Apple TV was $99 with the 2nd, and 3rd gen boxes. Lower the current 4K box to $149 and $179, and introduce a streaming only box or dongle for $99 or less
I have to agree. An AppleTV at $99 would make it a no brainer given the build quality and features. And given it uses an A-Series chip, they could also get it to run on USB and make it even easier to install/adopt.

The only improvement I can see for the Apple TV is to make it run on USB power. It is currently the best streaming device on the market and the one that seems to last the longest, especially in quasi-rural areas. I've had too many people I know have their Chromecast, Roku, and FireSticks get fried in power blips, but never an Apple TV.
Probably not an improved version. It's probably just a cheaper version to sell more of them.

It really wouldn't, Apple Arcade is included in my AppleOne subscription and it literally is a barren wasteland. There are no AAA games, and that is the only thing that would require an M1. Almost everything is an iOS port which means the A series is what the games are coded for.

The only way an M1 makes sense is they go all in with a dedicated gaming console + controller, with Apple TV functionality tacked on as a feature.

Apple's Home ecosystem desperately needs...
  • Cheap stick-based Apple TV
  • High-end Homepod replacement
How can I switch from Amazon to Apple's ecosystem with such massive holes in their product lineup?

Apple TV 4K is great for my home cinema.

But am I really meant to add a $200 4K box to a 21" LCD television in my kitchen?
And a HomePod with a Screen. I use one in my kitchen and have multiple timers going when cooking, I want to look at a screen to see the timers, not ask siri 8 questions on which timer has what left. I'd glady pay quite a bit for a hybrid iPad HomePod product that has a custom home screen with relevant info.

how? have mine for 5 years now and still going strong. ??‍♂️

I’ve had a surprisingly good experience with my fire stick 4K max

Cost me $25 and fixes my dd5.1 issues with some internal apps on my tv that were only outputting stereo for optical out

And 4K HDR/DV for Hulu. Internal tv app is 4K SDR only.

Also Got a ATV4k 2021 in my bedroom though paired with OG Homepod and it’s great.

I'm looking forward to seeing what new and interesting features it will have.

In the meantime I guess I need to post an obligatory crowd-pleasing give-it-to-Apple "So..." statement/question.

Here goes:

So, will Apple cut their astronomical and ridiculous margins and sell their new TV box at a far more reasonable price? And have it manufactured in the United States and not rely on slave labor on the other side of the world?

This is sorely needed. The current 4K is very good for personal use but it’s too pricey when it comes to gifting to friends and family.

I’m glad to see they’re learning from the HomePod Mini success.

I can oddly imagine for the new Apple TV model maybe the best S class series Chip from the Apple Watch and HomePod mini maybe working for the redesigned version but who knows

Lower cost Apple TV would be very welcome, I just hope they don't gimp it and not allow it to output audio to a homepod like the non 4K Apple TV.

@frostbit3

Dont worry, this is not going to happen under any circumstances. The reason why the Apple TV HD is not supported is because the ad-hoc network created between the Apple TV and the homepods when they are set in home theater mode (that allows for ultra low latency wireless audio, system wide audio support and multichannel audio), uses bluetooth and wifi at the same time and requires bluetooth 5.0. The Apple TV HD only has a bluetooth 4.2 chipset.

PS: The Apple TV HD works with the homepods without any problems using the regular Airplay link. The only limitations are that no sound is produced in real time apps like video games and live tv apps, and that only 2.0 stereo sound is supported (no 5.1, 7.1 and Atmos support, that the homepod mini doesnt support anyway, only the original homepod support this).
