I can live without the touchbar. But I love TOUCH ID for ease of unlocking the computer and inputting passwords. Any mention of it staying in the new gen MBP?
There’s lots of rumors of Face ID so I think that’s where it’s going to go. That doesn’t mean they couldn’t keep Touch ID though

Mini LED on these ones?

If they stay in the same size to smaller, I wonder what "most people won't need dongles" could even mean. A full sized USB A or HDMI port still seem out with the bottom chassis thickness at the tapered part not leaving enough material, unless the flatter top and bottom mean the edges are slightly thicker (tradeoff being the middle part is thinner). MicroSD or something they could easily throw in the existing size, but that wouldn't stop a huge number of people from needing dongles.

THIS!

You guys are delusional if you think Apple will bring back the original Magsafe. That would be a marketing disaster! They just introduced a new Magsafe concept aka "the puck". As much as I dislike it, it will not go away soon unfortunately.

What they'll do is add the possibility to charge by puck attached to the screen, as the power it can deliver is (almost) enough to drive the entire Macbook. On top of that you'll have your USB-C for charging "normally".
I doubt they'd want to leave ring marks on your display from it clipping on and fingerprints from trying to grab it off, if that's what you mean. Or do you mean bring back the plastic glowing logo and have it snap on there? Either way that seems awkward at best. It's on the wrong part of the computer for starters, making it more complex to implement. Gurman even specifies it is similar to earlier MacBook MagSafe designs.

Oh my god this sounds too good to be true 😍😍
Please also add Face ID, maybe the lid has enough space as it’s not rounded anymore 😍

I welcome everything except the no touch bar. For the limited amount of time I had with one I enjoyed it. In fact I hope it makes it onto the new redesign to see how many negative threads it generates.

Apple is working on two new MacBook Pro models that will feature significant design changes, well-respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a note to investors that was obtained by MacRumors.

According to Kuo, Apple is developing two models in 14 and 16-inch size options. The new MacBook Pro machines will feature a flat-edged design, which Kuo describes as "similar to the iPhone 12" with no curves like current models. It will be the most significant design update to the MacBook Pro in the last five years.

There will be no OLED Touch Bar included, with Apple instead returning to physical function keys. Kuo says the MagSafe charging connector design will be restored, though it's not quite clear what that means as Apple has transitioned to USB-C. The refreshed MacBook Pro models will have additional ports, and Kuo says that Most people may not need to purchase dongles to supplement the available ports on the new machines. Since 2016, Apple's MacBook Pro models have been limited to USB-C ports with no other ports available.

All of the new MacBook Pro models will feature Apple silicon chips, and there will be no Intel chip options included. The MacBook Pro models will use the same heat pipe design used by the current 16-inch MacBook Pro model, which Kuo says is much better than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air because it will allow for increased computing power.

Kuo says that we can expect to see the new MacBook Pro models released in the third quarter of 2021. Due to the revamped design and strong replacement demand, Kuo expects total MacBook shipments to grow significantly by 25 to 30 percent year over year to 20 million units.

Kuo also said that high-end iPhone models coming in 2022 are likely to adopt a vapor chamber thermal system, which Apple is "aggressively testing." The VC thermal system will be required for the high-end iPhones due to their stronger computing power and faster 5G connection speeds. There are already smartphones from companies like Samsung, Razer, and LG that use vapor chamber cooling technology, which is used to keep a device cooler when it is under heavy stress.

It is unclear if the vapor chamber thermal system will meet Apple's high requirements, according to Kuo, but he is optimistic about the reliability improvement schedule and expects at least high-end models to adopt it in the near future.

I hope it's white and plastic, too. 4GB RAM, spinning hard drive, runs Snow Leopard, that's gonna be great.

Cannot wait to get my hands on these in-store, and to see what the M1(+) and graphics specs are. Take mah moneh.

If this truly delivers with HDMI and a microSD slot then my trusty 2012 rMBP will finally get some rest.
C'mon Tim Apple!

No Touch Bar? Something I don't really believe. Does Apple consider this a failure or are they going to replace with something else other than a return to function keys?

Still won't run Windows 10... so no deal.

I'm a nerd I guess... I like touch bar but I don't think developers embraced it like Apple wanted. Add that when I'm at my desk, the MBP is docked so I don't see the Touch Bar anyway.

Certainly sounds like a great model to roll out — I'm keeping my hopes reserved for now.

Although I can't imagine the price tag they'll slap on it.

Going back to magsafe is great news. I think they missed the boat on making that an industry wide power connection for portable devices, especially notebooks. The USB-C port is not made to handle the abuse of a charging cable.

Having failed USB-C ports due to positional stress might be driving the rumor for more ports too. *shrug*

EDIT: The Touch Bar was a step too far for many people. I know of several people that have bought models without the bar just to avoid it. I thought the 'lower' models were the ones that didn't have the bar. That is remarkable, people buying lower model MBP's to avoid a 'revolutionary feature'. Sad, but...

Good bye Touch Bar!

YOU WON'T BE MISSED
I disliked the Touch Bar UNTIL I picked up a copy of BetterTouchTools. Since the Touch Bar came out they added the ability to redefine the “keys” on the Touch Bar even to the point of being application specific. You could reassign your most used functions to a touch position and completely change what a developer guessed you’d want on the Touch Bar. Made it a favorite instead of a hindrance

Very good news indeed. Looking to upgrade my Late 2013 Mac Book Pro and was not keen on the lack of ports, let alone the need for dongles to use my CD player, Thunderbolt monitor, SD cards, etc. There seemed to have been no rational reason to nix all those ports and very glad they're coming back, (though I guess we'll have to wait and see exactly >which< ports come back; I wouldn't be surprised if the new Macs have a MagSafe 3 connector....).

Hopefully this will also give Apple time to improve the performance of Rosetta 2.
